Das Gästehaus liegt am Rand von Edinborgh. Die Stadtmitte ist in ca 10-15 min mit dem Bus und ca 30-40 min zu Fuß zu erreichen. Die Preislage ist für die gebotene Ausstattung ein wenig überhöht, aber bei den hohen Hotelpreisen noch vertretbar. Über die 4 Sterne Bewertung kann man diskutieren, je nachdem welche Erwartungshaltung man gegenüber einem 4Sterne Zimmer hat. Jeden Morgen gibt es englisch breakfast von 8 bis 9 Uhr. The hotel was pleasant enough. the room was quite basic. The difference in price from there, and a well known national hotelchain, in price was times 3. Sadley, I didn't think the room was 3 times of an improvement! For a one night stay I will choose the well known hotel chain in future. The service was good. The Ben Dorqn was very comfortable and set in a pleasant location. Didn't take too long to stroll into Ediniburgh! Food was good and the owners were welcoming and friendly. Would definitely recommend.

I stayed two nights at the Ben Doran and would certainly go again. It is on a main road about a twenty minute walk into the center of Edinburgh, but there are buses running every few minutes, sometimes two or three a minute. It is a Georgian style house so the room was small and the winding staircase had twenty steps to each floor, yet the furnishings, […] carpets and wallpaper were all elegant. A table on each floor had coffee, tea and hot chocolate available all day and night. The highlight was breakfast: a terrific buffet of thick sausage links, ham slices, scrambled eggs, black pudding (which is not American style pudding), yogurt, four kinds of cold cereal, croissants, toast, marmalade, all served in a lovely dining room. The TV had forty stations. The drive way had room for three or perhaps four cars. Although my room faced the busy street I could not here the traffic and could barely here any other guests. The website said "shared bathroom" which was available on each floor, but my room had a private toilet and stand up shower as well. I simply can't think of anything bad to say about the Ben Doran, although a first time visitor who takes the airport bus to Waverly Station might want to take a taxi, because the road is above the train station and the city has hills and several winding streets. Had a very enjoyable stay at the Ben Doran B+B. The room was very comfortable and the breakfast was tasty. The owners were curtious and helped with all questions.

The staff were very friendly and breakfast was great, but I would not class this as a four star B&b. Room was a little tired looking, bathroom fixtures were needing replaced.

It's a nice B & B not a hotel so the 4 star rating could be misleading.Convenient for city centre. 15 - 20 minute walk or frequent buses outside hotel. Free carparking. No drink making facilities in room, provided on the landings which is not convenient in mornings. Surprise with the Mistress of the house being American. Great benefit the bus stop is out front. O blowdryer, the only inconvenience.

brilliant hotel,warm clean friendly helpful excellant service allround,very quiet hotel,lovely breakfast,and we were left alone to enjoy our stay although they were always around when needed,beautiful room,will recomend and return.

I stayed there for three nights and it wasn't the worst place I've ever stayed in. It was on the small side and the rooms were very cramped due to the lack of size. The walls were a bit too small as I was awoken at 2am for two of the nights by fellow guests, hearing things I would rather not have had. Pro's - The location is great for buses. Room was spacious, with large window that could open - good job as it was roasting that week! The en suite was nice and clean, and a good size. The direction of the shower means that the floor ends up soaking wet, even with extreme care not to splash (we placed a handtowel on the floor to soak it up, in addition to the bath mat) The plug sockets in the room are decidedly dodgy. sometimes worked, sometimes didnt. a bit lose and temperamental. The staff (1 female) didnt speak good engish. Unable to make any reservations by phone as only the manager does these. basically - if you want a nice, clean place with great bus options and local shops and restaurants, you cant go far wrong with this one :) would return again, armed with tips! Really enjoyed our stay here. Edinburgh is a beautiful city that is very easy to get around. The hotel is clean and very comfortable. The food in the restaurant was great. I would go back again!

The hosts could not have been friendlier or more gracious. The room was small, but not the smallest we had during our two weeks in Britain. We were very happy with our stay. The convenience of walking into the main city centre of Edinburgh, and the local pubs and restaurants nearby, meant we could leave the car safely parked. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts were great.

Although the property is very nice there are certain things that management should do to improve a guest's stay. Here are recommendations: put teapots in each room, 1 for 5 rooms is not adequate, ran out of milk,seemed their thriftiness was at the guests expense. Towels need to be replaced, frayed edges in a 4 star are not acceptable. The bathroom fan […] was extremely annoying as it had operational loud noise issues, and clearly needed replacing.Breakfast was between 8-9, we arrived at 8:20 and there was only one serving left of eggs and bacon, good thing I like cereal. My husband and I stayed at the Ben Doran over a long holiday weekend. Based on comparative prices and the star rating I believed we'd be getting the same 4 star quality that the city center has, but at a lower price because we were further outside of town. However, this was not the case. The bed was very hard, the shower was so tiny I kept bouncing […] off the walls every time I turned, and the water pressure was low. The hotel also appeared very old and scuffed, and defintitely would benefit from fresh paint and different carpet and wall paper. Breakfast is only served from 8am until 9pm, so on the days we slept in we missed breakfast entirely and the days we wanted to be up early and out the door we missed breakfast as well. The quality of the breakfast was also not as I expected. The eggs were watery (literally there was water in the eggs) and I suspect they were powdered. The sausage was also low quality and mushy. There is limited variety in the rest of the breakfast menu, since this is a small B&B and they just don't put out a huge spread. It was disappointing compared to the numerous other 4 star hotels we've stayed at. I was expecting better quality all around based on the 4 star rating. This hotel should probably be a 3 or 2.5 star. If it had been a 3 star and had a lower price I would have felt this hotel was a good value, but expecting 4 star quality we paid far more for this hotel than we would have otherwise. It was not a good value for our money and I would not recommend this hotel for that reason. On the positive side, the staff were friendly and when I did have a question they answered it as best they could. Also, there is a bus stop directly across the street from the hotel that can take you into Old Town or New Town. Mehr

This B&B is in a lovely mansion with quiet, comfortable rooms. We had 2 rooms for 4 nights from May 11-14th 2011. What we enjoyed most is the quality of the bath, dining and especially, the bed linens, which were superb. The owner, Joseph and the manager, Silvia were so nice and willing to assist us with any request. The tea/coffee/hot chocolate station […] just outside the room is lovely with hign quality products. It is a bit of a walk to town but buses/taxis are plentiful. Bus is reasonable, only 1.30 per ride or 3.20 for an all day pass. The Ben Doran made our stay in Edinburgh a memorable one. The guest House was a bargain compared with a lot of Edinburgh Hotels. Service was excellent. The room was clean and comfortable and a good breakfast was provided.

Walking distance to princes street and Royal Mile, though bus available, we walked, took about 15 minutes. Only complaint is front facing room was a bit noisy at night from street traffic.

Great location for doing Edinburgh. My only complaint was that the be we had was terribly firm and old. I didn't get a good night's sleep either of my two nights but for the price we paid ($110 Canadian taxes included) I'd probably go back. Good food and good location.

What is the difference between a B&B and a hotel? Although they both provide overnight accommodation & breakfast, the image of a B&B is more of large home with available spare bedrooms, flowered carpet & left over furniture. Although this B & B is an older style house, everything about it was really lovely. The decor suited the house and the atmosphere was friendly and homey. The staff were so accomodating and always were sure to greet me when I came down the stairs for breakfast, or if I was coming in or going out. They always asked if I needed anything and if everything […] was okay. The bus into Edinburgh was just outside the front door and was only an 8 minute ride into town. I felt very safe in my room, although because it was in the front of the building on a busy street, it was quite loud. I would stay again but ask for a quiet room at the back. The breakfast was great--full english style breakfast, or could choose if you would rather have fried or poached eggs or oatmeal. Internet was available for a very small fee which was fixed for the duration of my stay. I had planned to stay 5 nights and ended up extending it to 8. All in all a great value. Mehr

I really excellent small hotel - an easy bus ride into the city and far enough out to allow a peaceful stay. Room was excellent, Breakfast was superb and the staff were extremely helpful.

The Ben Doran was clean and comfortable. Whereas it was not cheap, in a time of a depreciated dollar it was a good deal. The room was large by UK standards. The breakfast was outstanding with a lot of variety. The only problem was schlepping luggage to the third floor.

The Ben Doran is a lovely hotel/B&B. It is located on Clerk Street which turns into North Bridge where all the action is. Several buses run past the hotel so catch one is an easy task. Breakfast was included and offered a variety of items to choose from. Our room was comfortable and nicely appointed.

Located on a major street, The Ben Dorian was easy to find by following Route 701, and the parking, though limited, is right at the front door. For trips to the Royal Mile and other tourist attractions, public transit is availble literally steps from the front door. Bus service is cheap and frequent. Mucho peor de lo que esperaba. Cuando lo reservé pensé por la foto que era una casa inmensa tipo palacio. También pensaba que estaba bastante céntrico. Pues la realidad es esta: Es una especie de B&B, poco más (por el coste de un hotel 4 estrellas en cualquier capital!!!!). Está LEJOS del centro, caminando mínimo a 30 min., y eso en Edimburgo con el […] frío y la lluvia es poco recomendable. Con coche es otra cosa, pero yo no tenía. Hay paradas de buses cerca. Pero lo dicho: LEJOS. La casa es pequeña, sin ascensor. La recepción sólo funciona hasta las 2100 así que hay que hacer checkin antes para que te den la llave. CUIDADO: la habitación estándar que reservé, bastante costosa, NO TENÏA BAÑO EN LA HABITACION!!! Llame a Hotels.com y me ayudaron, así que los del hotel a regañadientes me relocalizaron "sin coste adicional???" en una habitación con baño -pequeñito-..El desayuno es bueno, pero es lo único que se salva. A mi-chemin entre l' hôtel et le bed and breakfast, le Ben Doran Guest House est un lieu propre, très bien tenu par des personnes disponibles et souriantes. Dans un style très anglais, ce lieu est situé à 10min en bus (arrêt juste en face et 3 lignes de bus qui mènent au centre). Le petit déjeuner se fait entre 8h et 9h donc très limité. Mais si comme […] nous, vous êtes là peu de temps, ça évite de perdre du temps au lit et laisse la journée pour se balader dans cette ville magnifique ! Je précise car aucun commentaires ne le précisait avant notre départ, il n'y a pas de couvre-feu, la clé de la chambre ouvre toutes les portes donc on peut rentrer à n'importe quelle heure ! Det fanns en tjej i tjugoårsåldern som hade hand om frukosten ofta och hon var trevlig. Men det fanns ett äldre par som var närvarande nästan hela tiden (ägarna?) som var ganska påfrestande i hur de talade med en. Det kändes ganska tydligt att vi skulle vara lite tacksamma för att vi fick vara där. Inte mest serviceinriktade inställningen (även om de […] inte var rakt ut otrevliga). Dessutom fick vi intrycket av att hotellet låg mycket mer centralt än det gjorde. Det var inte svårt att hitta till centrum från det (en rak väg att följa), men det tog utan vidare 30 minuter att gå in till stan. Det fanns buss utanför också, men den gick vid lite ojämna tider. Accueil sympatique et hôtes disponibles. Chambres très propres et confortables, un bémol pour les chambres situées sur la rue qui est extrêmement bruyante... Facile d'accès en bus: 3, 7, 8, 29, 31 et 49 depuis South Bridge (entre 5 et 10 mn).

Super aconchegante. Vale cada centavo pago. Apesar de ser uma "guest house" o lugar é super charmoso e o staff é muito atencioso. Recomendo a todos.

Mycket trevlig och tillmötesgående personal.Man kände att de gjorde allt de kunde för att göra vistelsen hos dem så trevlig som möjligt. Minus var duschen, minimal vattenstråle.För övrigt fungerade allt mycket tillfredställande.
