"Convenient, very clean, quiet and comfortable"
Hotel Carlton is located right on the Grand Canal with vaporetto station out the front door and the train station right across. There is a bridge with many steps when you are carrying your luggage...but it doesn't get better than this! Definitely not a 4 stars hotel by American standard. It’s about 30 min walk from the hotel to the main attractions […] of Venice, if you prefer to be closer to St Marco it a matter of choice, you will lose the proximity to mainland transport and will have to take the vaporetto and/or drag your luggage through the canals and alleys. The rooms are good size, a little bit dark, very clean, quiet, and comfortable. The lobby is very fancy with free WiFi, an added value. Staffs are really nice and helpful. The breakfast was typical, as were all hotel breakfasts on our Italy trip... lots of pastries, cereal, and water down scrambled eggs, cold meats, juice and coffee. I wouldn't pay more. Venice is small and everything is at a walking distance. If you choice convenient than this is this hotel is for you. If you want to save money and convenience is not your top priority, there are lower and better hotels on the mainland a bus ride from Venice. Most hotels on the Grand Canal have highly price tag, not value for money. I would highly advice you to make your reservation in advance. Mehr
"nice location but no View."
good location, but no view from the windows... good services...
"Easy to get to from the Train station"
Very easy to get to from the train station that is opposite. Unfortunately this means the views over the canal are not the greatest. Room was comfortable although room 206 has a transparent door to the bathroom that sits opposite the bed. If you need the loo at night the light from the bathroom shines through and will wake your partner up. Breakfast […] was filling and well managed. Restaurants, Gelatos, tourist shops and the ferry stops are very close by. Mehr
"Easy to find...Only 1 bridge to cross from train"
The staff is nice and helpful. The room was clean.
"Hotel Carlton on Grand Canal"
Was really dissapointed with the Carlton which was not "grand" in any sense. Reception staff were snobby, our room was tiny (especially for the price you pay) and bed and pillows were hard. I would definitely say it is NOT a 4 star hotel, more like 3 stars. Our room was really hot and the air conditioning didn't work. When we raised this with reception, […] we were told that there was an "energy saving scheme" in place in venice where no heating/air conditioning would be turned on during the off-peak months. No apologies, just fact. Overall I would not recommend for anyone to stay here. There are plenty of hotels in Venice which are much nicer, newer and cosier with air-con! Honestly, I've never been in a 4 star hotel which did not have air-con. What a joke. Mehr
"great hotel"
great hotel within 5mins of bus terminal, ideal for cruise port as well as tram is really close. lobby of hotel very contemporary, yet rooms are typically venetian. get the bus from marco polo airport for 9euros to bus terminal
"Honeymoon success! Upgraded for free!"
We had a fantastic experience at this hotel for 1 night! Walk out of the train station, up and over a giant foot bridge, turn right and your there! We got a great off season rate and when we mentioned it was our honeymoon they upgraded us to a room overlooking the canal! So great! Don't get be wrong- this hotel would not be a 4 star in the states but […] that we were prepared for. The room was tiny and so was the bathroom bur it was nice and clean and the free Internet in the lobby with a great breakfast made it all worth it! We know where we are staying when we return to Venice- Grand Canal!! Mehr
"Hotel Carlton - Excellent choice"
Hotel Carlton is situated close to the "city entrance" and is a perfect choice if coming with a car to Venice. Just a few minutes walk from the parking places (yes, no parking by the hotel unless you have a boat) and situated just by the Grand Canal. We enjoyed the stay very much and it was easy to walk around to the famous places from the hotel. Hotel […] was clean and the rooms were nice. Mehr
The Hotel on the Grand Canal is in a perfect location. It is close to the train station and is in walking distance to all the major sites.
"Close to train station"
The hotel is across the bridge from the train station-very convenient. The neighbourhood is safe. Convenient place to take the water bus to St Mark's Square and other places like Murano. The complimentary breakfast was good. Love my room with a balcony overlooking the canal. A bit pricey but worth it.
"Excellent location !! Friendly staff"
Our experience was excellent. The room was alright . It s easy to visit many places because its very close to the Vaporetto .
"Close to the train station"
The hotel was very mediocre.. the rooms had a strange smell, but overall it was ok. Stay here if you want to be close the train station.

"Hotel Carlton Venice"
Even though this hotel was on the Grand Canal, our room was in a little courtyard without a view of any kind. The location is across from Piazzale Roma which we thought would be good for taking the bus from Marco Polo airport and getting to our cruise ship. From Piazzale Roma there are bridges to cross and with luggage it's not easy. We were lucky that […] someone appeared to help us. He wanted €20, but settled for €10. Our ship was docked on the Guidecca and not where we thought it would be, but we were able to take the vaporetto there (again with instantly appearing help for our luggage over the bridge). Our favorite hotel on the Guidecca (La Calcine) was fully booked, and this was a poor substitute. Mehr
"HARD BED"
EXCEPT FOR THE BED BEING AS HARD AS A ROCK EVERYTHIG ABOUT THIS HOTEL WAS GREAT! A VERY NICE STAFF!
The hotel is located on the Grand Canal directly across from the train station. If you need to get in and out of Venice conveniently, as we did for a 24-hour stay, the location is ideal. If you want a quieter neighborhood, the Carlton's location will be too noisy and bustling for you. The hotel itself is old -- as is everything in Venice -- but it is […] clean. Mehr
"Easily accessible in Venice"
The Hotel Carlton in Venice has great service and although being old, its immaculately maintained. Its right opposite the train station and 5 minutes walk from the bus station.
"Comfort in Venice"
Those of you who have been to Venice before, know that some of the hotels are less than comfortable. This hotel is extremely comfortable, great rooms (I.ve stayed in 3 now) good bar service as well as good buffet breakfast. Its very nice sitting outside with a beer ot coffee watching the grand canal go past you! When you see the price, I remember why […] I am there and how can you put a price on that! Mehr
"Hotel Carlton on the Grand Canal, Venice"
Spent two nights here in early September 2011. Excellent location away from the busy St Mark's square region, etc. Opposite the main railway station and close to the main port, yet on the Grand Canal and close to the narrow streets and canals of mainstream Venice. Very good service, breakfast and room (admittedly we did have a lovely room with balcony, […] as reserved). Price was not too steep for the type of room and time of year, plus location. Highly recommended. Liz and John, Melbourne, Australia Mehr
"Service of Reception Personnel"
Our initial encounter with your reception is very discouraging. They appear to be snooty, impersonal and not compassionate to travellers who are weary. We arrived just before 11 am, and was told check in time was 2pm. We accepted that although other hotels were not a stickler of check in time. They can be flexible or at least friendlier. Enquiring about […] tours and places of interest and other information was not very helpful. A lovely hotel like yours should be manned by lovely, warm personnel. Also, perhaps you can consider providing tea making facility in the room. Mehr
"very tired and depressing atmosphere"
The only positive is that this hotel is very well located to the train station and the front staff speak good English. The rooms are very dark and dreary. Beds not comfortable. The rooms and public places are very, very well worn and create a dumpy impression. Breakfast is well presented but of modest quality. I would not recommend nor return unless […] there was a complete restoration including new beds. Mehr
"Good hotel"
We stayed two nights and enjoyed the location- the only downside was rooms very small and cramped- next time would not pay the premium for a canal room as we sat out front most of the time- breakfast good and staff very friendly
"Beautiful hotel"
All was great but toilet was a let down

"Hotel Carlton on the Grand Canal - Venice"
The Hotel is very well located in Venice, immediately opposite the train station and on the grand canal. There are quite a number of good restaurants in the neighbourhood. The hotel staff were courteous upon arrival and the accomodation was clean and hospitable. The rooms were somewhat small but what do you expect of venice given the ancient structures? The […] breakfast was quite filling and had a wide variety. We travelled with our two children and could not initially get adjoining rooms but were immediately relocated as soon as they became available. i would most certainly recommend this hotel to other visitors to Venice. Mehr
"Bad service and attitude"
Hotel staff was completely UNhelpful and had a very bad attitude. I paid for an upgraded double and wound up in the back of the hotel facing a brick wall rather than the canal. Desk staff fixed water taxi rates with the taxi operators and overcharged. Would not recommend staying at this hotel.
"Perfect for cruisers"
Excellent location for cruisers. Great convenience having breakfast included and you get the whole Venetian experience, with the property being on the Grand Canal. Reception staff could definitely be friendlier. They did not seem happy to assist.
"Just 4-star hotel but doesnt like expected"
I was stay at one night with a very small trible room less than 20 m2. The staff's attitude is positive but smile is missing possiblily, we are not dressing smart enough !! Breakfast location is too small and no window !! The food is just like 3-star hotel. Overall is just a 4-star hotel but not worth it !!
"Hotel Carlton on Grand Canal - VENICE"
We have stayed in Venice previously , in a hotel close by to the Carlton on GC , the bedroom and bathroom were tiny which made the stay uncomfortable. The Carlton on GC provided a larger bedroom and bathroom and a more pleasant environment which made life more relaxing. We were traveling through Europe by rail ,the hotel is across from the rail station […] , which made it easier to access, a very short walk and just one bridge to cross over the canal. We did not mind walking to St Marks Square , the Rialto Bridge and the other sites during our stay. There are also numerous restaurants ,eateries , shops in this end of Venice. Mehr
"The Grand Carlton on the Grand Canal"
The hotels website, and the website on hotels.comand tripadvisor.com really convince you that the hotel is in tip top shape. We understand that many hotels in Venice are old. This one is old. Location in this situation would give this hotel a high rating. If your are looking for a clean and modern hotel, this is not it. We have stayed at others for […] the same price and are extremely better. Check out the UNA Hotel, much better for the same price. Mehr
"Great hotel on the canal &convenient to bus/rail"
The hotel was beautiful, staff was friendly, and building is maintained very well. We had a ton of luggage (stayed an extra night after a cruise), so it was nice to not have to go too far from the bus depot to reach the hotel --those bridges will give you a workout! Please note: The description for the hotel notes an airport transfer. These are NOT […] included, so would recommend adding an airport transfer option when/if you purchase a water bus pass. Mehr
"Close to train station/ cruise terminal etc."
Rooms in Venice are small but that's part of the charm. The lobby was nice, the staff went out of their way to be helpful. I found the room itself to be a little grungy with hallways in need of renovation. On the other hand - the location was perfect - near the piazza de roma and the train station. The people mover is also very close by and useful if […] you are coming into the cruise port. San Marco is a hike, but a pleasant one, and there are always the water buses to help get around. There's a nice grocery not to far from the hotel which is good for grab and go food and wine. Mehr
"Excellent Location"
IT is great as it is just opposite the train station, and specially in Venice, you'd need to walk with your luggage. Highly recommended.
"Carlton Grand Canal, Venice, Italy"
Great location for the hotel on the Grand Canal - close to Piazalle Roma & Santa Lucia train station. Good rooms & adequate breakfast included. Very friendly service personnel.

Lovely hotel, no complaints. Close to train station and water bus. If arriving by train very very easy to find. Had a room overlooking Grand Canal, make sure you close shutters at night otherwise noisy can hear boats all night.
Hotel was clean. Breakfast was ok, most of the usual items, just ok service. Good location, right across the canal from the train station.
"Ok but not 4-stars"
An OK hotel but not deserving 4-stars rating. Max 3-stars in my view. Booked a superior room but, I believe, I was given depressing standard room. Not happy! This room needs refurb. Good location. Nice lobby and dining area. Good breakfast. Reception staffs attitude indifferent to customers and did not seem to care.
"Perfect location, especially if arriving by train"
Everything about this hotel was satifying - service was great, breakfast was great, room was a little small but comfortable. Location was IDEAL!! Some books say not to stay by train station, but I can't imagine any better location. Venice is small and easy to get around, so why not drop your bags off as close as possible. You just need to take your […] luggage over the foot bridge (but this is about 1000x times easier that taking it on and off the boats to get further down the canal). Mehr
"Venice was beautiful"
I would recommend this hotel and the surroundings.
"Hotel Carlton on the Grand Canal - Venice"
Beautiful hotel overlooking the amazing Grand Canal of Venice. Great location - only a few meters from Piazza Roma. Breakfast was included in the rate and it was a perfect way to begin our day in Venice.
"Picutres doe's not speak for the quality"
It was a very bad experiance for us, we did not like it and did then leave.
"The Hotel Carlton on the Grand Canal - Hotel????"
I will not recommend this Hotel to anybody who knows what quality is, a 4 to 5***** Hotel should be a high level Hotel, with a excellent breakfast room, with friendly hauskeeping and receptionist and much more. We arived extremly late, beacuase our plane had some delay, and guess what? our room, was not more available, they give it to another guest. […] We could not understand what was happening, and the man behind the desk did not answere our questions, je just gave us the passports back and sayed that the room is not available anymore. Untill i had to discuss in Italian and try to explain to him, that i have payed for that room! I'm not answering to have a reservation or so. After more than 30 minutes, after a horrfull ride on the airplane, we just want to go to have some sleep. after 45 minutes we got a room, but the room was stinky, small and the bath was not done, it was very ugly. We called the reception, and the finnaly got us a better room at approximatelly 3 AM in the morning. I do not recoment this Hotel to anyone who is searching for relax and quality. The Breakfast room looks like a aquarium for humenbeen, everyone is steering at you! and it looks just very horible! the Products are old and the coffe is just bader than bad!... Hope you find a other hotel, because hotels.com has a lot of good ones. Mehr
"NO PARKING....unlike it says on the website"
We chose this hotel specifically b/c the website said they had parking. After 30 minutes of driving in circles and 2 calls to the hotel we find out they did not. Great location on the grand canal, but that was the only highlight of the small hotel. Breakfast was okay.
"Overpriced"
I think the rating and the price of the room exceeded the true quality of the hotel. The location was fine, we were close to all the major transpotation in and out of Venice. The front desk was some what helpful with information. The room cleaniness was a problem. Althouhg the bed was done, the glasses were not cleaned. When I called to have ice sent […] to the room there was a charge for it. Seemed petty considering is a four star hotel. Mehr
