It was okay as a room to stay overnight.

I have stayed at many Howard Johnson hotels previously and had great experiences. This one, however, was quite different. The staff was friendly, but the "non-smoking room" was saturated with the stench of stale cigarettes and the bedding covered in burns. Noisy, Dirty, No staff at counter when checked out, Tub drain didn't work, had to stand ankle deep in water.

Horrible, disgusting dump!!! Service sucked, employees were rude and very unprofessional in both manner and appearance. Just take my word and skip this dump pay the extra money and get a room thats been updated this century!!

Walked it the room and noticed the plaster on the ceiling was falling off. The hallways smell like cigarettes and fried chicken. There was a LOUD party next across the hall that didn't end till 3 in the morning and the people upstairs must have been doing jumping jacks all night cause the stomping never quit. The place is old and dilapidated and needs […] remodeled BAD!!!! THE ONLY THING THAT WAS NICE WAS THE SHOWER. Pretty sure that the place is where the party people go to get drunk and tear stuff up. If that's what you are looking for then this is it. If you are looking for a place to sleep and feel comfortable then DO NOT patron this place. Mehr

It was like staying in your Grandma's basement -- where all the old linens and junk furniture go! Lots of construction people seem to stay there. They may look a bit 'rough' but their work makes them call it a night early! Nice and quiet. OK for a night -- . Great shower pressure.

The wall units (heater and/or ac) need cleaning. Just blows putrid air back in the room. Perhaps an air filter could be cleaned or replaced? Other than that, the hotel was just as expected. Not fancy. It was clean, although carpets in room were very dirty.

Best to stay one night and make sure to buy extra pillow because those old pillows are full smell smoking and very flat.

we were fortunate to get a room only 20 miles from our destination ( we booked late anyway) and were pleasantly surprised to be able to change rooms to get 2 double beds instead of 1. all in all, we were very satisfied with our stay.

The room was very small. Great location. Breakfast was very poor and ran out of food.

Cheap, relatively clean. Understaffed and stocked.

This is a small hotel and it's budget - you get what you pay for, but my room was comfy and clean. Good location - if you don't mind budget travel it's a nice spot.

Yes there were guys hanging out smoking at all the doors but they were very nice and polite. The girls outside were a little noisier. At 2:00am a girl kept knocking my door and trying to put her key in until I woke up and shouted somethin then she left. I wanted something close to the airport and went cheap but I would not stay here again and I'm not […] hard to please. I did not get a lot of sleep and that was the whole reason for the stay. Mehr

I reserved a handicap accessible room and the hotel did not accommodate my request. Highly dissatisfied!

The room size was adequate. The beds were very uncomfortable The toilet and shower room were incredibly small. Overall I was displeased with the stay and would not stay there again.

I would absolutely reccomend this to all my friends, it was a nice hotel, and the staff were friendly.

Although this hotel was located near many restautants and close to highway, it was not a very comforting night's sleep. The mattress was not comfortable at all. There were stains on the comforter. When we called the front desk to get more toliet paper we were told that we could come down and get it. There was also alot of yelling and noise from either […] inside or outside. Mehr

i have stayed there befor and swore i would never go back but i needed a low cost hotel last weekend tand this was the only one avaible, and much to my surpise it was clean and quite and much better i will return now on a regualar as long as the quitly stays where it was on my last visit.

Cops came pounding after 10pm that their k9 smelled illegal drugs in our room. aftr a thorough search' nothing was found n we were told it must of been a previous guest!!!

the hotle was dirty ipes squeeky was so thin i could hear the other person sneeze and fush the tolet not a good night sleep at all pillows were old and cforter had cig burns in a non smoking room over all it wasnt a good experence location good and staff freindly though.

Well, besides people hanging out in the parking lot making me not feel very safe to be there, I requested a downstairs room because I am disabled and was told ok, but sure enough, not available upon arrival. No elevator. Then, no towels where replaced after specifically leaving the dirty ones on the floors in order to get them replaced. No replenishment […] of shampoo or soap. No continental buffet left at 8am, just crumbs and 1 dried hard boiled egg. Very disappointing, but not suprised. Howard Johnsons are typically poor quality motels, but I had no choice do to a convention in town. Mehr

the hotel staff were great and very helpful. we had to check out early due to an emergency and Monica really helped us!!! I would recommend the hotel and staff to all!!!!

they are building a new one so it could be much better then when we stayed

Hotel was not well maintained. We arrived to find out that the phone lines were not working, no way to contact the hotel to inform them of my late check in.

It was a little awkward when we got to our room because the previous guest had not actually checked out. The desk clerk handled it as best she could and ended up giving us two separate rooms (3 adults traveling together, had requested room with 2 beds), and charged us for only the room we had booked. Overall, it wasn't a bad stay just awkward at the […] beginning. Mistakes happen but my daughter said she would never stay there again while for the price, I would give them another chance. Mehr

The place is freshly painted, carpeted and generally renewed. Good breakfast is included. There is a fitness center and a conference room. Not only is there an internet terminal, there is free wifi in the facility. I would suggest it to anyone who is looking for lodging in the Cedar Rapids area!

There isn't much to report here - for the price, amazing. Nothing stands out too much. Breakfast is sparse and the room is shady.

The hotels was okay if you if price is your only priority. We might try somewhere else before returning here.

we just used the hotel to sleep at and it served that purpose without breaking the bank.

Hallway smelled like wet dog,but room was ok. Comforter had a stain on it but sheets were clean.

Bedspread and blanket had stains of some kind. Bathroom floor was not cleaned behind the door and had debris on floor.

Our non-smoking room stunk of smoke. The room itself was fairly clean but the hallways throughout the motel were filthy and also smelly. There is kind of a rough trucker crowd that hangs out there. The bed was not comfortable.

I was not impressed with this room or this hotel. When I booked my room I did not realize I was given a smoking room. There was a law passed a few years ago in Iowa that banned smoking in public places. Since then, I have not seen a hotel in Iowa with smoking rooms. I asked if it was possible to switch my room to a non-smoking room, but nothing else […] was available. Then, the front desk clerk informed me that the "public rents a private room" at the Howard Johnson so they could have smoking rooms if they wanted. The room was gross. It had red shag like carpet and you could see all sorts of lint and other things on the floor. There were even cigarette ashes in one of the corners of the room on the floor. It was apparent the room had not been vacummed. There were cigarete burns all over the comforter and mattress and there was even a hole cut into the mattress over one of the springs. I checked the bed on 3 different occasions for bed bugs. In the morning, after I showered, I had to wear shoes around the room because I did not feel comfortable walking on the floor barefoot. I was in Cedar Rapids for a weekend event and it was very difficult to find a hotel room anywhere in the city. If I had not arrived at the hotel so late in the evening, I would have looked for other accommodations. I do not recommend this hotel. Mehr

Service was prompt upon our arrival and the desk clerk was very professional and friendly. We immediately thought our stay was welcomed! Staff efficient and accomodating.

The staff was very nice but the hotel itself was kind of gross. The sheets were stained. The room was freezing (the heat wasn't on in the room and it took a couple of hrs to heat up) and it was def smaller than the pictures on the website showed. It was def a hotel where I felt the need to sleep in all my clothes and where socks or shoes around the […] room. On the plus side the bed was VERY comfortable. If it hadn't paid in advance and if I'd gotten there before midnight then I probably would have found somewhere else to stay. Mehr

Phone did not work, paper thin walls, woke up to a pounding on the wall, it was a headboard banging non stop for over an hour. The room was not clean, chips and crap around the bed. Avoid !!!!!
