Das Channings liegt ca 10 bis 15 Minuten fußmarsch von der Stadt entfernt. Für denjenigen den es nicht stört ein bischen zu laufen also kein Problem. Die Zimmer waren sauber und Ordentlich aber klein. Das positive, es gab einen Whirlpool im Bad. Das negative, das Bett war so hart und unkomfortabel das ich die ganze Woche sehr schlecht geschlafen habe. […] Deutsches Fernsehn gibt es nicht. Und durch das alter des Hauses hat man knarrende Dielen. Das Personal war sehr freundlich. Das Kontinentale Frühstück ist jedoch sehr dürftig. Aber es gibt die Möglichkeit Schottisches Frühstück zu buchen. Alles in Allem war es für ein paar Nächte vollkommen in Ordnung. Das Haus hat Charme. Aufgrund der schlechten Betten wäre es jedoch ein Grund für mich es nicht mehr zu buchen. Wer damit keine Probleme hat ist in diesem süßen kleinen Hotel bestimmt gut aufgehoben. Mehr

Das Hotel liegt in einer sehr ruhigen Straße in der New Town nur wenige Gehminuten von Stockbridge und Princes Street entfernt. Frühstück sehr gut, Bar und Restaurant sehr gemütlich und mit gutem Service.

Sehr nettes Personal, ruhig gelegen, gute Busverbindungen ins Zentrum, zu Fuß 10 Minuten, sehr gutes Frühstück.

Rarely do I write a review, but in this case Channings Hotel has earned my highest of complements. Easy to get to from a nearby bus stop and nestled in a quite neighborhood, the exquisitely maintained hotel with library, reading and meeting rooms for quests is staffed by the most professional and kind hotel workers I have met. The Channings Hotel is a very charming place and I had a lovely stay. While I do feel it was updated because it is an older place just be prepared for what goes along with that. The floors were creaky and my room was rather small (although the bathroom was large-loved that!) and I could hear into surrounding rooms but that comes along with an older […] building. Not much you can do about that, but if that bothers you then not the place for you. I thought it was a lovely place and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. It was a short walk or a quick taxi into the center of Ediburgh. Mehr

The staff were brilliant at this hotel. The gentleman who showed me to my room explained a little about the area and was very helpful. The room was very nicely decorated and comfortable. I intend to stay at this hotel again in future.

The channings has the perfect balance between a quality hotel with high standards, and a welcoming,friendly base for city breaks. The staff went out of their way to provide the best customer care we have experianced at any other hotel.

My boyfriend and I chose The Channings as our hotel during a small getaway in Edinburgh. We found many aspects of the hotel to be more than satisfactory; it was about a ten minute walk away from Princes Street, the surrounding area was quiet and peaceful, and the staff were all very helpful, particularly when my boyfriend elected to have a lie in during […] breakfast and the staff kindly let me take breakfast up for him (it should be pointed out that they stepped over themselves to take it up for him, but I opted to take it up myself!). The only flaw in our stay was that we had a standard room. To be fair, there wasn't an opportunity to book a superior, as they were sold out, however, we did not anticipate that our bed would be made up of two single beds, and two single duvets, put together. We didn't complain about this at the time, mostly due to our knowledge that the hotel was all but booked up, but we did feel that if you've booked a double room, which we had, there should be a double bed in it, and this did lend an air of "let's push our beds together", which we didn't really enjoy! At the very least, it would have been nice to have a double or king sized duvet. We also felt that the decor of the room was slightly dated, but it was perfectly clean, so this wasn't really an issue, more of an observation, particularly when one holds the room up to the photos on the hotel's website. I'd simply suggest that, if staying there, you opt for a superior room, with an actual double bed. Apart from that, expect to have a very pleasant stay, with wonderful staff. Mehr

We had a great experience at the Channings hotel. It was warm, cosy and charming, The lounge was especially great, and we found it very romantic to sit there in front of the fireplace drinking prosecco and playing chess. For those who wish a typical, Scottish hotel, this hotel is absolutely to recommend. We enjoyed it very much.

A lovely hotel just a 15 minute walk from the centre of Edinburgh. Good service and good food. Hotel room very comfortable and tastefully decorated. Very polite and helpful, lovely bedroom and sitting areas, good range of food for breakfast.

We stayed at the Channings Hotel for three nights for the last part of our honeymoon and had a wonderful time. The Staff were outstanding and went out of their way to please you with your preferences. The hotel is in an ideal location, a short walk from the city centre but in a quiet locations. I am not often moved to write a review but within 30minutes of arriving I was already imagining what I would write. As soon as we walked through the entrance we were welcomed by the nicest and (certainly in our experience) best concierge, Scott. Our room was ready early (the trains ran well, who'd have thought?!!) so we were quickly checked in and […] then Scott showed us to our room, went and got our luggage then spent a considerable amount of time answering our varying questions about what to do, where to do it and when. We went to many of the places he recommended and they all lived up to his enthusiastic descriptions. The room itself was very pleasant, comfortably decorated, heavy curtains blocking out light and all very clean. The TV was a teeny bit frustrating due to the clunky receiver box that is used to stream the room media but that was a good thing as it stopped us from slipping too much into our "bum on sofa" ways! The room service was excellent (dutifully delivered by Scott!) and well priced. The restaurant offered a very nicely laid out cold buffet breakfast options though a cooked breakfast cost extra I think. Still, we were trying to be healthy so again, not a problem. We had our new year meal in the restaurant before heading out and the atmosphere was very pleasant and the food good. For us though it is the staff there that guarantee we will only look to Channings next time we are up in Scotland. We truly felt so truly valued and they were all so polite and helpful. Nothing was a bother and it really felt like a home from home, only better! Having had such a fabulous time we plan to head back up in the summer. My first choice in Edinburgh. It's far enough away from the City Centre to be quietly situated in a nice suburb but near enough to be easily accessible on several bus routes. Don't bring a car if you are planning to spend all your time in Edinburgh - the on street parking restrictions at the hotel are an irritation and parking in the City Centre is […] a no-no. Some of the bedrooms are on the small side but you can upgrade. Standards are high and you quickly feel at home. The lounges are particularly welcomimg places to sit and read or chat. The restaurant and room service are expensive, but the all day bar menu is good value and attractive. Be aware that bar and restaurant are in the basement. Otherwise, walk to Stockbridge (10 minutes) for a good choice of restaurants. Mehr

Excellent boutique style hotel. Reception staff (I think a Portuguese chap and a Scottish lad with beard :-) ), sorry guys we should have got your names were extremely helpful in suggestions for eating /drinking venues. Really helpful and approachable which always adds to a good hotel experience. Nice bar downstairs and far enough away from City Centre […] to avoid late night noise ( £5 in a taxi ) but easily reachable. Beautiful part of the city with old style housing. Second time back and looking forward to a return visit again. Would definitely recommend to anyone wishing to visit. Mehr

In our bedroom (35) the wifi only worked near the door and the TV remote system did not work at all. The receptionist did not seem to care and did not really offer any apology other than to say that it could not be fixed at the weekend. The hotel was lovely. Breakfast Excellent. Our room was comfortable although the bathroom was cold. and the sink water was just a drip. no water flow.Overall very nice and clean. Myself and my sister stayed at Channings for a long weekend to do some Christmas shopping in Edinburgh. We loved the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. On arrival we walked in from the snow to a roaring fire surrounded by comfy couches which made us feel at home straight away. The location is great - just 10minutes walk from princes street […] but far enough to feel like you're out of the hustle and bustle. We have frequently stayed in Edinburgh at this time if year but never have we been as happy with our choice of hotel :). Mehr

Situated some way from city centre so quiet (which we liked) but not convenient for shopping, Parking a nuisance (car had to be moved every 4 hours during the day. Upscale and delightful place to stay. Friendly and helpful staff. The only downside is the parking regulations in Edinburgh, which are not the fault of the hotel, of course. My suggestion is not to drive here; parking is expensive and you have to "feed the meter" every 4 hours.

I spent 7 days at Channings Hotel in Edinburgh and can highly recommend it..the location is convenient, in a beautiful neighbourhood, easily walkable to Stockbridge, as well as to Princes Street. Booked for 3 nights and was so impressed we extended our stay and stayed for 6. Truly for us a home away from home. The fire flickering in the foyer area matched the warm welcome by staff who made the time to ensure our stay was more than simply comfortable. the hotel itself is in easy reach to all edinburgh, the staff where very friendly, the hotel was clean and the food very good, however, our room, i'm assuming it was the cheapest at ( see website for prices) for 1 night, was nothing special at all, very disappointing. i dont go out much, so maybe i'm expecting too much for my money!! but i wouldn't […] book it again based on price. if you're aren't bothered about the price though, its very good, maybe the more expensive rooms are fantastic, i'll never know. sorry. Great hospitality will come back

Nice boutique hotel just 12 minutes from the West End of Princess Street. Located in a good neighborhood. Room was comfortable and clean. Hotel front desk and dining areas were all courteous and helpful. My friend (an American in Scotland for the first time) said that the Angus burger she had was the best she'd ever tasted and I could live on their […] well prepared fish pie! Got a great deal on this Michelin rated 4 star hotel. Not near the Royal Mile or Princes St but plenty of places to eat and drink within walking distance and the closest Airlink to/from the airport is about 15-20 mins walk. Breakfast was included but they were running about 20 minutes late and the scrambled eggs seemed powdered and the meal service […] wasn't as prompt as I would have expected for this type of hotel. This is a gorgeous boutique hotel, with fabulous staff, amazing super king beds with feather pillows. The breakfast was beautifully served and presented, and the evening meals were outstanding value for top quality food. Lots of quirky features, and interesting nooks and crannies. Well positioned for a stroll into town. Very enjoyable stay.

great hospitality, great food and central, yet quiet, location

The staff of this hotel manages to take care of everything you could need without being overly intrusive, the rooms were clean and nicely furnished, and the breakfast was high quality and nicely varied (although I found out what Black Pudding is, and to my dismay it's not a dessert). It's in a beautiful old building that retains old world charm without […] feeling musty or run-down. Wifi is free, which is nice since other friends staying elsewhere were paying upwards of r€30/day for it. There's a nice bar and cozy lounge area, and while the immediate neighborhood is very quiet and residential, a ten minute walk brings you to Stockbridge with cafes and shops and the like. The only downside of my stay was a squeaky door hinge in the hall that kept waking me up (I was in room 22), but I mentioned this to the staff and they said they woudl deal with it promptly. Overall it was a really great stay and I woudl definitely go back or recommend it to others. Mehr

We took a chance and we loved this small hotel on a quiet street but in walking distance of many restaurants. My favorite - the huge spa like bathroom and the tub that fit my 6'6" husband.

This hotel is a short walk from the main shopping area and near to the quaint Stockbridge and Dean Village (both must sees). The hotel is a well kept Georgian town house- the staff can't do enough for you and we were upgraded to a nicer room - even though the first room was lovely, our second room had the added benefit of a lounge area as our TV didn't […] work which was no trouble for the staff. The hotel itself was easy to find and about 15 mins from haymarket station. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was excellent with a wide choice of cereal and fruit juices, etc. Cooked breakfast was very nice and hot (not the usual buffet style, but brought to table by staff). HOTEL VERY NICE. The only downside was Edinburgh itself - taxi drivers […] pick and choose their runs so beware if trying to use black cabs for return to hotel from city centre - we found them very unhelpful! Mehr

I stayed at the Channings recently. The hotel room is very comfortable and the staff very courteous. We had a slight issue with our TV (which is analog cable, though they said, they are upgrading soon), which was rectified immediately. The Concierge is very knowledgeable and provided us with honest suggestions on the tours. The restaurant has a good […] variety of food and the food quality is high. The only not so positive aspect is that the hotel is a 20 min walk from the main street but taxis are available immediately upon request. And if you like a bit of a quite, it is perfect!! Mehr

We have a very nice overnight stay in the Channings. The hotel is far enough from the city centre to be peaceful but has great transport links. Although I am not a fan of public transport the bus service was very efficient and the all day fare was a real bargain. The Concierge deserves special praise as his welcome was so warm that he made us feel at […] home straight away. The room was well equipped and very clean and spacious. Some of the hallways could do with a lick of paint, but that is just me being picky. Breakfast was a bit of a disappointment; the room was lovely but avoid the scrambled egg as even when I requested it to be soft it resembled an Ice Hockey puck. Breakfast staff were not very attentive and disappeared at the end of service even though 2 tables were still occupied. One final picky point, the website states that the toiletries in the rooms were Molton Brown, sadly they were not. This said, overall I would recommend a trip to the Channings. Mehr
