The hotel is distinctive in many aspects among them the old furniture and paintings, the atmosphere, the perfect service and the perfect location at the Park. It is not a glitzy, loud place, but it has an oldfashioned (in a very positive sense) elegance that cannot easily be recreated. The service of about everybody in the hotel is the best that I have […] had for a long time. The restaurant is enjoyable. The only aspect with slightly reduced grades was my room, which would have profited from some renovation (which someone told me is planned anyway) - not in the sense that it is run down but that it needs a bit of redecorating. There is no better location in Boston than that of the Taj (it is the former Ritz-Carlton). Just across the street from the Public Garden, the Taj offers a picnic basket lunch to take there. Amazing in the cleanliness for an older building. Top quality furnishings, linens and bedding. Wonderful amenities in the rooms. A luxury destination hotel. Best location in Boston - just across from the historic Boston Public Garden. Immaculately clean! It's an older building and even older luxury hotels have difficulty keeping these buildings clean, but this was spotless. Comfortable beds, luxury bed & bath linens, great bathrooms & amenities, up to date TV's. Cell phones do not work in the hotel (or […] other buildings like this in Boston). Great breakfast selection, but coffee not readily avaiable. Bathroom floors could use updating - some broken tiles and dingy around tub. Door with ramp remains locked at all times, requiring a wait for someone to let you in. No grand entry or foyer. So, overall 4 stars, not 5.

Enjoyable! Concierge, James, was very informative and friendly.

Very quiet and there just isn't a better location for that area of Boston!

Overall nicedowntown hotel! Taj Pillows are uncomfortable.

They did change my room after I found a ? very large bug in the bath tub.

Beautiful old hotel in the style of yore. Gorgeous detailed environment and great service! Booked this hotel for my parents visit to Boston. Only drawback is old hotel doesn't have so many outlets for charging. It would be nice if the hotel listed power strips as ammenities to get from the front desk, otherwise, great experience!

We stayed at this hotel because there was a good deal on hotels.com. It was very comfortable, and any requests were promptly addressed. When they couldn't give us a double bed room, they gave us a complimentary portable bed that was twin size but still very comfortable. Their gym is acceptable (tough needs upgrading) and they offer complimentary water […] and snacks in the gym. While they have a business center with computers that have internet access free of charge, their wifi in the room is $10 per device which is ridiculous. If we had to pay more than we did, it wouldn't be worth it. The hotel lobby is nice and organized, but the sink was clogged in our bathroom from the minute we checked in, and 2 of the towels as well as the bathroom mat had noticeable hair on them (before we had used the bathroom). The Taj is a great place to stay because of its location near downtown and the back bay area. Since its purchase of the renound Ritz-Carlton on Arlington Street some things have changed. The staff is just as friendly, but the atmosphere is missing something. Recently, the hotel eliminated the club room/floor which we enjoyed for years. Also, the custom […] of jackets only in the Bar has been changed to jeans optional attire. Traditions are under attack here as well. The Cafe restaurant was closed and under renovation. The utilized the old dining room instead. It was nice to sit in that room once again. Overall, it was a nice stay. Mehr

My girlfriend and I were in Boston celebrating our two year anniversary and we decided to stay at the Taj. The price was very reasonable and the area was perfect--safe, fun, close by to most of Boston's attractions. The hotel itself was beautiful (with a great view of the park) and the staff was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.

It was my first time at The Taj and I tried it as hotels.com had a great rate. The room overlooked the Public Gardens and the location was ideal. The staff went above and beyond for every detail. I will definitely stay there again!

Attentive staff, great location (across the street from the public park and steps from the Arlington stop on the Green Line), and very comfortable (large room with a large bathroom - plenty of amenities). Do have a drink at the bar/lounge, gaze at the paintings of the hounds, and imagine yourself in a more elegant time.

The woman at check-in was wonderful. We tried for an early check-in. Not only did she get us into our room but she took the fact that it was my husbands birthday and managed to get us a wonderful room overlooking the park. Terrific stay! Love this hotel!

Really terrific service. We were in Boston during the transformer fire which had the power out to the back bay. They Taj team handled it beautifully!

Formerly, The Ritz, it still feels and looks like a Ritz. Spacious room with a view of Newberry St; TINY bathroom, but sufficient. Power was lost in the hotel due to a fire in a transformer; under the circumstances, staff handled it well, but no apology or compensation was offered. Found Hotel Bar to be high priced

This hotel is old. It needs some updating. Elevator problems forced me to walk down 15 flights twice. Fireplace suite was sizable but bathroom was tiny. HVAC needs updating. Old style controls made it difficult to adjust temp. Takes at least 30 minutes to get your car. I love the bar at the hotel. The Taj in Boston is rate online at 4.5-5.0 stars for good reason. My wife and I stayed for a night last weekend so we could go to a restaurant in town and not be concerned about driving home. The Taj gave us a room overlooking the Public Garden that also had a fireplace. It was a cold and windy night so it was a perfect accompaniment to our evening. […] But the reason for the review is that the service at the hotel was 5 stars - from the doorman to the person at the front desk to the fireplace butler that lit the fireplace - everyone was courteous and very helpful. I highly recommend that the next time you stay in Boston that you choose the Taj over other luxury hotels simply because of the service. Mehr

Great location, friendly staff, excellent room; roses for everyone on arrival.

The Taj was a great spot for our weekend getaway to Boston. It's very well located across from Boston Common with lots of nearby shopping and dining. It's an easy walk across the common to the historic district. Our room was small, but well appointed. Also, this is a pet friendly hotel, so we were able to take our little dog. The valet parking is $44 […] a day, but there is a public garage below the common which was just $16 a day. Mehr

The Taj Boston is located in the heart of the Back Bay neighborhood in downtown Boston. In my opinion the location is priceless. There couldn't be more shopping and delicious restaurants right at your fingertips. I was a little disappointed with the view from my hotel room as it was just the back of other buildings and I could not see that wonderful […] Boston skyline like I had hoped. In the two times I took a shower during my stay, only one was warm enough. The first shower was borderline cold and the second shower was merely lukewarm. This is unacceptable for a hotel of this caliber. Also upon entering the room the thermostat read at a stifling 82 degrees Farenheit. I turned it off and after I returned from dinner it has only falledn to 77 degrees. Again, this is unacceptable for a hotel of this caliber. Otherwise the stay was pleasent. Mehr

Spent Christmas here and it was beautiful--well worth while upgrading to conceirge level for food and drinks almost all day long. Hotel is fit for a king and a queen!

The basic infrastructure and location of the Boston Taj cannot be beat. Nice to see the old building )rather than the newer one next door) as the focus for hotel guests. Excellent hotel services exist including the cozy bar and cafe at street level. Greater attention needs to be paid to general maintenance and cleaning. Rugs throughout were soiled and […] the outside welcome mats looked worn and dirty. A simple daily vacuum is all that is needed there. A lampshade and picture, in an otherwise perfect room, were askew on arrival and one curtain had been separated from its wand pull. Not major problems but still not expected in a hotel of this rank. I will of course return for the location and the tradition and very comfortable bed. Mehr

The front desk manager was very kind and we were able to score a great corner room with views of Boston common and comm ave.! It was a delightful experience and I will definitely stay there again!

The Taj used to be The Ritz in Boston. Now it is being run on the cheap, but the prices they charge are not!! We booked a park view room at top dollar. We had to complain after not having heat the first day. A maintenance guy came in and with special tools turned on the baseboard heat. It could not be turned on or controlled by us. He said if that was […] not warm enough he would have to bring in a space heater!!! This was a very expensive room. The icing on the cake was the fact that I had no hot water the third morning. We had to leave early for our plane and I was running the water for a long time at 5:30 am. No hot water emerged, so I took a cold shower. At 6:00 am the hot water started for my husband and my daughter. I believe they are trying to cut corners and save some money by not heating until complaints are heard and not turning on the hot water heater until 6:00 am. Mehr
