Hotel is older, but clean & near all the downtown restaurants. Walk to & crawl home from the brews cruise easily!

If you want a simple hotel room that is in downtown and doesn't cost you a lot then just book this now. They even provide free (simple) breakfast. It is what it says it is. A room downtown for the night. It is comfy and clean. Parking is tight but readily available. Feels like an old hotel but you're paying a motel price. Just book it. You won't regret […] it. Mehr

the only complaint was the noise from some of the guests, even until 3:30 am. staff recognized this and was monetarily compensated. even so i would stay there again.

I was very worried about this hotel because I normally dont stay at hotels with doors on the outside. I felt very safe in this hotel, and it was clean and comfortable. This hotel has some crazy rule that if your license says that you live near Asheville (~60 miles) they won't rent to you. I think it's because of the....people.....that hang out near the hotspot....they also have a "no locals in the rooms" policy (put two and two together and you can see where I'm going here) - Not a bad stay and a great deal, but beware […] of their weird rules! It's a litte dated and could use a major remodeling. It was clean and the perfect location within walking distance to everything downtown.

this is an outdated hotel, peeling paint, bathtub cracked, smells old/mildewy. However, the location and the price are the great. The mattress in the room did seem recent and it was clean.

For the price I paid to stay downtown, it was awesome. The hotel is old but is fairly well maintained. The staff was very, very friendly. The front desk clerk Bennett was very friendly and helpful in finding places of interest for me in downtown Asheville. I would recommend this hotel to anyone on a budget.

This room had everything we needed. A good room close to downtown and a descent bed to rest our heads. It was pretty comparable to other hotels. Enjoyed our stay!

This hotel was in a great location for walking around Downtown Asheville. However, they overcharged me and have not been easy to work with about getting it changed. Parking lot is a very tight fit!

The online photos do not do this hotel justice. The balconies are rusting away. The parking lot was cramped and we had to use a lot across the street. A sign in the parking lot of the hotel stated who to call if your car is towed. A sign in the lobby said that they do not allow the locals to stay there and we had to show a photo ID to check in. That […] is scarey!! There was also a sign that saud that the heat would be turned on in the room within 15 minutes of check-in. Staff courteous, continental breakfast sufficient. The hotel in process of remodeling, however good for short stays.

My boyfreind and I wanted to tour all of the great beer breweries that are in Asheville but didn't want to worry about driving or a getting a cab- safety first! This hotel was so convenienent for that purpose. Because there is VERY limited parking in Asheville. I really enjoyed this hotel, mostly because of the location and price. Its true that it's a little run down and isn't super fancy, but the room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. As soon as we checked in and went to our room we received a call from the front desk, asking if everything was OK with the room. And it was. I was impressed with their […] system of cleaning accountability that involved a card with the person's name who cleaned the room, and then another card with the name of the person who inspected the room after it was cleaned. It seems like they really go out of their way to make sure that the guest has a good experience despite the run down feel of the place. I would certainly stay here again, without question. Location is a very short walk from downtown. The only con was the tight parking situation, although it was comforting to see how many other people were staying at the hotel based on the amount of cars in the lot. I had seen this hotel on previous trips to Asheville and had been leery of staying there. No more! The convenience of the location and the bargain prices are making this my go-to place to stay while visiting Asheville!

The line was very long to check-in and the staff was very rude and not helpful at all! We were charged more than we agreed to pay months in advance through hotels.com and they would not adjust the bill to the accurate amount! They charged 10.00 extra per person staying in the room and wanted a photo copy of every person staying in the room to check […] ID's after 10:00 pm (which they didn't even check when we came in after 10:00)! The room was by the pool and in terrible condition! The only good thing is that the hotel is located in walking distance to everything downtown Asheville! When we asked the staff anything about good eateries or general information about Asheville, they were very impolite and said that everything in Asheville was good! We were not thanked for our stay and when we left we said goodbye and thank-you to the staff and his response was "YEP"!! Hire a new staff and stick to the charges that we agreed upon before our arrival!!!! Stay somewhere else!!! Oh, and there is hardly any parking to be had! Mehr

First impressions were not good when we had to park a block away with a new car. We asked for a NON smoking room. We walked into a nasty situation, I would never put my wife in that mess. We did not stay.

Lobby is old and outdated, but rooms are nice and friendly staff. Great location in downtown, can walk to everything, fridge and microwave in room.

This hotel looks a little shady at first with its stairwells being gated and other security precautions. The owners have you sign some sort of disclosure stating that you will not bring any unregistered guest nor local resident into the room claiming they will be charged with trespassing and you removed from the hotel. Which is total b/s since you've […] paid for a 2 person stay and the residence of the 2nd guest really isnt any of their business. Anyways... I still would highly recommend this hotel for its location, price, and cleanliness. For the time I spent in town and not in the hotel, it is well worth the stay for its price and convenience. Mehr

Had a great stay. 5 minute walk from everything in Downtown Asheville. Parking lot is fairly secure, although a bit cramped. Room was much nicer than I expected. Would definitely stay here again rather than paying much much more for the name-brand hotels close by.

This Hotel is an absolute bargain! It is walking distance to all points of downtown Asheville and parking is adequate...I would highly recommend it if one is on a budget but wants close proximity to the town. I would choose this hotel again!

This was my 5th or 6th stay at the Downtown Motel. Nothing elaborate, or pretentious. Perfect location so convenient to restaurants and art galleries. The only good thing about this hotel is it's location and the staff is pleasant. The rooms are dated and don't even include an iron. The blanket was so awful to the touch it ended up on the floor. Overall, the hotel isn't that bad, but when considering that I paid to stay there, I would rather stay someplace much nicer (for a few extra dollars). The hotel itself is remarkably run-down. The multiple layers of paint and the overall dark, dingy, depressing decor are a real turn-off. The stairwells were dark and the elevator was a death trap. The price is reasonable and the location is perfect. Ultimately, though, I would choose a different hotel on another visit, even if it cost more, in order to stay someplace with more attractive or appealing features. What would you expect to get from a hotel that is half to a third of the price of the other hotels in the surrounding area? It's a little run down and dreary looking, but for a price that's comparable to the hostel down the street you get a clean room with a private bath, free parking, and a location that is right in the heart of Asheville. My wife and I spent our anniversary here and it was just what we were looking for - an inexpensive hotel that was still maintained. It was very noisy Friday nite. Someone threw-up on our car - totally covering it from about 3 floors up. The hotel did wash it. However it was very convenient and subsequent nites were quiet.

Clean, affordable accomodations in downtown Asheville within walking distance to all downtown shops and restaurants.

I have stayed at this hotel twice now and I love the location. The hotel is a bit worn down, but it is clean. You can walk to everything in Downtown Asheville from here - and they have free parking to boot. They are very busy, since it's the only hotel in that area that doesn't cost a ton. Not great. Not horrible. Parking lot was very cramped and difficult to maneuver, but they do have parking available in a lot across the street. There was only one elevator in service for the entire building. It appeared that there was another, but it wasn't operational at that time. The hotel seems old, and worn. If you're looking for top-notch accomodations, this is not the place. For us, senior citizens, parking was a real problem. We have a long car and they have their parking so it is really hard to back out or pull into a parking spot. At night we had to drive a block down the street where they had parking available for guests next to the bus station and that is not the greatest location to be driving at night.
