fair amount of blue collar workers staying there and hanging out on balcony drinking beer, smoking and talking fairly late at night. Bring your ear plugs. Great staff.

I am not a picky person at all, and usually have nothing but the best to say about most if not all hotels but this by far was the worst place to stay at. They cancelled our reservation because we were a day late, even though we had called several times during the week to let them know we would be a late arrival and obviously there was a lack of communication […] and they marked us as a no-show. We eventually were given a room, but only after a very long wait. I came back to my hotel to take a shower only to find that the knob on the shower had broken, the drain was completely clogged and hence the shower started flooding. I rushed out to the phone to alert the front desk, only to find that our room had come with a broken phone. I had to clean myself off and quickly run all the way to the front office only to hear that the women was in training and by the time we could get someone to our room some of the carpet had water on it. i was subsequently evicted from the room, and referred to as "boy" and other degrading comments several times. They made it seem like it was completely my fault, and that their room was in "perfect condition" even though it came with an air filter and obviously several things were broken in the room. There is obviously a lack of communication, accountability and horrible service. Will never return, and can honestly say these were the worst 3 hours of my life. Mehr

It’s not Hilton, but for the price it’s a very dissent hotel, very close to UVA. I would stay again.

Of I could eate this a -10 I would. The room was not clean. The adage you get what you pay for so applies. Avoid this hotel at all costs.

The sink doesn't work and I complained they told me the maintanance person is not on duty today. The pool was not open and it was 82 degree outside. The room smell.

this affordable hotel was easy to get to, and allows pets (with additional fee) it did not look like much, but the room was clean. My husband did not find the bed comfortable, but I did not mind it - it was softer, versus the normal rock hard hotel mattresses. We stayed for 1 night & was very close to JPJ for our concert but definetly wouldn't have stayed there otherwise. It was not very clean & there were bugs in the room. The front desk staff was not pleasant at all. The refrigerator didn't really work. Next time we are in Charlottesville will make other arrangements!

Best price in town

Our non smoking room smelled like a combination of smoke and the chemical used to suppress it. The sheets on the bed were old and uncomfortable. The only plus about this hotel was the price but in retrospect I would happily pay more for a better place. .

I recently stayed at the University Econo Lodge with a group of friends for a Thursday night out in Charlottesville. I was worried about staying there after reading the reviews on this site, but I found everything to be in working order. There were NO bugs in our room. The room was clean enough. there was a lot of commotion. loud customers, cursing and arguing late into the morning. the room 101 had a mildew smell. I sprayed the room with febreze that i keep in my car. the comforter was torn on the bed closes to the door. we were awaken by the headlights from cars parking in front of the office. there were police cars and lots of slamming doors […] starting at 4am. I attended a college women's basketball game that night, and this location was just perfect to walk to the arena and not have to worry with parking. The room was comfortable and adequate for my needs. The continental breakfast, however, was not at all interesting- I went somewhere for a sit-down breakfast.

The location and the breakfast was the attraction for me, even after reading all the bad reviews, but I had to try it myself to believe. All the reviews are right, I found bugs on the pillows, the carpet is old and nasty looking, TV look like it was cleaned with a dirty cloth, bathroom sink and commode look really OLD. Caulking around the room look […] really bad. No tissue paper the second day. The room's door was hard to close. Very noisy. Very tiny space for breakfast. Gentleman at the Front Desk not that friendly (not welcoming). In general, this will be a place I will never stay again, I will prefer to drive a couple of feet more and pay an extra dollar but try something with more stars. Highly NOT recommended!!! Mehr

Hotel was really easy to find James on the desk was very helpfull and polite on our arrival and the next morning at breakfast

Very convient to John Paul Jones Arena, walking distance. An older motel, but clean and staff was friendly

I read the reviews here on hotels.com and my experience wasn't nearly as atrocious as some of the others. This hotel is easily the one that folks stay in to drink beer and then go to games or go out to the bars, even though the bars are a short walk. The curtain rod, safety latch, and smoke detector were broken. The person at the front desk was very polite, but was not able to fix the condition of the room or provide a discount.

The hotel seemed to be undergoing renovations. Our room was not very clean, wet carpet under the fridge and a cockroach in the room. We decided not to stay here. We went to the Days Inn down the road. Top marks to Hotels.com though, they provided full refund.

My recent stay was ok, except the first room that we were given had a big gap under the door, where the bottom trim was missing. The manager on duty gave us another room which was better, but could have used a fridge and coffee pot, that was no problem. I would stay again and also recommend to others. Thanks

Hi - econo lodge is a trusted brand, so when i booked it as a quick overnight stay, I had hoped it would be nicer. I felt like the room was had a musty, difficult to breath air, had trouble breathing (so much i didnt take a shower due to the smell in the bathroom) Not to mention that I came home with bites on my body that I am now investigating for […] the possibility of bed bugs. I have read online that this smell may have been a red flag to alert the presence of bedbugs. I am not sure if the health dept needs to be alerted. Otherwise the staff was very nice, and had a convenient location close to the highway, starbucks and target, which was helpful as we were passing through traveling. Up to this point I have always been more than happy with my hotels bookes through hotels.com so this is a setback in an otherwise excellent track record. Next time I will not book in any hotel with a lower star rating as wel, learned my lesson on that. Mehr

The hotel itself was horrible, but the people that worked there was nice except on older lady. We checked in that afternoon, and when we wanted to take a shower, it did not work at all. I went to let the front desk clerks know and apparently they thought it was fixed. The room smelled like they mopped it with an old mob dipped in bleach over and over […] again. We had to go down stairs to a empty hotel room and use that shower. They offered to move us to another room the next day because they had a cancellation. If they did not have a cancellation, I do know what we would have done. All the hotels were booked in the area because everyone was trying to get away from Hurricane Irene. This place just gave Econo Lodge a bad name. Will never book Econo Lodge again. Mehr

The hotel staff was friendly. The room was not fancy but comfortable. I appreciated the microwave and refrigerator. The server for the internet was down the for two days. Stores and restaurants were close by. The price was reasonable. The hotel was across the street from a university.

Outside handle to door was broken and asked hotel to fix 3 times, it was never repaired. Dirty wash cloth in bathroom upon arrival. Bathroom was not cleaned after first night. No fresh towels. Dirty crumpled up rug on floor. No cups for drinking water or coffee. Ice machine leaking constantly created a dangerious situation on the floor around it. Toilet seat falling off comode, maintenance ticket put in and never addressed. No spare toilet paper or tissues in room. Bed all springs and sunk too low, backs sore next morning. Pillows lumpy.Taped-up electric switch in bathroom! A/C worked real good. BMZ

Dirty room, people screaming profanities at all hours and frighteningly bad amenities.

This hotel was absolutely filthy. Would never recommend to anyone. Hair in sink and shower. Used bar of soap in shower. Rug filthy.

this is not a luxury hotel so that's why my ratings are not all 5.0 - but it is a good value for the great location (easy walking distance to the University). My TV remote didn't work and wasn't fixed during my stay (although I didn't need it).

Grett hotell om pris er det viktigste. Vil du ha komfort er dette feil hotell. Beliggenhet tett ved UOV, generellt dårlig service på hotellet.
