Inn At Union Square - San Francisco

The hotel is centrally located and is clean and comfortable. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Rooms are relatively small but comfortable with the exception of the showers which are really, really small. One weird thing about the hotel is the valet parking service - you have to park your car on the street, check in, and then call the valet service […] to come retrieve the car. This could be a major pain if there is no street parking and a lot of traffic, as there was when we arrived. Nice complimentary breakfast. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Location was fabulous! Just a few steps or blocks to many restaurants and shopping. Lovely continental breakfasts and wine at 5:30 P.M. Also looked forward to the chocolate cookies.

My husband and I stayed at the Inn at Union Square after reading the online reviews and because of the great location. We were delighted with the hotel. Great location very close to great shopping. The highlight had to be the fantastic very helpful staff. Anne, in particular was fantastic. She was there at check in and check out and every morning. She went the extra mile to provide us with information and make our stay in San Fran a very enjoyable one. She had great local knowledge and was friendly and helpful. Close to public transportation, restaurants, and shopping. For those attending a conference at the Mascone Center, it's about a 10-15 minute walk door to door. Staff was very friendly and accommodating and the complimentary breakfast, wine and cheese, and evening cookies were a delight. Being an older building, one can expect the lone elevator to be […] a bit slow but given that there are only 5 floors, it was easy enough to hoof it. The rooms are a bit small but perfect for a place to rest your head. Rooms are also equipped with a ceiling fan which was adequate for the moderate fall temperatures but take note if you require air conditioning... you won't find it here. Really enjoyed our stay here. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast, wine hour, cookies, plus tea and coffee were all very nice. Only wish there had been some shelves or storage for personnal items in the bathroom. close to transportation. very clean

Chocolate cookies and bottled water at 9pm, real run down service, nice wine and cheese with other snacks with Cokes and water at 5:30, shoe shine service.... all included, free! Many higher priced chains don't give that kind of extras. The rooms are small but the beds are great. Good people that seem to like thier job. A true find.

The hotel location was great and in the middle of everything. You can catch all modes of public transportation very close by. You are just a few blocks from China Town . You are located in an area with many hotels and tourists so drinks can be expensive but all you have to do is walk a few blocks in either direction and you are fine. If it is important to you to have a large lobby, wide corridors, a spacious breakfast room and a bar on the premises, this hotel is not for you. I selected The Inn at Union Square because of its location, reasonable rate, and good reviews on hotels.com and other websites. The staff was friendly, the room was comfortable, and the location was outstanding. We stayed at the Inn at Union Square because of the comments on Hotels.com. We found the location and the customer service to be incredible. Although it doesn't have a fitness center, the one nearby is on the next block, so that wasn't too inconvenient. The Continental breakfasts were good as was the Wine/Cheese in the evening. The room was a bit small, […] although I wasn't really surprised by that. My one complaint is that the chairs in the room were not really comfortable to stretch out and read or relax. They seemed more for decoration. No couches either. I wouldn't stay here with my kids for that reason. Mehr

We enjoyed our stay at the Inn, but I was expecting it to be a bit different. More than anything, it was probably about my expectations of San Fran rather than the hotel. We were "in the middle of everything" as the reviews said, but bc we live in a city & aren't big shoppers, the location close to shopping wasn't a draw for us. We were looking for […] good local food & locally brewed beers, wines, etc., which weren't immediately available (nor was the concierege helpful at all in this respect). We did a little work & found some great food within a few mile radius with some help from friends. The room, although well ventilated, was a bit warm (no air conditioning) & the bed was not as firm as we like. The room had everything we could have needed & all the things inside were well maintained. For us, however, we may look for a hotel that has a bit bigger rooms for future stays. This is just because we could have then used the room as a place to relax (although each floor has a space for that with table, chairs, & a fridge, which was nice). The staff was helpful with luggage, cabs, etc. & the happy hour dried apricots were TO DIE for!! Mehr

My husband and I usually stay at larger, well-known hotels for the convenience and amenities. However, we lucked out finding this place. It's a small hotel, almost hidden among the hustle and bustle of the city, but once inside, you begin to exhale and let go of your stress! The staff is A-1 first class. We loved the hotel. Great staff, very nice rooms, good breakfast. All in all a very good experience. You should definately try it.

Slow and noisey elevator but room looked and felt clean. I just slept there so didn't spend much time there. It can get a little warm in the room too. Well located in the heart of the city.

Multiple features made this an outstanding hotel that we would highly recommend to others. Evening wine, cheese, and fruit plus morning breakfast, both served in a quaint library setting, were a spontaneous gathering time for hotel guests. You had an opportunity to meet and talk with others that you would be difficult to replicate in a large hotel. […] The inn keeper met guests in the library at the time of the evening wine and cheese, a sign of the commitment this hotel has to its clientel. The breakfast choices were different from what you find at most chain hotels, and were ever so appreciated over the cookie cutter approach to morning meals. In particular, the granola was excellent and the pecan rolls and almond croissants melted in your mouth. There were chocolate chip cookies on each floor in the later evening, and the staff was responsive to every request. For example, we asked for fresh coffee at 10 p.m., and it was ready in the library within minutes. The rooms were modest in size and the shower was small but the room appointments were high quality and the bed was excellent. We slept so well both due to the matress and the quiet, restful atmosphere. The location was ideal, a few steps from Union Square and the cable cars, and a brief walk to China Town and the Powell Street BART station. If you are looking for a large hotel with big rooms and lavish baths, this is not the place. However, if you are looking for a uinque experience in a hotel where the guests are well cared for and the rooms are nicely decorated, this is the setting. We met several returning guests during our stay, and we can understand why they came back. Mehr

This is a great place to stay if you want to be close to all the action of downtown San Francisco. Staff is very friendly and knowledgable. Rooms are very nicely appointed, although a bit on the small size. While there wasn't much of a view from our window, it was totally quiet.

very convenient location, excellent accomodation and breakfast together with the wine and cheese "get together" each evening. Staff very helpful and knowledgeable. Very good value for money and would not hestitate to stay again. No view from room windows, but not an issue.

This is a jewel in the crown hotel with a great location right in the centre. It is nicely furnished, clean, tidy and comfortable. The service and custommer care is superb, with curtesy fruits, biscuits and with wine tasting on every other level in the evenings and with a simple but nice continental breakfast in the mornings. The Good: Very friendly staff. Bathroom very nice. Bed was sagging, but when asked they replaced the mattress with a smile. Good breakfasts. Needs Improvement: No A/C which probably isn't a problem most of the time in SF, but I like it quite cool. Iron could use replacement and ironing boards are low.

I stayed for only one night at this hotel which is conveniently situated on the edge of Union Square and thus in the heart of San Francisco's theatre district. As a single female traveller I am concerned about security and this appeared to be excellent. I had been upgraded to a suite which was equipped with every comfort. There is a good business […] centre and when I encountered a slight technical problem help was immediately available. Ann, the concierge could not have been more helpful with good suggestions on where to eat and excellent directions. My only slight reservations are that the decor is slightly faded while American guests might find the double bed (of which there was only one) on the small side. This hotel represents excellent value for money, particularly when one considers that a very good continental breakfast is included as well as wine and snacks in the evening. Mehr

In addition they were very quick to help out with finding & printing directions, meal reservations or anything else we could ask for. The standard of service deserves to be highly commended, from the complementary breakfast to the free cheese and wine in early evening. Stayed for 2 nights in June. Front desk was extremely helpful and kind. We had a suite at the front of the building which was very nice and comfortable. The hotel had a free wine tasting in the evening and a small breakfast each morning - both great opportunities to share stories and get information from fellow travelers. We like to stay in smaller hotels when we travel and avoid the crowds....the Inn at Union Square is just delightful...lovely little lobbies on each floor...and wonderful breakfasts and wine/hor dourves hour. Very European style....Also got wonderful restaurant recommendations from the innkeeper. Room was ample in space. Also very centrally located to […] major shopping and the Bart lines. Primero me llamo la atencion lo pequeña que era la recepcion ya que pensaba que todo sería incomodo, pero la verdad es que nuestro dormitorio era comodo, limpio y lo mas entretenido eran el desayuno y en la tarde cuando teniamos disponible vino y quesos, teniendo la oportunidad de comunicarnos con los otros huespedes en amenas conversaciones en un pequeño […] lugar habilitado para eso, es un Hotel que tiene vida.
