We stayed here on the 27th of April for 3 nights.We had a 1 bedroom deluxe suite in the east wing.Room was very clean, not much of a view out window , but otherwise all the amenities were great.Wife enjoyed short walk to shopping precint, Buffet breakfast was expensive, room service menu was limited( plenty of other places to eat !) The Stamford Plaza in Melbourne is a beautiful hotel with large rooms similar to a serviced apartment. There are 2 flat screen TVs, one in the bedroom and one in the loungeroom with some cable TV and pay per view movies. The loungeroom is very comfortable and suitable for entertaining a couple of guests. They have kitchen facilities so you can cook […] your own meals but you have to call housekeeping to get cooking equipment etc. There is a supermarket nearby. The hotel is in a great location right in the CBD with lots of cafes, shops, parks etc within an easy walk. There is also a tramstop outside the hotel in Collins Street. The downside is that the service is terrible. When we checked in they asked for newspaper preference but then we didn't receive a newspaper on any of the days we were there. We could not find the service directory in the room so were a bit confused about how things worked. Sometimes when calling the front desk there was no answer and when they did answer they had no caller ID so kept asking what room we were in. Express checkout is highly recommended as the queue to check out on the last morning was huge. Mehr

We felt welcome from the very first moment we arrived as our bags were whipped away and bought up to our 13th floor room, overlooking the city, yet hardly an outside sound is heard. The view to the Cathedral was lovely to see with the changing light of the day and night. We were able to walk to everything and felt quite safe in this area at any time […] of the day or night. Our room was comfortable, especially the bed and great pillows, welcome after busy days shopping and walking. Loved the pool and spa to soak in too. Staff were pleasant always and obliging. Not a single complaint. I will always try and book in at the Stamford whenever I come to Melbourne. Love the glass lifts. Mehr

I had the pleasure of staying at the Stamford Plaza this month while in Melbourne.I've stayed at some of the larger chains but found them a little needing in warmth and personality. The Stamford had all of these with friendly front desk staff and a great little bar to meet friends. The room was beautifully appointed,comfy bed and a very reasonable room […] service menu with cooking utensils available if needed. Check out at 11.00 gave me time to recover from jet lag ! Everything was fine and I would have recommended this Hotel apart from two things. 1. They put a hold of $200 on my credit card which I did not get back until two days after I checked out. This was not properly explained when I checked in and when I asked them about it theyclaimed it was the bank not them which was a lie. Also this is not told toyou […] upfront. 2. They have a option called a green service where you opt to not get your room made up provided you stay two or more nights. It says the money will be refunded off your bill. So naturally I though the money $10 a nday would be given to me when I checked out. I was told that it comes off your room service billi. So I had to grab a few items from the mini bar. Definetly not worth it and again not properly explained upfront. Apart from these twothings the room was fine a bit smaller than I expecte as was the pool. But the staff were nice and helped us out when I had issues. Also the Tvs are small as well. Watch out for the marble tile bathrooms they get really slipperly and the bath and shower were one of those combinaion things which was really small. Mehr

My friend and I stayed at the Stamford last weekend to celebrate our birthdays with some shopping and pampering in Melbourne. We were reasonably happy with the room which was large and well furnished, although the bathroom was ridiculously tiny and our window looked out to a cement wall so it was pretty dark in there. All that would have been ok but […] the service left me fuming. I had made dinner reservations at Movida, which is a restaurant that's pretty well known not only within Melbourne, but across Australia. I made the booking 3 months in advance to get in on a Friday night and we were really looking forward to our meal. I asked the Concierge at the Stamford for directions to the restaurant, and he'd never heard of it! So he looked it up on the web and told me an address. I asked him to check he'd given correct details, explaining that there are three spin-off restaurants with various iterations of the name Movida and I needed to ensure we could make our reservation on time. He didn't check and assured me he'd given me the correct details. Off we walked, for 15mins in our heels only to arrive at Movida Aqui, NOT Movida. Movida was a 15-20min walk back across town (literally back past the hotel again!) in our heels where we arrived late for our reservation and had less time to enjoy our meal before we needed to leave for the next sitting. Not happy! My friend and I spoke to the staff at the Stamford front desk and Concierge about this incident the next day, while they nodded and sympathised I didn't feel my complaint actually went anywhere to ensure that better information would be provided by Concierge in future. In fact, in all my dealings with staff at the front desk (many of whome seem pretty young and inexperienced) were pretty unimpressive. While they were nice enough,I'm not sure they have the authorisation or experience to manage certain transactions with clients. Very enjoyable stay. The staff were wonderful, friendly and professional. Centrally located only 10 minute walk to Burke Street Mall. The hotel is very clean, although the bathroom needed some maintenance e.g. regrouting and new taps. Gorgeous hotel, lovely suites. Bed was so comfortable. Fantastic location in the "Paris End of Town". 1 1/2 blocks to mall, close to cafes, theatres and high end fashion. Would definitely recommend this hotel and return.

The room had the smallest bathroom possible, a toilet and shower over bath. Towels were large but on the towel rail they dragged on the floor, on the towel rack they fell on the toilet. The washbasin was outside and had no storage, no drawers. The wardrobe was tiny. The lounge area was such a tight fit of desk, lounge and chair that it was impossible […] to sit at the desk without moving both chair and lounge. On check in nothing was explained other than how to access both towers. There was no information folder. The lighting system required a master light switch, and we later found information was accessed through the TV. The room was clean. Daily we used the environmentally friendly No Service Option that gave a $10 credit for each day the option was requested. On check out we were denied a credit as we'd paid for everything and hadn't used the bar fridge. Yet credit card details were taken as a security deposit. There was no comment form. The lifts don't require a keycard so anyone has access to any floor. On leaving we were waiting outside for our Skybus pickup when employee Peter took the initiative to check it was on its way. Thank you Peter, the most helpful person we met. The furnishings are tasteful and the bed comfortable but charging high prices for a small room with the tiniest bathroom and relying on a name and designer decor isn't enough to make us ever want to return. We are not difficult guests, we travel interstate and overseas and earlier this month gave a 10/10 review after our stay, it met all expectations and well deserved it. Mehr

This was the first time I stayed at The Stamford and I was well impressed with both the quality of the hotel and the service of the staff. They went above and beyond for our requests to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. The location is also very central. Melbourne is already quite walkable but being centrally located makes it easier to get everywhere […] by foot. We didn't even have to tram it to Carlton, it was only a 10 min walk! Mehr

Really enjoyed our weekend away here. The hotel was beautifully decorated, staff friendly and helpful. Our room was sufficient and the pillows were lovely. Would recommend this hotel.

We love the Stamford Hotel Melbourne. We used to stay here often but hadn't stayed for quite some time as it can be a bit pricey and there is always so many good value deals for other hotels on offer. However we found a reasonable offer on this site and decided to give it another try. We were not dissappointed, it really is such a lovely cosy and very […] homely hotel, so we felt like it was good to be back and enjoyed our stay. There was a bit of grime along the top of the bath next to where the shower screen sits, but it was unusual to find that at the Stamford, so I guess it was just an oversight and not really a big deal and everything else was very clean. I mentioned it in the hotels customer review form so that they were aware of it. I'm sure they would have been grateful to know and be able to follow that up with staff. The only complaint we had was that if you called housekeeping and asked for ice they said it would be a $5 charge. Well we have stayed at hotels all around the world and have never been charged for ice. I told them if they don't want to provide that service free of charge then they should provide ice machines on each floor. We would have helped ourselves to the ice if we could, but there was no ice machines or facilities to be able to do this. Housekeeping staff were polite but said it was the hotels policy that any thing brought to your room was classed as a service and therefore the $5 charge.!!! Let's hope they have changed that rule before our next stay. Mehr

This hoyel needs a serious refurbishment as I cannot recommend it to others as it was shabby [carpet dirty] and room although clean needed some tlc and air cond. on the blink, although management sent up a fruit basket to apologise I think the first night should have been refunded as it was impossible to sleep even though we asked for it to be fixed […] twice. The Hotel is very central within walking distance to trams, free tourist bus etc. Very central to main shopping area and restaurants. The biggest asset that the Hotel has is that of its staff. From the doorman to Managers all are very professional and pleasant. Would certainly recommend this Hotel to any would be tourist. Very pleasant stay.

Comfortable stay although rating 5 star is high after the ongoing refurbishment I would expect it to rate 5 star. Staff excellent and helpful. room was very good but TV's were hard to operate but two were provided other hotels I have been in provide free internet $12.95 per hour is high. good cafe around and good eating good stay and will use again

A good hotel is one where everything is perfect upon arrival. A great hotel is one that recognises there is the occasional glitch and remedies the situation immediately. For some reason the air conditioning was unable to switch off the cooling fan when I was in need of only heat for the room. I spoke to the concierge at around 8pm prior to leaving […] for a short meeting and when I returned the maintenance fellow was just packing up his tools after fixing the problem. I was warm as toast thereafter. In Five star hotels I expect great service with a smile and courtesy; but I wasn't expecting the chief maintenance engineer to be called in on a Friday night. I thought I may have to change rooms - which is always a bother regardless of how helpful the staff. So, a pleasant surprise. And, definitely return business! Thank You Stamford Melbourne. Mehr

Absolutely sparkling clean, but so new (or starched) they made whistling sounds every time you turned over !!! The noise was remarkable. But is seems niggardly to complain when the hotel itself was so central and quiet. Staff were helpful and cheerful. Great for a weekend away !!
