Very good..only complaint was there was no staff at breakfast to take us through to be seated and that then continued with no one serving us even when they were made aware that we were there, but did make sure to come and get us to sign for breakfast bill, so felt service was quite poor.

We visit cairns 2-3 times a year and stay some where different each time. (experience) from now on we will only stay at the shangri-la, it was such a Pleasant place to stay, the staff were warm and friendly and we felt like we were saying good bye to friends when we left. We also thoroughly enjoyed the horizon room and meeting the lovely guest, that […] we now call some our friends. Stayed at over a dozen hotels in the last 3 months and this one was the worst in class. Very tired hotel, badly designed, Staff were friendly but that's about it Save your money - pitch a tent.

Great location but not up to the standard of other Shangri- La hotels. The bedrooms need modernising and the Horizon Club looks more like a cafe.I would rate this hotel no more than a 4 star hotel---certainly not 5 star.

We got very good rates with hotels.com, very clean rooms, quiet and convenient location, especially being located at the pier complex. I won't compare it to other shangrilla hotel with 5 star as its interior is old, but kept in good comdition.

While the hotel facilities are lovely and impeccably maintained, it is the wonderful staff who help any guests in their charge leave at the end of their stay with fond memories of many special pampered moments. We upgraded to a Horizon Club room on check-in for a modest fee per night. With that we were given a larger room with a bay view (spacious […] and lovely with a balcony). In addition the upgrade also included a buffet breakfast for two, and complimentary evening (5-7 pm) cocktails and hors d'oeuvres buffet. The Horizon rooms are located on the second floor. It includes a complimentary Business Centre to access the internet and print and fax documents, as well as the Horizon Club lounge. You more than get your money's worth with the upgrade and I highly recommend it. The hotel's location is ideal. Easy access to the marina where Great Barrier Reef tours depart from (200 meters) and a 5 minute walk to the downtown shopping area and restaurants. For a first rate hotel experience in Cairns, this hotel delivers. Mehr

What a great hotel. Amenities are fantastic. The staff are very friendly and 'down-to-earth'. The location is beautiful with several cafes and restaurants 30 seconds away. A place to feel special. I enjoy my stay each time I visit.

Hotel is beautiful, staff from top to bottom and every where in between is prompt, polite and helpful. Wonderful service. Really enjoyed the Horizon Club, great value. Free wifi and printing, computer access, breakfast and evenign drinks and canapes included. Staff is very attentive to all guests. Wouldn't stay anywhere else in Cairns!

Great staff and rooms

We had a very enjoyable stay! We had a lovely Harbour View and the staff were all very friendly! We would definitely stay here again!

It's a nice hotel that's right next to a shopping center. It's a bit of a walk from parts of the city though close enough to the Esplanade where all the restaurants are. Cairns is very backpacker heavy so the Shangri la stands as one of the few and best hotels in that area. An excellent hotel, super service and great location. Just wished we had been staying for longer than the one night.

We were incredibly happy and very spoilt during our stay at The Shangri- La in Cairns. We spent four nights in one of the Horizon Club rooms where we were indulged in great views, exceptional comfortability, daily newspaper, massage vouchers, and complimentary buffet breakfasts, dinners and drinks. We originally had one night booked but ended up staying two as the place is just wonderful. We booked the Horizon Club suite/room which was one of the largest hotel rooms we have ever stayed in (the bathroom was amazing), the room was very well appointed and the Marina view lovely. I cannot praise the hotel and staff enough; all were so helpful and […] professional and provided a real 5 star experience. It was our anniversary so the hotel provided free of charge a bottle of sparkling white wine and chocolates on arrival, what a lovely surprise. Definitely go for the Horizon Club floor as the lounge has a great hot breakfast and a full bar (included) from 5pm to 7pm with snacks. Tip: if you have a car just use the valet as it works out cheaper than parking in the Marina carpark yourself. The hotel is right on the water (Marina) and is located a short walk from the Esplanade shops and markets, and is right near the boat wharves for tours- very convenient. We were happily surprised when we found the Shangri- La was located across the main street from the Ferry terminal meaning we had a very short walk to the Great Barrier Reef tour boat departure pier. It is also located at the popular end of the Esplanade near the shops, restaurants and casino. The room on the Horizon Club level was clean, quiet and […] comfortable. We stayed in the Horizon Club Rooms, beautiful views over the Marina and Hinterland. The only issue we had was the first night we were in room 43, this is at the end of a very long corrdor and it was looking at the car park. They were fully booked as we arrived late on a flight, so they moved us the next day to room 19 for our remaining 3 nights. This […] room had a beautiful view of the Marina and everyhing else about our stay was fantastic. the horizon Club breakfast and canapes was excellent and the staff servicing this area were also great. Great location! The hotel staff were very friendly from the day we arrived to check out time. The hotel room was very nice, plenty of room with a balcony. The hotel was within walking distance to the boat tour docks to the Great Barrier Reef. We had great weather and snorkeling was fantastic which we booked through the hotel concierge. The concierge […] also told us about a very reasonable flat rate charge to launder all of our essentials which wasn't posted in our hotel room. It saved us spending hours at a laundro-mat so we could simply enjoy ourselves. Mehr

Would not recommend this hotel for a luxury getaway. No WOW factor that you get on arrival at other 4/5 star hotels. However exceptional service by Staff and cleanliness of rooms was very good.

A wonderful three day splurge here with my boyfriend after two weeks of hostels. The staff were beyond accommodating, the location was literally next door to the Esplanade with the lagoon and nice restaurants and the reef fleet terminal, and the rooms were incredibly comfortable. We were very happy here!

Convenient location at the Marina, away from the noise of downtown Cairns but an easy walk. Staff was great, bed was perfect/comfortable.

Location superb . The hotel could do with the corridors to the bedrooms being vacuumed everyday.They were never hoovered the four nights we stayed there. The corridors could also do with a lick of paint. The decor is also of substandard of the shangri la chain of hotels.

Excellent location,warm and friendly staff,tourist desk advice is good, sure will be back next time.

This hotel is in a great location for Great Barrier reef tours (reef fleet terminal is right next door), walking along the coastline board walk and enjoying the downtown shopping and entertainment district. Staying this close to town and using hotel pickup for some of our tours allowed us to not rent a car for the week we were there. As to service, […] I left a jacket in the closet when we checked out and they arranged to send it to the airport in a cab so I could have it for the remainder of my trip. Very helpful! Mehr

We cannot fault the Shangri-la in any way, that is why we have stayed there twice and will do again next time we go to Cairns. It is beautiful in every respect - position, view, service, cleanliness etc etc.

After 14 days of travelling in our caravan we were looking for something really special for the end o our trip. This hotel was just perfect and fulfilled all pur dreams. A very spacious room with a great bathroom - everything clean and perfectly arranged.

For a 5 star hotel, it was disappointing. Whilst it was clean it looked very tired and in need of refurb.! Room service was slow. We waited an hour for teabags and when they arrived we were allowed only 2 which were Japanese and tasteless! The position of the hotel is wonderful with an ocean view from most rooms and only a short walk to the centre of […] town. Lots of restaurants to choose from - medium priced up to expensive., and quality is very good. We decided not to eat in the hotel and a breakfast cafe very close by was excellent value, with good service and friendly staff., situated right on the Marina and handy for the boat excursions. We would revisit the hotel but only for a short stay as we expect more from 5 star rated accommodation. Mehr

Shangri_La hotel the world famous, the room is not fancy, it is not the matter of the staff attitude or any thing it just not so updated . the TV was not the kind of stuff that people expect for the price, I assume this hotel is the most expensive hotel in the town but not so advance in tech wise, yet the view was awesome the view of sunset were some […] thing we could remember for life. We stayed there for honeymoon trip and we certainly had very romantic time there. the location of the hotel were very nice but we have lost inside the hotel many times. (the hotel itself is very big in size and we actually had to take elevators two times to get to our room ) I wish they had more updated electronics and furnitures and bedcovers Mehr

Nice hotel and great location. This was right after a cyclone had gone thru the area (six days later). Everything was up and running. Food and drinks were available as if nothing hadhappened. My TV rermote did work, but a tech guy fixed the remote/Tv problem quickly.

This hotel is perfectly located in Cairns. Right next to the hotel is a very nice swimming lagoon and sits across a casino from another corner. There are so many restaurants and cafes nearby. The best part about the hotel location is that it is right next to the Reef Fleet Terminal (where all the Great Barrier Reef tours start out). Big, clean room, with large couch, desk and TV. There's an iron/board and hair dryer. We stayed three nights (broken between a one and two-night stay), as we had a reef live-aboard night in between (the hotel kept our big luggage for us during our live-aboard night). This was perfect because we only had to deal with small bags for the reef trip and […] the location of the hotel is just a short stroll to the marina from where our boat departed/arrived. Location is great as there are many dining options (though most are upscale and sit-down) within a short walk along the board walk. Only downside to this hotel was a musty smell, particularly in the hallway, but also a bit in the room. However, this may be an issue for all hotels in this humid, tropical area. We really appreciated the free internet, which was not a common amenity in most Australian hotels. You typically have to go to a library or McDonald's to get free internet/WiFi. Hotel has a great location, on the water and walk to the heart of town. Room was very clean and roomy. Bath with large tub and separate shower. Across the street from the ferries to the Barrier Reef.
