Altehrwürdiges, im britischen Stil geführtes Hotel. Sehr zentrale Lage, leider manchmal viel Verkehrslärm - je nach Lage des Zimmers. Schönes Bad; relativ kleine, aber komfortable Zimmer. Sehr guter Service. Sehr gute Restaurants, ziemlich teuer. Netter Pool in sehr schöner und ruhiger Lage. Maltas zentraler Busstop vor der Tür.

Die gebuchten Klassikzimmer entsprachen eher einem 4* Standard und bedürfen einer Renovierung. Im Bad gab es keine Heizung. Bademäntel waren vorhanden, leider keine Slipper. Die Matrazen bedürfen dringend eines Austausches: zu weich und durchgelegen. Auf Nachfrage wurde ein Brett untergeschoben das den Mangel etwas ausgleichen sollte. Das ist ein großen […] Manko! Mehr

Das Phoenicia strahlt noch etwas im alten Glanz des British Empire obwohl es schon merklich in die Jahre gekommen ist. Die Zimmer sind je nach Kategorie aber ausreichend groß und sauber. Man darf aber nicht den Stan-dard und die Ausstattung eines heutigen Luxushotels erwarten. Betten und Matratzen sind sehr gut, die Badausstattung nicht mehr auf dem […] neusten Stand aber akzeptabel. Die Stärke liegt im Flair und dem sehr guten Service des Hotels und der zentralen Lage am Busterminal und der Altstadt. Service beim reichhaltigen Frühstück ebenfalls sehr aufmerksam, insgesamt aber zu teuer wenn nicht im Zimmerpreis enthalten. Es war unser zweiter Aufenthalt und wir kommen sicher wieder. Mehr

Traumhaftes Haus im Stil klassischer Grand-Hotels mit britischem Charme und gehobenen, internationalem Publikum direkt auf Valettas Türschwelle gelegen. Perfekte Mischung aus Tradition (im Foyer,Gastronomie-Bereich und Gartenanlage) und Moderne (in den geschmackvoll renovierten Zimmern). Wir hatten ein Executive-Zimmer mit Blick auf den Yacht-Hafen […] und Poseidon-Brunnen. Naturgemäß drang vom Busbahnhof zu den Stosszeiten viel Lärm nach oben. Wenn Sie geräuschempfindlich sind, sollten Sie auf ein Zimmer mit Gartenblick bestehen. Der Pool befindet sich ca. 200m vom Haus auf einem eigenen Deck. Ein nettes und komfortables Hotel, allerdings scheinen die 5 Sterne der Hotelkategorie leicht übertrieben. Die großzügige Bar und das exquisite Restaurant laden ein, hier jedoch wirklich auf 5 Sterne - Niveau, auch im Preis. Ansonsten sehr empfehlenswert, auch durch die Lage direkt am zentralen Busbahnhof und direkt vor dem Eingang zur Stadt. Das mitgebuchte […] Frühstück ist sehr gut und laßt wohl keine Wünsche offen. Die Lage ist top, genau am Eingang von Valletta, wo es viel zu besichtigen gibt. Sehr gut hat uns der Pool gefallen, mit toller Sicht über die Bucht; dort gibt es auch Getränke und Essen. Das Phoenicia ist aber sicher kein 5-Sterne Haus, vielleicht war es das vor 50 Jahren. Die Zimmer könnten sauberer sein, die Putzdamen sind jeweils nur kurz durch […] ohne das Bad zu säubern. Wir würden das Phoenicia empfehlen für Reisende die nicht nur baden sondern auch die Shopping-Angebote und kulturellen Sehenswürdigkeiten Vallettas nutzen wollen, einfach wegen der tollen Lage. Leider bin ich das erste Mal von einem 5Sterne Hotel enttäuscht gewesen. Das Zimmer war relativ klein und bedarf einer Auffrischung. Das Abendessen war höchstens auf einem 3Sterne Niveau. Bis zum Pool muss man ca. 400 m durch den Garten laufen (sehr kleiner Pool). Die Hotellobby ist sehr schön. Ein Aussenanstrich ist dringend notwendig. Aufenthalt (Zi mit Frühstückbuffet) vom 30.5.-4.6.2011 - Toplage mit Gratisparking für Mietauto! -Hotelzimmer im 2. Stock gegen Haupteingang (Busbahnhof), nicht renoviert, jedoch gross und i.O. mit Steinboden und geräumigem Bad. - Der Flur wurde selten gesäubert, teilweise lag auch nach 2 Tagen der gleiche Dreck noch am Boden... Anders im renovierten […] 3. und 4. Stock. Zimmer neu mit Teppichböden, jedoch deutlich kleiner! - Im Frühstückssaal wurde man plaziert: der Typ lief aber ständig mit Handy am Ohr rum, während er die Leute zum Tisch begleitete! Oft lärmig, klapperndes Geschirr der Bediensteten, fehlende Lebensmittel auf dem Buffet, auf der Terrasse teilweise kein weisses Gedeck, Service eher lausig, nie und nimmer eines 5***** Hotels würdig. Poolbereich ab 08.00h geöffnet, Liegen standen kreuz und quer, Gläser auf den Tischen, Duschen und Toiletten noch nicht gereinigt, Wasserqualität ebenfalls grenzwertig. - Definitiv no place to return! The hotel was very well positioned for using the buses and sightseeing in Valetta. Service in the hotel was friendly and helpful. The pool was kept very clean. The gardens were beautiful. Good access to internet.

Hotel was fine but the main thing that let it down for me was that the room was too hot. The air-conditioning can't be changed to anything but 25'C - who decided that everyone wants their room at that temperature. OK one other small complaint - there was nowhere to put my bag to open & close so it stayed on the floor for 5 nights.

The reception staff was very good but we were disappointed with bar staff. They made us feel that we were in their way. Our room was very comfortable with superb view but unfortunately it is not sound proof, the french windows would not shut tight so you could hear the traffic. Great location for exploring Valletta and Malta. Right next to Valletta's main bus station meaning pretty much anywhere on the island is only one or two bus trips away. Because of this, I'd avoid the taxis. They are expensive and the drivers have a high opinion of themselves. They refuse to use the meters and always try to charge Eu20 however long the […] trip. A two minute walk from the hotel and you're "in" Valletta. From there you are no further than a 20 minute walk from anywhere in Valletta. Impressive bar and public areas and lovely gardens with some great views over to Sliema. Staff were all very friendly, attentive, helpful and welcoming. Room was a good size and well maintained (we had two small balconies with nice rattan furniture), slightly old fashioned in its furnishings, but still comfortable. The bathroom was very poor for a hotel of this type - old fashioned and in serious need of a comprehensive refurbishment. Breakfasts were good and plenty on offer, but soya milk was not available for the dairy intolerant amongst us. A great, well run hotel in a convenient and pleasant location. Mehr

We have stayed here many times and have never been disappointed; from the reception staff to the rooms to the restaurant to the beautiful gardens and pool. Well situated at the entrance to Valletta, a minutes walk from the bus terminus and cafes, bars and places of interest, there is so much to do on the doorstep of the hotel you don't need to go far […] to find everything you could want. the hotel is perfectly situated in order to get the best out of the city of valletta,being literally just outside the city walls.having spent mornings viewing things historical,afternoons were spent lounging around the pool,drinking reasonably priced drinks and enjoying excellent snacks.evening meals were spent in both the pegasus and phoenix restaurants […] as we prefer to stay in house at night.we chose the basic room which was more than adequate and would certainly stay there again. I had always been told this was the best hotel in the world for the last 40 years and so I took my wife for our silver wedding aniversary celebration. We were not disapointed. Upon arrival on Thursday we were invited to a reception in the Palm Court where the free wine flowed and then in for a fabulous buffet. In our room was a bottle of champagne on […] ice and local sweets. The room was spotless and the balcony view of the harbour also looked out on a football training pitch - some players were good! It was a pleasant strool to the pool and bar where the loungers were so comfortable a decent afternoon snooze was had before the very large pot of tea was brought over. Prices were higher than outside the hotel but they are not 5* decadence. We found Valletta restraunt prices to be half the price of others in the tourist towns, and the small cafes and coffee shops for the locals were brilliant, its worth walking out and going local. If you want ultra modern 5* then this is not it. The Phoenica is old school 5*, a place of opulent luxury with superb service. We will certainly be back for a long weekend next year. Mehr

Greeted enthusiastically; very smooth check in, passport etc. Delightful accommodation. We were helped in all the things we needed including a late check out and help with our luggage. Cannot fault the staff who were smiling and helpful at all times.

Common parts and externally it's a wow. Get to the rooms and they're shabby I'm afraid. We were aware of this before so only a slight disappointment - especially the severe damp patches in the bathroom. Pool area nice but busy - rarely anyone in pool itself. Jug of cheap sangria was very expensive. Service was good and friendly but not quite there […] from all staff. General Manager, great. Didn't try the food, had breakfast elsewhere and the occasions we wanted room service at 11pm, they were on very limited menu only. Very good value could be had at so many other places too. One of the best hotels we have ever stayed in, and we have visited over 40 countries now. Rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean, food and drinks were excellent in the main and terrace bar, staff were great throughout the hotel. Beautiful Gardens, great location and good value overall. Highly recommended.

This is a very old fashioned hotel and all the more delightful for it The staff are friendly and all helpful, and lean over backwards to solve any problems. The situation of the hotel is ideal for sightseeing, being next to the bus terminal and just outside the gates of the old city. I would love to get back soonest

Great 4 star hotel, not quite up to the 5 stars. Very good location in Valletta city, food very good in the hotel, also some very good resturants in the same area. Concierge in the hotel very helpfull in this regard. Swimming pool area has fantastic views down over the old city.

This hotel has old fashioned standards of service and presentation which were pleasing and very welcome. Prices at their different bars were over the top , mostly twice and sometimes three times the price of other establishments. Staff and management were cheerful and very helpful.

It seems like you have to deduct at least 2 stars for every star on Maltese hotels. The reception staff was friendly and the breakfast buffee was acceptable. But the hotel is quite run down and the the bathroom was not cleaned completely. But it was the best hotel of the ones I stayed at in Malta.

3 out of the 4 nights here we were kept awake until the early hours by loud music both from a wedding on 2 occasions and on 3 nights by a fun fair about 100yds away. A great hotel ideally situated for exploring Valetta. Despite its location (right next to the bus station: very handy), it was quiet and felt like a bit of a hidden oasis, actually, with its peaceful gardens and a light and airy lounge area. Super hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Great location for just walking into Valletta. Echoes back to an old Colonial era, with the odd Art Deco touch here and there. Many rooms have been up-graded, mine was one of them - small room, but adequate as simply a base to venture out. Nice peaceful gardens to sit in with a small, over subscribed pool […] area, with not enough loungers to go round. Very comfortable large lobby bar. Very popular with both young and old. We had the most basic twin room and it was still a good size for the two of us, we had a nice view of the harbour. Lovely pool area reached by walking through the pleasant gardens (although the pool is not massive if you have children but it is all the same depth, and there is a small pool for the little ones). Despite visiting the hotel in July at […] the start of the summer holidays it did not feel busy or overcrowded. Great location, right by the bus station and the cit of Valetta. Friendly and helpful staff, we were even be able to check in three hours early as our room happened to be ready when we arrived from the airport. I would definitely stay here again if revisiting Malta. The only fault we could find was our bathroom tap dripped! Mehr

We have been staying at the Phoenicia for ten years now and we have always had a relaxing and pleasant stay. The refurbished rooms we have stayed in, both harbour view and executive, have been most comfortable and very clean. However, the windows are in need of replacement. The range of food and beverages at the buffet breakfast was extensive and frequently […] replenished. We particularly appreciated our eggs being cooked to order. The majority of the waiting staff were efficient and friendly as were the reception staff. Check in and check out were speedy and smooth. The pool area is in a fantastic location, reached by way of a short walk through well tended and pretty gardens. It was picturesque and benefitted from a bar and restaurant service. The area was further enhanced by the spectacular view over Manoel Island and Sliema. I would say however that some of the sunbeds and cushions are in need of replacement. Public areas are very clean and well staffed. Free Wi-fi is available in the public lounge. On this occasion we did not use either the restaurant or the bistro in the hotel but both were fine on previous visits. Mehr

Lovely art deco hotel, with beautiful reception room and good restaurants. Rooms on the small side (and absolutely take one with a view). Pity there is no (free) wireless in the rooms! Staff very kind and competent.

There are positives and negatives to staying in the Hotel Phoenicia. It is very well located and handy for people going on bus excursions. The pool looks good and the bar is chic. Our room (the man at the desk proudly informed us we had been 'upgraded' to a suite) was spacious and the bed comfortable. However, the hotel is really tired and outdated. […] All the paintwork is old and the surfaces are chipped. The room itself looked liked it hadn't been renovated in 35 years. The appliances were antiques (and not in a good way) and the bathroom dreadful! When we complained about the worn enamel of the bath, the dirty sink, the grotty kettle and the bacteria infested grouting the management promised they would do something but we feel they should offer more. Not really acceptable and pretty slack generally - especially as we had opted to upgrade rooms beforehand to a supposedly 'superior' room. Mehr

The only downside to our stay at the Phoenicia was the very slow service at the evening meals. Although the staff seemed to be hurrying around we had to wait for long periods of time. On one occasion 20 mins before we saw the menu and 1 hour before we got our main course. Breakfast and lunch was very good.

It was a lovely colonial building which has aged yet retained its original charm. Its a huge step back in time in a nice way. This is not to say that the hotel looks tired. Far from it, it is very well maintained. The staff are extremely friendly and very helpful, I cannot fault any of them. If I was to point a negative, its the noise caused by the […] cleaners early in the morning. I don't think that they realised how sound travels in those old stone buildings.
