Helmsley Park Lane Hotel - New York

Room was great. The only thing I would recommend is to put coffee makers in the room.

Our room was a bit tired. Lamps saggy, carpet worn, etc. Nothing that would have required a trip to the front desk, but it may be time for the Park Lane to begin overhauling its rooms.

Great location with a view of central park. Room clean and comfortable. Do not bother with hotel breakfast it is very over priced and not good! Plenty of great breakfast places close by.

I loved the old charm and romantic decor. The location was perfect and the room size (delux double) was huge based on the size of other rooms I have stayed in before. Was surprised to not have a clock radio/Bose type radio in the room or a self serve ice machine. I was ok without because I was overall comfortable with the room and the service. The size of the room was exceptional considering we were in NY. Everything was very comfortable. A couple of things: 1. A faucet in the bathroom that was not working was reported on day one and not fixed when we left two days later. 2. The TV had a noticeably dim picture. Time to upgrade.

My favoriite Hotel and location. Never disappointed

Although we only stayed one short night, the hotel was beautiful, the rooms very clean and the bed was unbelievably soft and comfortable - one of the most comfortable beds I've slept on - We wanted to take it home with us. The staff was very very helpful with everything we needed, from getting a cab, to recommending places to eat and see, whatever. […] The only thing is we didn't have ice on our floor - or I didn't see it. I have stayed in many New York Hotels and most have been too small and shabby. My budget is small so it is a treat to be able to stay at the Helmsley! It is actual fun to come back to my room at the end of the evening instead of dreading it.

Had the Junior Suite and loved the spaciousness of the room!

great room with a view of central park. Fee for WiFi is really unnecessary this day and age, otherwise very nice hotel, no complaints.

Excellent location. The facility looks a bit worn but staff tries to make up by being friendly and accommodating. Brazilians seem to be welcomed guest and their flight schedules stretch the front desk at times when they are checking in and out. There appear to be mostly foreign tourist rather than business men adding a cheerful touch.

Despite asking for a non smoking room, I was placed in a smoking room. Allegedly they were full for the night and had nothing else. Despite the front desk saying they would send housekeeping to spray and air the room, they never arrived. I had to call an hour later. Then I had to stay on top of the front desk to get moved in the morning. I was never […] offered an apology, nor given any explanation. Horrendous front desk staff will keep me away. Mehr

This hotel could be really great if the staff had a better attitude. Everyone from the bell boy to the waiters at the restaurant almost ignored you when you needed them. You got the impression that they did not like their job and therefore you got bad service.

Beautiful view. Friendly service. Would defiantly stay there again.

In town for the Met & theater. The hotel is elegant, lovely, beautifully furnished. The room was exceptionally quiet, well-appointed - spa-type shower, large bathroom counter space, fluffy robes, lots of space. The TV reception was poor but we were hardly in the room. The concierge, household staff were helpful, friendly, courteous. Quick cab to the […] Met and everywhere else. I booked the Exec(Top of Park Lane)Park View. It is a great room with wonderful central park view!!!! It is very worth!!! Highly recommend!!!

NOT a room with a view. the only reason to stay at this hotel is for the view of the park and the city. which is why I reserved at a higher price than hotel in time square area where I seeing show after show. Upon arrive, my room without a view was of a back alley! I phoned management upon arrival to express my horror. I then went to the desk with […] my printed reservation stating a city view. I was informed RUDELY that that back alley was a city view and nothing could be done. I have never had such a rude, hostile encounter with management. I rarely complain - EVER. But have never been so offended and I have visited many hotels in NYC, skip this decaying location. Mehr

Our 4 day St. Patrick's day weekend stay was the best. The location was perfect. A subway entrance was about 100 feet from the front door. The view from our room overlooking central park was world class. Every interaction with the hotel staff was pleasant helpful.

It was our first time in NY and we picked a great location. The hotel staff were more than friendly. If I go there again it would be for them. Problems are: hotel is clearly in need of major update. Everything was working but looked like the eighties. Another problem was they were not thorough in room cleanliness. I opened the kitchenette door and found […] behind it so much dust. Some of the towels had stains & the napkins we got with breakfast had holes!!!!!! Even our first bed sheet had a hole. I think they need to update their housekeeping along w/ the decor. Mehr

It's a solid hotel, well maintained and professional service but the interior is defintely a bit dated, and the room a bit small

Everything was good except I would buy shower curtains that will stay in the shower and not leak water all over the floor

Lovely hotel, beautiful part of town. However, we were never asked our preference of a smoking or non-smoking room and they placed us in a smoking room on a smoking floor. Also, I find it odd that there was no coffee pot and coffee in the room in a hotel of this grandure. When my stay was over I discovered I had left behind a book. I called the hotel, and the head of security promised to check with lost and found and see if it had been turned in. Two days later the book arrived in the mail. This level of service was typical of the quality I experienced during my stay when the information desk stood ready to help with […] information on restaurants, local shopping spots, and even the best way to get to JFK for our return flight. Prime location to explore NYC.

This hotel is a faded hotel of the 70's that has seen better times. Although the view overlooking Central Park was terrific, the torn wallpaper and the old bathrooms belie a poor maintenance program and loss of pride. To make matters worse, the hotel only received a B rating on its sanitation inspection from New York City. With its exorbitant prices […] for breakfast, it would be safer and less expensive to eat from the minibar. I was prepared to enjoy my stay for my wife and I were married at this hotel 40 years ago. Having stayed at this hotel many times through the years we knew that the decor was going to be dated and a bit beyond its prime but our room was in dire need of a make-over. The beds sagged, the wallpaper was peeling and the bathtub had the porcelain rubbed off in places. Come on Park Lane, we want to stay there again but probably won't until we hear […] of renovations. Great location. Very spacious room, for downtown New York, and helpful staff. The room we were given was definately older decor and the bathroom was worn looking, though very clean. But, for the discount we got, I can't complain.

The Helmsley Park Lane has the best location for the things that we like to do - shop along 5th Avenue, spend time in Central Park and eating in great restaurants. Also, if you're coming in from La Guardia, it's ridiculously simple to get to the hotel. The N train takes you straight from Queens to the 59th St. & 5th Ave. subway stop only steps away […] from the Helmsley Park Lane. This was our second stay in this hotel and we will keep coming back! The only negative sine the last time we came (4 yrs. ago) was that they stopped the complimentary chocolates at the front desk! Mehr

This hotel is worth it at winter rates. It is an amazing location but is horribly outdated. 4 stars because of location only.

If you want to enjoy a piece of Old New York ( in a good way) book this hotel. The rooms are very spacious, and the Park Room view is phenominal. Staff is very friendly and accomodating. I live only about 60 miles from NYC, my wife and I will stay over for a romantic night out. This time I was able to stay the whole weekend. We have been coming here […] for about 6 years in a row. I have never been disappointed.I recognize staff members that have been here longer than I have been coming here.And they always serve you with a smile.I've stayed at quite a few places in NYC. Amazing location! Classy hotel at a fraction of the price. Room was a perfect size. Bed and pillows very comfortable. Amazing price. Would definately go back!

My husband and I stayed here for one night, we had tickets to the MET. The hotel was clean, the bed was superbly comfortable and it had by far the best water pressure I had ever experienced at a hotel. Greet shower! The hotel staff was friendly and helpful, I would definitely stay the again.

The Helmsley Park Lane was convenient for us to sightsee and visit with family. The doorman and bellhop were extremely welcoming and helpful. There is some need for updating of the rooms, but perhaps because we were using a cutrate for 3 nights for the price of 2 that we were given less than the standard room.

We found this hotel to be very comfortable. The staff was wounderful and of course the location great.
