Wir möchten immer ein Zimmer zum Hof haben und nicht eines im angrenzenden Hotelgebäude. Ich habe deshalb schon die teurere Zimmerkategorie gebucht mit 2 Betten. Aber wie letztes Mal 10 Dollar Upgrade gezahlt. Aber dafür super freundlicher Service. Super Preis Leistungsverhälltnis für San Francisco und tolle lage zu Fuß 5-10Minuten zur Fisherman-Warf. Auch parken für 12 Dollar in San Francisco ,es sind es in den meisten anderen Hotels 25-50 Dollar.Jederzeit wieder.

Das Hotel liegt in der Geary St. ein paar Blocks vom Union Square. Wir hatten ein Zimmer im zweiten Stockwerk im Mittelgang, was den großen Vorteil hat, dass man den Straßenlärm nicht mitbekommt, sondern nur den gelegentlichen Lärm den andere Gäste verursachen. Die Zimmer haben nur ein kleines Fenster mit einem wenig schönen Ausblick auf den Innenhof. Das Continental Breakfast besteht aus Kaffee, Toast m. Butter u. Marmelade, O- bzw. Apfelsaft u. einem Stück Obst. Problematisch ist die Parkplatzsituation, da gleich vor der Haustür eine Bushaltestelle ist und ansonsten i.d.R. nur Parkplätze für Kurzparker vorhanden sind. Das Hotel bietet für 30 $ p. Tag einen Valetparkservice an, d.h. es kommt jemand u. parkt das Auto irgendwo, was sehr gut funktioniert hat. Das Hotel liegt zwar in der Nähe des Unionsquare aber auch sehr dicht am Tenderloin Bezirk, den man vor allem Nachts meiden sollte. Insgesamt kann ich das Hotel vom Preis - Leistungsverhältnis weiter empfehlen!

Rund um den Union Square reihen sich die Hauptgeschäfte großer Ketten aneinander und machen den Platz somit zum Spitzenreiter der Einkaufsparadiese an der Westküste. Man ist direkt beim grössten Shoppingcenter und Cablecar - und mit direkt meine ich wirklich unmittelbar vor der Türe. Parkingservice sehr teuer (pro Nacht mit Taxen ca. 37 Dollar). Aber funktionierte sonst alles tiptip. Zimmer sehr klein und alt, aber in Ordnung, wenn man nur übernachten möchte und mitten im Senf sein will.
"The Powell Hotel"
Das alte Hotel ist sehr Zentral gelegen und läst eine Stadterkundigung ohne KFZ zu. Vor der Tür befindet sich gleich die Endstation der Cable Car "Powel and Market". Am Nachmittag gibt es einen kleinen Snack und kostenlose Getränke im gemütlchen Aufenthaltsbereich des Hotels.

"Altes, hellhöriges Haus"
Ich habe im Voraus eine Frühbucherrate bekommen und 5 Tage ein Queenbett-Zimmer gehabt. Das Powell Hotel liegt sehr zentral in einem alten Haus im Zentrum von San Francisco. In meinem Zimmer hat die alte Heizung derart laute Geräusche gemacht, dass man ohne Oropax nicht schlafen konnte. Ich hatte im Vergleich zu meinen Mitreisenden noch Glück und ein […] relativ grosses Zimmer zum Innenhof, der aber auch Nachts sehr laut ist. Das Personal am Empfang war sehr unflexibel. Vor meinem langen Überlandsflug fragte ich, ob eine Möglichkeit bestände, einen Spätcheck-Out zu bekommen, was auch gegen Zuzahlung abgelehnt wurde, obwohl das Hotel nicht ausgebucht war. Eine Nicht-Email basierte Rechnung direkt von dem Hotel wurde mir verweigert. Ich freue mich schon auf den komplizierten Abrechnungsprozess in meinem Unternehmen ohne papierbasierte Rechnung des Hotels! Ich kann das Powell-Hotel nicht weiterempfehlen! Mehr

"Das Hotel liegt direkt am Cable-Car Turnaround"
Gediegendes wunderschönes altes Hotel mit einfachen, aber sauberen Zimmern. Altmodische Einrichtung ohne Safe und Kühlschrank, aber preiswert. Das Auto wird gegen Gebühr weggeparkt und jederzeit wieder zur Verfügung gestellt, wenn man es braucht. Einmalige zentrale Lage direkt am Turnaround der berühmten Cable-Car an der Powell Street. Sehenswürdigkeiten […] und Einkaufsmöglichkeiten zu Fuß zu erreichen. Wer gerne mitten im touristischen Zentrum logiert, ist hier richtig. Gleich vor der Türe warten den ganzen Tag hunderte von Touristen auf einen Platz in der Cable Car. Mein Zimmer war doch sehr klein (Deluxe Double, wobei ich nicht rausgefunden habe, was dabei "Deluxe" war), und mein Wunsch nach einem Wechsel in ein etwas grössere Zimmer wurde drei […] Tage lang mit der Bemerkung "wir sind völlig ausgebucht" abgetan. "Unten Hui, oben Pfui"
Das Hotel liegt in guter Lage, keine Frage und auf den ersten Blick (Rezeptionsbereich) sieht das Hotel auch wirklich nobel und gepflegt aus. Die Zimmer zeigen aber das wahre alter des Gebäudes und die Pflege desselbigen. Sie stinken nach Taubenexkrementen (was an den Fenster liegt wie folgend erklärt), die Bäder sind alt, abgegriffen und leider auch […] schmutzig (ich spreche hier in Mehrzahl da wir in der Gruppe mehrere Zimmer auf verschiedenen Stockwerken gebucht hatten). Die Türen schliessen nicht richtig, es dringt nachs viel Licht durch die Tür in das Zimmer. Überall fehlerhafte Schalter, Steckdosen und auch absolute veraltete, vermoderte Fenster die nicht aufgehen oder nicht offen bleiben bzw. folgend auch nicht korrekt abschliessen. Alles in allem ist an diesem Hotel eigentlich nur die Lage gut. Es gibt weit bessere Hotels in der Gegend besonders von den größeren Hotelketten. Für das Gebotene ist der Preis eindeutig zu hoch! "Sehr zentral gelegenes Hotel"
Super zentral gelegen, beim Hinterausgang ist gleich die Starteinstiegstelle für den Cablecar. Leider ist es etwas lärmig, entweder hört man den Cablecar oder auf der anderen Seite die Strasse. Würde aber wieder hingehen, da die Marketstreet gleich daneben ist.

"Mitten in San Francisco"
Sauberes und freundliches Hotel.Das Zimmer klein und dunkel da wir die Aussicht auf ein Innenhof hatten,dafür ruhige Lage was uns auch sehr wichtig war.Zimmer bräuchten eine Renovation.Ideale Lage,mitten in der Stadt.Das Cafe im Hotel haben wir auch oft benutzt.Schade nur,dass es morgens erst um 08.00 öffnet.Wir werden das Hotel sehr gerne weiterem […] pfehlen. "Great Room on short notice"
I needed a room on short notice and found this room on Hotels.com. The front desk staff was very nice and ended up giving me a 2 room suitevin the top floor. All amenities were great and the room was extrememly clean. It is right outside the Cable car turn around and Union Square. I would stay here again.

"Good Location"
Very small room, but if you only want a place to sleep and will not be spending much time in your room, it will work for you. A lot of things to see within walking distance.

"Radiator from hell"
the radiator in our room clanged incessantly for an hour in the middle of the night. so loudly the people above us were stomping on the floor. i called the front desk, and they said there was no one here to fix it but it should stop soon. it did after an hour. 2 nights later, the same thing happened at 4am. i told them to get someone to fix it before […] i threw it out the window. they did, but only by turning it off. the temperature in our room dropped about 6-7 degrees, but it was worth being able to sleep. i will not be going back to this hotel. Two words.... Bed bugs!
Very convenient location, bit noisy,checking in very slow only 1 person on and nearly 1hour for them to get your car. Rooms are clean but beds are not so comfortable and long wait for hot water.
"The Powell in San Francisco"
The Powell is in a fantastic location, central to public transit and the downtown area. The staff were nice, but we didn't need them much. Drawbacks: The radiator hissed all night (I know that this is a given with these old oil radiators, I've had them in apartments...but having it right next to the bed made it hard to sleep). The toilet was finicky […] - you had to jiggle the handle to get it to stop running. The bed had a nice pillowtop but underneath was rock hard, so after two nights we had backaches. All in all, you get what you pay for and this was a bargain for being so centrally located. As someone who doesn't mind staying in hostels, the issues we had weren't overwhelming and I would happily book there again. Mehr

I found the Powell to be in a central location. Perfect for a tourist; however, the building seems to have no insulation/noise protection. It is located in a very busy section of Union Square, and we could hear absolutely everything outside (from fire alarms to people talking). "The Powell Hotel - convenient location"
Dont expect any jazz from this hotel other than its located conveniently near the mall and the public transportation. Happy hour was pretty awesome but other than that it was just a place to wash up and sleep.

I read all of the reviews before booking so I knew it was going to be loud. It really wasn't as bad as I was expecting. "3 R's: Rude, Roaches and Rugged"
upon checkin the front desk was not friendly while trying to manage valet and check in. there were too many cars/people checking in, no valet attendant and on a busy street. i was reluctant to leave my car unattended in union square area because parking enforcement is on their job at all times. the first room was unimpressive with low rent upgrades, […] but the kicker was the crusty food stain on the comforter which made me question the cleanliness of the entire room. we asked to move to another room, that took forever, and then the second night in that room we found a visitor in the bathroom, ben. ben is the name i gave to this roach because he was about 2 inches long and therefore deserved to be addressed respectfully. RIght above the cable car stop on Market (which means it was noisy with the window open) this old hotel is still stylish and certainly convenient. The bed was comfortable. The room and bathroom small (like an old city hotel) but clean. In my room there was a problem with the radiator which meant it was very hot in the room and with the window open to […] let in cool air it was very noisy even into the late night. The "continental breakfast" that I was cheerfully offered was just sweet buns - not really breakfast food. In-room coffee would have been better. Mehr

If you're looking for a City hotel that is RIGHT AT SF Center, the Powell Street turntable, and all of Market Street, this is the place. Old school "salesmen's hotel" with small rooms, but you're not going to SF to hang in your hotel, are ya'? Thin walls, small rooms, perfect location. Your call, but I'd stay there again.

The best part about our stay at this hotel was the location. Right on the corner at the Cable Car turnaround on Powell. It doesn't get better for ease of use of the transit system for San Francisco. The hotel itself, though boasting a recent update was anything but. The room was anything but updated, the bed uncomfortable and cover in a plastic mattress […] pad, the radiator heat, though charming, was difficult to gauge and we were either very very hot of too cold. The view from our 4th floor room was a walled building and the bathroom ceiling full of mold. I had a huge problem with allergies while staying there.
