Chateau Dupre Hotel - New Orleans

Chateau Dupre was a little run down but good enough for a place to rest your head during Jazz Fest weekend. Exposed brick wall in our room was very cool! Front desk guy was super nice and helpful. NO coffee pots in the room but free coffee downstairs. The A/C didn't work in our room the first night but they switched us to another room right away. Nothing […] fancy here, just the basics. Bedding was nothing fancy but sheets were clean and cotton I think. Fun to be able to walk to hotel after a wild night in the French Quarter. Perfect restaurant next door for a great breakfast. They were very helpful in holding our bags in their back room until our evening flight too. Mehr

I would never stay here again, and I wouldn't recommend this dump to anyone except for relatives of the cockroach we saw. Lumpy beds, disgusting floors, smelly bathroom, no refrigerator or safe, etc. I guess you get what you pay for. Oh, wait. It costs a small fortune to stay there during Jazz Fest weekend.

The hotel is older, with few amenities. However, it's in a great location to wander the French Quarter. Great for the budget minded traveler!

Genertally clean but worn hard hotel. Poor or not at all internet in the rooms.Nice staff. Owner needs to invest in property. New carpets, TVs and better internet would be a start.

Was told they were out of the room I booked so they would UP grade us, well if that was the UP grade room I really would of hated the room I booked. The sheets were clean, great location for walking to just about any place. Floor was very dirty I really dont think it has seen a vac, I understand its a OLD hotel but when it RAINED outside it RAINED down […] the bathroom wall, and out in the hallway right outside our door. so make sure you dont get room 403. The location was perfect to visit the French Quarter Fetival.

This hotel is in terrible shape. Elevator broken, had to take stairs. Tiles in bathroom broken and soft to walk on, like the floor was not going to hold you. Curtains had large, dark stains...afraid of what might have been there. Housekeeping came in after the first night,left the beds unmade, took the trash from our cans and left it, in the bag, on […] the floor near the bed. Room safe, hotel wide, was "not working." We stay in New Orleans often and like to try different hotels. This one should be avoided. Mehr

Spend the extra money and don't stay here. We gave it our best shot but when the toilet overflowed that was the final straw. It was good for my high school daughter to see that everything in life is not 5 stars but I am too old and was too sober to enjoy this hotel.

Stay was sufficient. It was obviously an older-style hotel without as many amenities, but it was ultra-close to everywhere we wanted to go and affordable. Biggest complaint, which isn't so much the fault of the hotel, was the guy above us waking up and pacing his room at 7 a.m. every morning. And we could hear every footstep. I would only be able to recommend this hotel on the fact that its in the FQ and is within a few minutes walk from clubs, restuarants, shops, etc. There is no way that this hotel should be rated as a 3 star hotel...NO WAY! To start the hotel is very old, but that doesn't mean they can't update the inside. The elevator barely stays open long enough […] to get into it without severing a limb. The rooms are small (expected), the beds are hard, the pillows are worn and thin, and the comforter did not appear to be very clean. The carpet is old, worn and dirty. Being right by the House of Blues and other clubs its a fairly noisey location in the evening, but I was so tired I didn't hear any of it once I fell asleep. The room absolutely served its purpose which was to be within a 1/4 mile of everywhere I needed to be that day and the only thing I needed the room for was to hold my things, to sleep and to shower....which I will say the bathroom was fairly nice compared to the room. We didn't have enough towels and called the front desk. We were told that they were short handed so we'd have to come down ourselves and get the additional towels, but we needed to wait at least 30 minutes because they were in the dryer still. There is also no parking on site but was there was plenty of parking within quick wlking distance. So this was not a big deal for me. Despite its location, I can't say that I would stay at this hotel again. I could pay $10 more a night to stay somewhere that was nicer. Mehr

My friends and I went to New Orleans for our spring break and were looking for a relatively cheap place in/near the French Quarter, and this was perfect. The service wasn't fantastic, but it was also a person to person basis. The room was clean and kept up nice but you must realize that it IS the French Quarter and the buildings ARE old so if you're […] looking for the Ritz, don't stay here. The biggest complaint my friends and I had, other than the few crabby employees, was the shotty wifi. One minute it worked, the next it didn't. But maybe this had to do with our room being on the fourth floor? Either way, we loved our trip and Hotel Chateau Dupre really is a great price for an even better location. I liked the charm of the hotel, but however, I found that the noise level in the hall at night time, and with the Fire hall being just down the street, we heard sirens every night. I believe if they would have replaced the windows (they looked like they were original) it would have helped the noise. I did not like the fact that I didn't have any comfortable […] chairs, so to watch TV was uncomfortable. The elevator door needed manual help to be closed, and there was no emergency phone....that inself was scary....last day we stayed there it was finally put "out of order" and we had to walk down 4 flights of stairs which was not that great with luggage. First: The hotel charges extra when you arrive for telephone/internet service regardless of whether you use the services or not. This is in addition to what you pay before arrival on hotels.com. The elevator works sporadically. The Beds are very uncomfortable. The Sheets have holes in them. The carpet rivals that found in third world countries (literally). […] The rooms are dark and dreary (very little lighting in them. The walls and ceiling panels are falling apart. The hotel does not accommodate parking - so if you are in a car you will have to find your own, which becomes expensive very fast. The furniture is filthy (both in the rooms and in the lobby). The hotel is nothing more than 1 star, both in quality and in amenities. Do NOT stay here. Mehr

There were extra charges added onto our bill for equipment that we don;t even own . The windows had no blinds so the morning sun shone in brightly early in the AM. There was no vanity in the bathroon, so nowhere to place toiletries except on the windowsill. Also, alot of noise from a club down the street made it impossible to sleep.

Pretty well located, a bit down-at-the-heels, but the price was right. It has a very nice bar and restaurant. If you're looking for an economical place to stay and don't plan to be in room much, I'd recommend it.

Although the hotel staff was very helpful and personable, the hotel itself left much to be desired.

This hotel needs to be deleted from hotels.com's list. It is old and rundown. The first room we were assigned had no closet. The front desk person was surprised. ???????????? The room we stayed in was dirty. A couch I would not sit on or allow my husband to either. Thermostat hanging off wall. Hair dryer was broken. Toilet seat was broken. We were on […] the second floor, ice machine on third, and drink machine on first. Had to walk through sitting room to get to bathroom. Enamel peeling off bathtub. I could go on and on but it would take too long. Mehr

The location of the hotel was the best of my mini vacation.

For someone on a budget, this hotel is fine. It was clean, the water was hot, and the beds were made. It was a good location from the action of Bourbon Street and other high traffic areas. However, the only elevator didn't work, the wi-fi couldn't be picked up in our room, and there was some HUGE wooden thing that was supposed to be a decoration located […] in the middle of the room. It obstructed a large area next to the bed so to get around the bed, you actually had to climb over it!! There was no desk or other comparable area to work at, so this hotel wasn't very well suited for being in New Orleans for a work conference. So, my "delux king" room was not so delux after all. If you are a light sleeper, then this hotel ISN'T for you. Thin walls, and A LOT of noise from the clubs below will keep you awake. I will look for a different hotel next time. Mehr

Great location. Easy walk to Bourbon street. However, even though all taxes and fees were paid to hotels.com this hotel will charge you extra for "Communications" fees when you check in. The best way to describe this hotel is run down. I say this as someone who really likes older hotels. As an example the pillows were flat. Our stay here was excellent! The staff at Hotel Chateau Dupree were the friendliest and most accommodating while visiting NOLA for the third time. It's in a great location, all the cabs park in the back of hotel and honk horn all night long.

Only four floors, but all rooms are on 2nd through 4th floors. The one elevator had isues all three days. If you took the stairs they exited to the street not to the lobby. They have small skinny pillows, so we asked for another and they had no more. They do not have any spare pillows?

A little bit down at the heels and bohemian, but you cannot argue with the value or location. Just steps away from The House of Blues and everything else you could wish for in NOLA. Far enough away from Bourbon Street that you won't have to step over and around the unpleasantness of the previous night's festivities.

the parking is not secure and cost a fortune dont plan on using your car while you pay to have it parked, also the tub was broken in the room called for repairs they never came. No coffee pot ac not that great and i know when i checked out after finding out my car had been booted costing another 115 there were other people there withthe same issue. […] I say run to a hotel with parking i paid 150 total for just parking !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Parking stinks & costs a fortune. Hotel rates vary greatly from one day to next.

We received instant curb-side service upon arrival. The belhop was awesome. A little time waiting for the computer, kinda slow, was the only hangup. Surprisingly quiet considering we were right off of Canal St. House of Blues right down the block and directly across from the Insectarium, which is the former Customs House. Being that close to Canal meant […] 24 hour food availability (very convenient in New Orleans). An ATM for our bank is only 3-4 blocks away. Quick check-out and excellent belhop service, yet again. The hotel was clean and in a great location. A little run down, but that's to be expected for such an old building. Staff was very friendly. There was know parking but I knew that before checking in so I planned for it. I'd stay here again.

The hotel's lobby looked shabby. The ceiling was falling down in certain areas. I was nervous about what the room would look like. Surprisingly, the room was clean and beautiful. The hotel doesn't have any parking; that was a drawback. The surrounding pay to park area costed us $30. We could have upgraded our room for a $30 value at another hotel and […] had free parking. The high light of our stay was the check in. After that is was all down hill.The staff were extremely nice and helpful. The elevator had to be beat on to get the door to close in order to work. The room had very large stains in the floor and some type of sticky substance in areas The web site states the building was built in the 1800's and the beds […] had to have to have followed shortly there after. I have never sleep on anything that bad. The bathroom had a large window that had a clear sheer curtain that blocked absolutely nothing from anyone looking from the outside. Our room was on the corner of the building next to the intersection of two streets. The noise was unbelievable the entire night. If the bed had been in the middle of the street in couldn't have been any louder. Large trucks and banging sounds went on all night. The next morning we found out why. There is a waste recycling facility next door. The waste trucks unloading material went on all night. I would not recommend booking anybody at this place if my business name was associated with it. THE LOCATION OF THE HOTEL WAS GREAT. THE ONLY PROBLEM IS PARKING. THE HOTEL DOESN'T PROVIDE ANY PARKING. YOU HAVE TO FIND YOUR OWN PARKING.

I will never stay there again

My room was a dump. I realize it's New Orleans, but they didn't both the vacuum. It looked like torn tissue or notebook paper edges all over the floor. It was loud. Close the House of Blues, yes, but that wasn't acutally the issue. It was breaking glass, alley cats, and other noises that were just, well, loud. The pillows were gross. And old. I mean, […] 1/2 and inch thick. I realize people don't go to NOLA for the hotels. They go for drunken debauchery. Unfortunately, I was for a conference and didn't have the luxury of crashing after a hard night of partying. So, no, I wouldn't stay here again. Mehr

The hotel had a bed and breakfast/ taste of the French Quarter feel to it. Had excellent customer service. The location was with in walking distance to everything you want to see or get to in New Orleans. The price was reasonable. Loved it and can't wait to go back.

I stayed here a couple of years ago and found it good enough for the price. My most recent visit was far more substandard. The room had mysterious stains all over the place - on the drapes, on the walls, on the ceiling, on the doors. Certainly wasn't paint - dare I ask? Did not get the sense that the room was thoroughly cleaned prior to my arrival. Drape […] runners didn't work. Stains on towels and sheets. Including cigarette burn in one of the sheets. Holes / rips in bedding. Shower head leaked into bathroom proper. And the kicker, we found a cockroach strolling along one morning. Thoroughly disappointed. The Chateau Dupre went from "just about OK" to "never again" within two years. The price is decent, here you really get what you pay for. Mehr

Location and staff was fine. The room felt and looked dirty. We had a cockroach in our room and we found one in the hallway. I will not stay here again or recommend. You get what you pay for.

Desk staff was quite friendly but was afraid to walk on the carpet it was so dirty. Beds very uncomfortable and had to wear earplugs at night it was so noisy. Garbage trucks in the middle of the night created noise that lasted all night. Not sure but maybe there is a central drop off there or something. Lighting in room was very dark. Two towels per […] guest were issued. I had reserved two rooms, one for my husband and myself and one for my daughter, her husband and 2 year old child. Our granddaughter was in our room quite a bit and we asked for more towels. I was told that only one towel per guest was issued unless I wanted to pay the extra guest fee of $15. The alarm clock was 6 hours off and was not able to be reset. I called the desk clerk and they said they would come and fix it but when they arrived 8 hours later they said it could not be reset. I asked for another clock and was told to use my cell phone. There was a lady that came on duty as a desk clerk that eventually brought us more towels and a clock. She was very nice and apologetic but overall it was a pretty bad experience. Mehr

For the money I paid it definately was not worth it. The room had old inadequate furnishings, the bathroom was terrible. Old analog tv with vcr and snowy picture. I won't stay there again.

location is great, however, it is very noisy with trucks picking up trash in early morning hours and other noises on the street. The hotel is old and could use some updating, but our stay was very comfortable. Staff was great!

Let's keep this simple: 1. My garage would make a better lobby. 2. No parking!!! But, we did find public parking a mere three blocks away. 3. We waited 10 minutes for the elevator--the only stair access is for exiting only in case of an emergency. 4. The walls and drapes in our room were stained. 5. The drapes did not match and were practically see-through. 6. […] The constant horn-honking by the valets in the adjacent garage woke us up at 5:00 am each morning. 7. The mattress should have been replaced 20 years ago. 8. There was no maid service on the weekend. 9. It took a half dozen attempts to open the door each time we entered the room. Enough said? Mehr

AC did not work. In fact the whole dial unit was removed from the wall. Artwork was missing from wall so there was just a nail. The drapes did not close properly so the sun was shining through when I desperately wanted to sleep as long as possible. Lastly, I did see a bug too. Overall I guess you get what you pay for. But, I would like to be compensated […] for the no AC. It was not a good nights rest at all. I asked for an additional night in a different room. Left my number for the GM. They never called. So much for guest recovery. Hence, I decided to share my experience so others can choose to spend their hard earned money well. Mehr
