"OK to stay"
This hotel is quite close to the Giza pyramids and a good base for seeing them. The rest of neighborhood is pretty much a nightmare or at least a bad dream. But only about average for Cairo. I visited the other Sofitel in town and it is wonderful and special. This one is just rough. Food is poor to bad. Staff is good to excellent. Room is ok. Internet […] is spotty. Guests are not my peer group. In Cairo your hotel must be an oasis. This is not - too much of Cairo on the inside of the hotel. MehrAuthentische Hotels.com-Gästebewertung

"Well appointed"
Hotels throughout Egypt have been severely underbooked since the Revolution, so they're making up the difference by a combination of cutting back on renovations, lowering rates, and reducing or charging more for certain services. Here, the room wasn't properly cleaned when we got there, but they very apologetically cleaned it when I brought it to their […] attention. Despite being in need of some renovaiton, the room was cleaner and more well appointed than most hotels we stayed at in Egypt. The bed was very comfortable, and there were nice touches like complementary toiletries and fruit. The gardens are still well maintained and afford a good view of the pyramids. The wireless is okay but only works in the lobby. Breakfast was good, with lots of variety. For the price we paid, it wasn't bad -- and we could walk to the pyramids from there. "Exactly what we needed."
We chose to stay in Giza to avoid the protests in Cairo, but it turned out to be much better than we imagined. All of the ancient monuments are near Giza; it's only a five minute drive to the Great Pyramids. The out door areas were about 20 feet below ground level which blocked out the street view and muffled the noise. . I found the bed a bit lumpy […] and the shower door leaked terribly - in fact the construction of the room was not high-quality and some of the seams just didn't match up. It was very clean though, with great housekeepers. Laundry prices were extremely reasonable. The dinner buffet was over priced for what was available but the free breakfast was adequate. Lots of public space/couches indoors with free wifi in the lobby. Staff were friendly and helpful. The highlight for us was Cobra Taxi who have a station in the lobby. We went out with a driver almost every day and it was the best thing we could have done. The prices were super low. We went out with 3 drivers and they all showed us something different; local cafes, restaurants, great stores;the real Giza. We were escorted through Khan el Khalili market and Tahrir Square (protest day) and felt very comfortable and safe. We can't thank them enough for making our trip wonderful. Hotel was good, service was great, would stay again. MehrAuthentische Hotels.com-Gästebewertung
"Pleasant and Affordable in Giza"
The Mercure Cairo Le Sphinx is situated in Giza, which is easily accessible from Cairo and its airport. The views of the pyramids from some of the rooms and the rooftop are amazing. I agree with some other reviews that certain areas are in need of attention - carpet in rooms, paint, rooftop stairs that are actually quite dangerous due to torn and loose […] outdoor carpet and a toaster that warms bread , but does not actually cook it. Apart from these rather minor issues, the hotel is very spacious, with lovely grounds and a beautiful pool area. The staff are courteous and helpful. We booked reliable airport transfers to and from the airport. Overall, the Mercure Cairo Le Sphinx is a most convenient, pleasant and affordable choice in a part of the world that holds so many of the great ancient treasures. "Hit and miss aspects"
Solid hotel, nice location, but some aspects of the hotel were ridiculous. For example, they charge 250EGP for a taxi to the airport, if you walk outside the door the taxis are 100EGP and just as nice. I certainly don't appreciate being nickeled and dimed at a nice hotel.Authentische Hotels.com-Gästebewertung
"good stopover, great for Cairo, but bit worn"
Arrived here for 2 night stopover in Cairo. For a 5* was a little disappointed although it was still good and in context a good place to stay. Good food, good pool for a city, great staff and quiet with the garden food. But a little worn down in place-bathroom door didn't open and main door didn't fill the gap in the frame! But good staff to sort- just […] needs a bit of toying up, free wifi v helpful and taxis arranged v well. Good location for pyramids and great advice. Decent breakfast even at 4am! "Worse Hotel Service Ever"
If i want to Talk about this hotel i have nothing good to say I will list what i experienced. When we first checked in we got a room at the End of the hotel where although i have requested a near room to the lobby because i was with my mother and she cant walk much, Fairly to accept that the hotel is fully booked but the room smelled very bad ! We have […] requested a change from next day they didn't answer our call until i have contacted the hotel manager for 3 times. Room service was very slow a single small request such as bed sheet takes forever ( hours of waiting ). we had a bag that needs to be transferred to our room it took 2 days to arrive to the room. restaurant food was very bad also room service food was cold and not eatable. i have raised the issues to the manager he smiled and did what requested but until what the end of our stay i'm sorry but its my last time going to this Motel not even a hotel . Hotel was clean and comfortable. Also located in a nice area near the pyramids. Area offers a selection of resorts with alternative restaurants. Conceirge is not the best. But all in all, not a bad place to stay for the location and rate.Authentische Expedia-Gästebewertung

"the truth"
My wife and i visited Cairo for a long weekend and wanted to stay in a 5 star hotel. I have to say we were both disapointed when we arrived to find the hotel in dire need of a refit, the food was nothing to write home about either. The hotel is advertised as a 5 star and to be honest i have stayed in many 3 stars that are better.Authentische Expedia-Gästebewertung

"Close to Pyramids"
I enjoyed my stay but would have prefered a newer room - seemed to need new carpet and refridgerator didn't keep things cool. I didn't feel as pampered as I would have liked. The bed was very comfortable. I did enjoy the food and drinks and the lobby areas were very nice. The towels weren't thick and there wasn't a bathtub which I enjoy when traveling. […] I did like that it was close to the pyramids and that it was a Mercure but I thought it was going to be fanicier in my room. It is about a 3 star hotel which is fine just not what I had been expecting. I would recommend this hotel but would be honest about the details to those I speak to so they know what to expect. MehrAuthentische Expedia-Gästebewertung
Was a bit dated, and in our room the toilet basically wasn't capable of flushing anything, and the air conditioning couldn't keep the room cool during a winter afternoon. Also thought the taxis were a bit expensive, and was disappointed in staff kmowledge if bus schedules in Egypt. Staff was friendly and things were clean, but when I think of "5 stars" […] this isn't what I pictured. MehrAuthentische Hotels.com-Gästebewertung
"Hotel Mercure le Sphinx, Giza -- very nice!"
My wife and I recently stayed at the hotel during our first trip to Egypt and were very impressed. The rooms were comfortable and clean, the service was excellent, the food was good, and location very nice (located near the pyramids, a great view of which can be seen from the hotel pool deck). Overall, I have no complaints at all and would highly recommend […] the hotel to fellow travelers! The only thing that annoyed me was the heavy-set gentleman from the jewelry store in the lobby who was very annoying and followed us through the hallways and to our room insisting that we return to his store immediately. I had purchased items there the night before, and fully intended to return the following day to buy several more items and souveneirs. My wife was ill that day though, so I told him we'd stop in the store the following day instead. Obviously that was not good enough for him, as he insisted we come IMMEDIATELY that minute, at which time I was so annoyed that I made the decision not to buy anything from his store ever again. I would gladly have bought several items the next day, but not after his behavior that night, so maybe he should learn that it's not good business to aggravate people so much, so his loss, I guess. But his behavior should not be a reflection on the hotel at all, since he was not a hotel employee. The hotel employees were all extremely polite and friendly. The service was excellent, and the hotel itself was beautiful, in a great location. If/when we return to Egypt in the future we will definitely stay again at the Hotel Mercure le Sphinx. I was very happy with it and I thank the staff for what was a wonderful vacation. Thank you! MehrAuthentische Hotels.com-Gästebewertung
"An "oasis" in Cairo"
A good hotel. Rather noisy because of the Cairo traffic so get a garden view NOT towards the street. Friendly staff. Quite an oasis from the noise of "chaotic" Cairo. Buying water there is expensive though.. Heated pool in February, not bad. The breakfast is great and plenty of it. A good experience for us both.Authentische Expedia-Gästebewertung

Room was comfy and was in a quite place. Buffet breakfast was very good. Two real issues were: surroundings were terible because of all polution from traffic. "Dont make the same mistake I made."
I would think twice about booking this 5 STAR HOTEL. It operates more like a 3 STAR. Breakfast Buffet - Very boring, crepes and awful, Cook for the omelets is late daily. Juice doesnt taste fresh. No fresh fruits except the soaked, chopped up ones in the bowl. Rooms - very dark, lighting is bad. We got a garden view...we had views to weeds to say […] the least - THATS NOT WHAT A GARDEN VIEW IS...Rooms were dirty. Carpet is very dirty. Concierge - They will take you places but you better believe THEY DEMAND A TIP..and if you dont tip well..u better believe they will let you know. LOBBY - full of smoke. There are smokers all over the place because its ok to smoke inside in cairo. So if you not a smoker...BEWARE! MehrAuthentische Expedia-Gästebewertung
"Good for Pyramids - Far from down town"
Close to the pyramids for easy access and nice to wake up to looking at a view of two of them from the balcony window. It was a shame the roof top resturant was closed as it was out of season (in November it was 22degrees and would have been perfect for an Englishman to sit outside in and look out to the pyramids in the distance). Good bar, resturant, […] beer + swimming pool. Nnice selection for breakfast and if it's included within the room rate you've nothing to complain about! Hotel provides a great/safe taxi service which you can book in advance to collect you from the airport as well as use to safely travel around Cairo. The distance from the airport was about 50mins by the taxi and from the hotel to downtown Cairo (Tahrir square) was about 25mins (traffic depending). In a taxi the surrounding neighbourhood to the hotel looked like it may not have been that safe to walk around at night however the hotel didn't advise against it. Well worth the rates being quoted compared to other hotels in the area! MehrAuthentische Expedia-Gästebewertung

Giza definitely is not a clean city, can not find restaurants out of hotel. To visitar pramides is like to back 5000 years ago. "Great pool, good breakfast, good internet, walking distance of pyramids if you dare to cross the road"
We had 2 adjoined rooms (door between the rooms could open), which was nice for the kids. Beds were great. Internet works great, although only free in the (very large) reception area. Cool that you can see the pyramids from the backyard. You can walk there, but it requires crossing a busy road that egyptians cross with their eyes closed, but for others […] it requires a leap of faith. Pool is good, has a 3m deep part, beds, towels, umbrella's. Breakfast is good, both warm and cold selections. Reception staff very friendly and helpfull, except bellman tried to sell us "guided tour" when we arrived at 3am at night which was a bit out of place. MehrAuthentische Expedia-Gästebewertung

"good view of the pyramids"
the hotel has a good view of the pyramids but the pool looks much smaller than in the photos. also the pool inside is for decoration only and is not a swim up bar. The food is over priced by a large margin and will cost more than your hotel room for two people to dine in. It is by a highway so bring ear plugs as you will hear honking all night long […] . "Very nice for the price"
The hotel was overall great we payed only a three star rate and breakfast was included which worked out so well. My only caution is that as some people may know that a five star rating in places like this are really equivalent to a three star standard in the US, and this was the case at Le murcure. The hotel was dated but very very pleasant. The grounds […] were very very well kept and the breakfast was great. There isn't much to do imediatley adjacent to the hotel other than the pyramids, which is a great view, and easy to get to. Howeve, if you are staying more than a few days you may want to look into staying a few days here and a few closer to one of the downtown areas. I recomend this hotel if you dont mind a few brass fixtures and if the price is right for your budget then go for it!!! MehrAuthentische Expedia-Gästebewertung
