The Melrose Hotel - Washington

Das Melrose-Hotel laesst nur sehr wenige Wuensche fuer einen kurzen Besuch in Washington offen. Die Zimmer sind sauber und gut ausgestattet. Vom Hotel aus sind im Prinzip alle Sehenswuerdigkeiten (National Mall, Kennedy-Center etc.) gut zu Fuss erreichbar. In unmittelbarer Umgebung befinden sich sogar zwei Supermaerkte, in denen man die notwendigsten […] Dinge einkaufen kann. Der einzige negative Punkt, der mich wirklich gestoert hat, ist die Tatsache, dass ich mir meine Internet-Verbindung via WiFi fuer 10$/Tag kaufen musste. Mehr

Ruhiges, sehr feines, gut ausgestattetes Hotel. Nettes Personal, saubere Zimmer, keinerlei Beanstattungen.

Zimmer: Der Putz bröckelte an der Decke und in der Duschwanne waren überall Schimmelstellen. Und es stank fürchterlich. Im Kühlschrank stand noch offene Milch und Erdnussbutter von irgendwann. An der Rezeption gab es als Antwort den Tipp, die gute Luft bei dem schönen Wetter draußen zu genießen, da die Milch ja so stinken würde.Und der Fön war noch […] kaputt, wurde aber nach 2 Tagen repariert. Wir hatten noch alte Traveller-Cheques dabei. 100$ durfte ich am Tag „Cashen“. Daraufhin bekam ich einen 100$-Schein. Kleiner ginge nicht. „100$-Bills werde ich aber nicht los“-"Dann nehmen sie Ihren Cheque zurück". Dass der Cheque mit nun beiden Unterschriften für mich wertlos ist, glaubte er nicht. Irgendwann ging dann eine zweite Kasse auf und es kamen 3 20er und 4 10er zum Vorschein, die er auf den Tresen knallte mit den Worten "Have a DELIGHTFUL day!" Die Library Bar hat 1 Raum mit Tapeten im Bücher-Look. Die Terrasse ist auf der Straßenseite und wird nur selten bedient. Meist ist die Tür zwischen Terrasse und Bar zu. US-Hotels sind keine Mitteleuropäischen. Das hier war aber ein Witz. Zimmer, in welchen man nicht barfuß laufen möchte. Plus die oben geschilderten Vorfälle. Unfreundlicher Service. Das Hotel ist schlicht das Geld nicht wert. Dieses Hotel war nach der 9. USA-Reise das Einzige, von dem ich wirklich abraten muss. Mehr

Had a nice stay at this hotel...

We thought it was very nice..immaculate accommodations..with a very personal touch!..was very surprised to find out that there was a fee to have our car parked in the garage..nothing was ever discussed or in writing that we were going to b charged an additional $40 per nite to garage my vehicle..that was very surprising to myself and my husband..a bit […] of a disappointment.the management slipped a notice under our door during the night before we checked out..I wish we would have known this prior to booking our stay.because it might have changed our mind regarding our stay at the Melrose hotel..I just feel that the info we were given wasn't 100% factual.. Charming hotel

The tub looked liked someone poured bleach on the dirt and didnt clean it. The wall paper was peeling in some areas. The housekeeping lady came knocking on my door at 11am to clean,my room when check out is at 12. I felt disrespected due to the fact my friends and I were profiled. The night manager saw us coming in and we were talking and he went off […] saying "you better tone it down we know you are from the 6th floor and we got complaints on Friday about you". He obviously mistaken us bc we checked in Saturday afternoon. And only 2 person were talking... The bell staff was friendly. Mehr

The Melrose continues to be a fine hotel in a convenient DC location. However, while its bar is being rennovated the lobby appearance is less than inviting. Hopefully, this construction will be completed soon. Also, we were assigned a handicap room for our recent stay. While these accommodations were okay, the desk should alert guests when they are […] being assigned this room category as a heads up to the unique features of this room category. Mehr

A very warm and comfortable feeling, in a lovely and vibrant N.W. Washington neighborhood, short walk to METRO and Georgetown.

Hotel lobby was being renovated, so it was crowded and a little noisy. Room was ok, bed was too soft for our liking, and it could have used some updates (peeling wallpaper, stained carpet). TV service was intermittent sometimes, guessing they have satellite service and it rained for most of our trip. Quick walk to the Foggy Bottom Metro station, restaurants […] were very close. This was a 7 day sight seeing vacation, great location, friendly staff. Check in and check out was fast. Bed comfortable and room tastefully decorated. Definitely would recommend .

A+++ -- excellent location; friendly staff. Would not hesitate to stay there again.

I was very disappointed with this hotel. The website describes a beautiful spacious hotel. Yet the lobby is cut in half and there are very limited services. The restaurant is unattractive and very expensive. Rooms are small and in need of updating. Bathrooms are very outdated. No vending machines. HVAC is not very effective.

My mother and I have an annual Mother/Daughter weekend get away. I booked the room at this hotel for a King Suite. My mother arrived several hours before me (since we are coming from different areas of the country). When she arrived she had to wait 15 minutes while the front desk staff "fixed" our reservation. What really happened was that they downgraded […] our room from a King Suite to a Double Bed Standard, moved our room from one with a view and placed us right next to the very loud elevator. It might not have been noticable if they had not given her a copy of the paperwork with our original room information crossed out on it. When she inquired about the change they shrugged. Mehr

Would have liked a better valet parking rate. I believe forty per night is too high for guests.

Pro: Good location - on the edge of Georgetown and easy walk to Foggy Bottom subway stop for downtown. And Con: decor is old, AC didn't work and things generally look shabby.

I was deciding between this hotel and another hotel with equal star rating. This offered the bigger discount so we went for it. We were expecting to get a 4.5 star hotel at a 3.5 star price. We were startled by how curt the staff was at reception. Additionally, as we were checking in we overheard another staff member arguing with someone on the phone. […] Then on the way back out for the evening, we overheard the first staff member arguing with a guest at the hotel, yelling from the reception desk to the elevators. We were not pleased with this even though we were not the object of their fury. The room was clean enough, but this is a really old hotel, not just the way it's decorated but also the condition of the building. Overall, I've seen better service at lower-rated hotels, and the condition of the hotel did not impress me. I paid way under what the suggested rate of the room was, so I guess I really can't complain, but it's unlikely I'd ever stay there again or recommend it to friends. Mehr

My only complaint would be that the room was very warm. And it wasn't even summer. We were there in April, warmest day was 66degrees. No A/C that I saw; thermostat was fan only from what I could tell. I am always cold, so me complaining about it being too warm is very unusual. Other than that location was great, easy walk to Georgetown and from memorials […] and monuments. Metro is close by too so if you don't want to walk. Mehr

The hotel rooms are nice except the carpets are very dirty and need to be replaced.

a nice hotel in a good location with very good staff who treated us right. The price was moderate and that was much appreciated. The restaurant was decent but the price of the high of the food. Overall, an excellent experience

This hotel is located in Foggy Bottom/Georgetown. Up the street are swanky shops and restaurants. I recommend Serendipity for dinner and especially dessert. In the other direction is Whole Foods and the metro. The National Mall is an easy metro ride away. The subway system in DC is very new and clean--totally lacking the charm of NYC subways. Valet […] parking is a fortune (only option) and so is room service (of course). I would stay here again. Mehr

Great location, accommodating staff! Rooms are showing a bit of wear but you cannot beat the location and friendly staff. Will definitely return.

Very nice hotel very near to Foggy Bottom Metro. Price varies somewhat but this time the rate was quite reasonable.

The Melrose Hotel is in a wonderful location within DC. We enjoyed walking to the riverfront, as the hotel is just over the bridge from Georgetown. The staff were all very friendly, with prompt service. We requested a crib for our 6 month old daughter, and they quickly delivered one to our room after check-in. We stayed 2 nights. The first night there […] were no problems. On the second day, we showered and left the hotel for the day. Upon our return to our room, it stunk of garbage/sewage. It appeared that the carpet near the bathroom was wet. We weren't sure if that was where the smell was coming from, but we requested a new room at the front desk and were able to switch to a different room on the same floor. This hotel could definitely use some updating. It is not especially stroller/wheelchair friendly, as you have to go up 3-4 stairs to get to the elevators and the elevators are rather small. Overall, not a bad hotel for the price (we booked during a special). Mehr

We were in DC for the Cherry Blossom Festival and 10 mile race. We wanted a hotel in a great location at a great price and that is exactly what we got. The hotel is relatively tight quarters but ample for our needs even with our 10 month old. The nearby Trader Joe's was great. Desk people were extremely helpful and the location really cannot be beat […] for visiting Georgetown, hoping on the Metro and visiting the National Mall. We would certainly stay again at the same price. Mehr

A very nice hotel. Well sound-proofed rooms. Especially convenient is the valet parking. It was an extra$40 but it removed the great parking ticket headache and they garaged the car until three the next day. Pay it and forget it. Also the showers in the rooms GUSH with plenty of hot water. No wimpy econo water saving shower heads. A delicious luxur […] y. Mehr

This hotel is handy if you need access to Georgetown or Foggy Bottom, and it's very reasonably priced. My room had a rather bizarre layout, but it was comfortable enough. Biggest issue was stains on the sheets, which were pretty vile. Other than that, no complaints.

Enjoyed everything!
