West Wind Inn - Sanibel

Sehr ruhige Lage, schöner Strand, angenehme Zimmer.

Wir haben dieses Hotel auf unserer Florida- Rundreise im November 2011 für eine Nacht gebucht. Hotel ist schon älter, Zimmer sind neu renoviert und sehr sauber. Bei unserem Aufenthalt war das Meer sehr trüb und braun gefärbt. ( sind nicht sicher ob es am starken Wellengang oder an den Flüssen die hier ins Meer fliesen lag) Die drei Damen am Empfang […] waren über unsere Reservation bei Hotel.com nicht sehr erfreut. Mehr

Dieses Hotel ist das optimale, wenn man relaxen und entspannen möchte in super schöner Umgebung. Personal ist sehr freundlich und das Zimmer war groß und kompfortabel eingerichtet. Man hat fast von jedem Zimmer einen Blick auf den Golf von Mexico. Alles war perfekt!!

Die Lage des Hotels ist fantastisch. Der lange Sandstrand beginnt gleich hinter dem Hotel. Die meisten Zimmer haben eine zumindest teilweise Sicht auf den Golf von Mexiko. Die Zimmer sind angenehm aber nicht super-modern. Die technischen Geräte sind auch in die Jahre gekommen. Das Bad ist sauber und o.k. Die Härte der Betten sind eher härter, was ich […] nicht als Nachteil empfand (nach vielen sehr weichen Betten in den US). Cool ist der kleine Balkon in jedem Zimmer, der einen gemütlichen Tagesausklang möglich mach. Grds. kann ich das Hotel empfehlen und versäumer Si nicht den Sonnenuntergang auf Sanibel - beeindruckend ;-) Mehr

Bei der Suche nach diesem Hotel waren wir mit dem Problem konfrontiert, dass auf Sanibel fast alles Hotels in dieser Preiskategorie dieselben Nachteile aufweisen. Bei diesem Hotel stimme ich nicht zu. Das Zimmer war angenehm und sauber. Es verfügt über einen grossen Pool und direkt dahinter den Strand. In Sanibel gibt es irgendwie kein richtiges Zentrum, […] deswegen muss man fast das Auto nehmen um irgendwo etwas zu essen o.ä. Aber das ist bei vermutlich allen Hotels der Fall. Für Sanibel-Verhältnisse sehr gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis. Die Zimmer haben einen Balkon und sind gemütlich eingerichtet. Gute Lage direkt am muschelübersähten Sandstrand.

Wie oben bereits vermerkt: Service war ok, Hotel war auch sauber und wurde jeden Tag geputzt, usw., aber es ist einfach sehr alt, und ziemlich "old fashioned" eingerichtet und dann auch noch im Englischen Stil: Beispiel ist der Teppichboden im Zimmer - grauenhaft. Lage und Umgebung lassen sehr zu wünschen übrig: - ziemlich weit im Westen (keine Geschäfte […] in der Nähe) - Strand ist einfach ungepflegt, was ich sehr schade finde, denn man könnte viel daraus machen. Manchmal "riecht" es auch etwas nach Kloake, die offensichtlich gerade da ins Meer eingeleitet wird - nicht so berauschend. Für einen Sonnenschirm mit Liege und den Handtüchern muss man pro Tag 20 USD hinblättern, eine ziemlich teure Angelegenheit. Gut dagegen ist: die Parkplätze sind kostenfrei. Insgesamt: es gibt auf der Insel viel schönere, gepflegtere und neuere Hotels, die einen besseren Standard haben, und nicht mehr kosten. Mehr

Sehr schöne Hotelanlage mit schönen Zimmer und neu renovierten Badezimmern. Leider stehen am Strand für die gesamte Hotelanlage nur etwa 10 Sonnenschirme zur Verfügung.

Everything was great except for the very limited amount of beach chairs and umbrellas available for the amount of units on the property.

We definitely enjoyed our stay at West Wind Inn. Great place for families with small children. We had asked for a king size bed which we were told when you request one, most of the time you are placed in a handicapped room; which was great because our bathroom was pretty large. The food at Normandy Restaurant (breakfast and lunch; dinner on weekends) […] was wonderful. One thing we were not aware of while booking is that you need to reserve your beach chairs and pay for them, so if you are driving and have room in the trunk bring your own. Look for dolphins when you're on the beach! Mehr

On our second night our room had bugs in it, large black bugs and others that moved too quickly when lights went on. We spent the night in our car that night, but the next day moved to another room. We were credited that night, and the day shift front desk was very accomodating. They also have the insects that look like some sort of nat that crawl around […] all over. That original room remained vacant until we left. Hair dryers are in serious need of updating. The restaurant Normandy Pub was delicious and resonable in price. Overall a very good experience I would go back!!!! Mehr

We were more than satisfied (Unless they could have held off the rain on Saturday!) The front desk clerk was full of all kinds of great information. We had a very nice get away!! Housekeeping did a great job too!

We had a great time at the West Wind. The location was perfect for us, quiet spot but close enough to drive a short distance to restaurants and shopping. Loved having the screened in patio and the short walk to the beach, our 4 year old grandson had a blast. My husband ran into one crabby woman at the lobby desk but I found the others to be helpful […] and pleasant. We would definitely stay there again. Mehr

Perfect location...wow. Right on a private, sandy white beach with endless shelling. Room was average, but the beds were very comfortable. A lot of bugs on the nightstands, assuming they were noseeums or something of the sort...didn't bite or bother anybody. The bar by the pool was great with very polite bartenders. Nice beach & location. Needed new mattress, better towels & recycling!! Bathroom way too small.

Hotel was a short walk to the beach. Pool area was good with plenty of sun beds. Room was very dark and dreary. It was dominated by a very old and extremely large television. The bed was not very comfortable. There were a few nice touches like a packet of popcorn to cook in the microwave in the room + a fridge. In general the whole place needed modernising […] . Mehr

The hotel is quiet and secluded. It has a beautiful pool and a nice restaurant. The rooms are small, especially the bathroom. I've never been in a shower where there is no place to put soap. There is a nice pool bar and a private beach. Overall this is a very nice place to stay although pricy for the size of the room.

Loved the landscaping, pool, proximity to the beach, and sitting on the screened in porch. Was sort of in the middle of the island so easy to go both directions for eating and sightseeing. Bathrooms upgraded and very nice. Also great to have a microwave and fridge in the room. Only thing we wished had been better were the bed and linens. Awful pillows […] especially. So if you're driving to Sanibel, bring your favorite pillow! Mehr

This is a motel on a beautiful beach, covered in shells. Room was comfortable but rather darkly furnished. Kitchenette was useful, especially as the restaurant was not open more than twice a week in the evenings, and no other restaurants are walkable. Nice pool, and beds and umbrellas on beach. Attractive garden. Could not park as carpark was full of […] day trippers' cars when we arrived. Room was not serviced until after lunch, despite it being available from 9.00am onwards. In our opinion hotel was located on best road on island, as it is quiet and away from traffic jams, and near the sanctuary. We enjoyed our visit. Mehr

an added plus, the food at the hotel was very good and fairly priced - a very nice surprise. the only minus was that they did not have sufficient bicycles available and so we were not able to enjoy this aspect of Sanibel Island.

great location, only complaint is that TV is old box style and cable was out 3 days. Would definitely return.

From the perspective of this snowbird, the West Wind is a dream to stay at. The room was spotless, the service exemplary, the staff very friendly and accommodating. Lots of parking. The on site restaurant fare was excellent and in the genre of a high end bistro. The pool warm and inviting, the beach was only a very short walk from our room. Since we […] love walking on the beach and collecting shells it was perfect. If it were up to us the rating would be at five starts plus. We would most certainly recommend this hotel for anyone staying on Sanibel Island, sun, sand, miles of beach to explore; it doesn't get any better than this. Mehr

We stayed at the West Wind for 4 nights in early December (low season). It seems that all rooms have an oceanview which you can enjoyed from the screened in balcony/patio. Everyone who worked at the West Wind was friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and recently udpated. We took our 5 year old grandaughter to stay with us at the WistWind in mid-January, and we had a blast. She loved the pool, and access to the beach was great. The staff were extremely friendly & helpful, and the resturant, the Normandie Seaside pub was so good we ate 2 breakfasts and 1 lunch there (the coupons helped!). The 3 of us even played shuffleboard! […] What I liked best was the cleanliness of the rooms, the pool area, and the pool itself (heated!) and the fact that the rooms were very quiet. Mehr

Our family spent three great nights in the West Wind Inn the early part of December, 2011. It was the first time our grandchildren (5 & 2) had seen the ocean, and the beach was perfect. The Inn had a great swimming pool and a small pool for children. Our rooms were very clean, and the balcony looked out over the pools toward the ocean. The bathroom […] was large as was the room, and the kitchenette was very nice with dishes, pans, glasses, etc. A small restaurant, part of the Inn, served very good food, and the bar at the pool was a great place to eat and enjoy a cool drink. We have no complaints at all about our stay at the West Wind Inn, and we are looking forward to another visit. Just be sure and take an extra suitcase for all the shells you will collect. Mehr

The room was right on the edge of the beach. All amenities for cooking or having meals in the room. Very nice staff. I would definitely go back.

We had a very nice stay at Sanibel Island. West Wind Inn is perfectly located with direct access to the lovely beach and with a highly appreciated heated pool. You also have restaurants and shopping within a few minutes drive from hotel. Service - when we needed it - was good. We found the room more than acceptable; although older and well used. On walking to our room I noted that almost all decorative shutters on either side of room doors were in sad condition. Some had become detached from the wall at the bottom, others showed signs of rot. Our room although on the small side was comfortable but one of the electric outlets […] in the room became inoperative, just moving the plug to the other outlet worked but I was concerned that a short might cause a fire. Also, the shower door did not seal, therefore water leaked out each time we took a shower. We lived with it until leaving the hotel when we reported the conditions to hotel management. Being that the bath room door trim, adjacent to the area of water leakage, showed signs of wood rot, I'm sure the situation has been reported in the past. The grounds are well manicured and the personnel most helpful. Despite the referenced maintenance conditions, we thought the hotel to be more than acceptable for the price. As a lunch break, we stopped at the Stone Crab having a plate of crab nachos. We were amazed at the large portion served and the unusual but delicious taste of the “snack”. Diner at the Jacaranda was good, but I believe over priced. Mehr

For the price, this was a pleasant enough place to stay. Best part was its location right on the beach. Only real negative was the wall a/c that made too much noise. But, it's an old building without central a/c. Outside pool area is well maintained. Best word to describe it is "quaint" due to the age of the building.

This is an American " Inn" at it´s best. Clean, comfortable, morning newspaper, free WiFi and an all American breakfast ( killer pancakes ). Peaceful location ( Sanibel IS peaceful ) and a friendly staff. Not everyone might like the 70´s decor, but I quickly came accustomed to it. Recommended A+

Compared to the hotel slightly south (Sanibel Sunet Beach Resort), the room was very cramped, no breakfast included, no free bikes nor beach umbrellas (as at the SSBR) - however, they did have beautiful grounds, and a computer room . The location is excellent for shelling. And the individual screened-in porches/balconies were my favorite great. Pool […] was also good size and well used by families. I might stay again, but only if their rates were much lower than others near them. Mehr

We stayed at this hotel to get a bit of a vacation feel for a personal business trip. It was everything we were looking for! It's a "mom and pop" style hotel right on the beach. The rooms have been updated to give it a more modern feel. Each room has a screened in balcony to enjoy those bug free nights. The pool was large, clean, and very inviting. We had a room with a lovely view of the Gulf. It was an efficiency and could easily meet a couples' needs for a week. Staff very accommodating.

We had a lovely few days on Sanibel Island at the West Wind hotel. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful, and the food in the on-site restaurant was superb.

Earlier this December 2011 we spent 4 glorious days with our son, his wife and our two grandchildren (5 and 2) at the West Wind Inn. We were extremely pleased with our room which was always spotless and had a nice balcony facing the ocean and a large, modern bathroom; the swimming pool which was clean with crystal clear water; and the entire outdoor […] area which was well kept. The separate and smaller 14" deep pool was perfect for the 2 year old. The WW Inn has immediate access to the beach where there are millions of shells...a concern we had because, though we'd been on Sanibel before, we had never stayed that far down the beach. The managers were courteous and attentive to all of our needs, and all the employees were friendly and made us feel welcome. Their Normandie Restaurant had a great menu assortment that was economical and great for adults and catered to kids, also. The bar at the pool was very nice. We highly recommend the WW Inn, and, when we return to Sanibel, we definitely will stay here again. Mehr

Hotel staff mostly friendly and helpful. Overall, a bit "run down" looking. Restaurant very dark for a beach hotel, which was uninviting to our frame of mind. Tub seemed to have water beneath it or had warped, causing me to lose my balance throughout my shower--glad for the handle bar on the wall. Bed very comfy!

My husband and I stayed at West Wind over the Thanksgiving weekend. The stay was amazing! The hotel is just a short walk from the beach. The pool was also great with a bar right next to it.
