The Highlander Inn - Manchester

The airport in Manchester, NH is expanding and has taken over the land that the Highlander Hotel occupies. As a result, this hotel has just closed. We did not realize that the hotel was going out of business when we booked our reservations several months ago. Hotels.com was fantastic! I was contacted two weeks prior to our trip with an EMAIL from Hotels.com […] alerting me that this hotel was closing and that Hotels.com went ahead and re-booked us at a nearby hotel. They welcomed me to call them for an explanation and requested my OK on the rebooking. Our experiences at the new hotel (which was a Marriott property) were fantastic. The hotel was very nice and located right where we needed it to be. Hotels.com did a great job representing us and we are grateful! Mehr

This was a very nice, convenient hotel located right at MHT airport. Unfortunately, they will be closing at the end of Dec 2011. This is what the front desk told me. They were bought out by the airport to make room for more parking. Sad way to end a business.

I will miss the convinience of driving in the night before an early morning flight and being able to park at the hotel.

Stay there every time I come to town. Used to walk from the old airport. Quite a history in this old Victorian with the sun room overlooking Black Eyed Susans, impatience, roses and the last flowers of summer. Only to find out they are closing in Dec. and it will become a parking lot!!!!! Must be a CHANGE, do ya think? Such a nice breakfast was offered. […] Desk open all night, Large rooms with drapes and oversized bathrooms and they call this progress! Sad. Wonderful staff. Mehr

Nice place to stay and easy to get to the track.... would stay there again..

We stayed here on a recent trip to NH, mostly because they were pet friendly. We had a wonderful experience and they were so accomodating to us. Would totally stay here again!

It is not a bad place overall, but it is run down. The mattresses feel like boards. Lots of burnt out bulbs. The tub drain was clogged. The worst thing of all is that the free Wi-Fi frequently slowed to near dial-up speeds. That is not acceptable for a business traveler.

An excellent value in a hotel room. The Highlander is located just 1/2 mile from the Manchester airport so it very convenient for travelers arriving or departing MHT. The room was clean, and the furnishings are very comfortable. The atmosphere is similar to a Bed & Breakfast, nestled in amongst the trees and you'd never know that you're so close to […] a major airport. Our room was nice and the hotel was generally in good condition. The site was relatively complex -- with several buildings on it - and coming in at night, the signage about where to go to find the right building, not to mention the front desk, was confusing. The only other problem we had was in the morning when there we were awakened by loud conversations […] in the hall and music playing from adjoining rooms. Nothing fancy, but very clean and comfortable, good value and a good sleep.

The Highlander Inn is a place very easy to find, has a great convenient location, spacious quiet rooms, free internet, prefect service, wonderful breakfast and lots of options for dinner. There is a romantic old-fashioned style in it. We stayed there for a night before our flight. Our 3-year old son is very active and he was stuck in a car seat for […] 6 hour before our stay and was going to fly three more hours the next day. We needed a clean, quiet place to sleep and an area to run freely before the next-day flight. The Highlander Inn gave us all that and more. We felt home and every our need was met by the friendly and very helpful staff in timely and professional manner. The area around The Highlander Inn looks like a nice green park with lots of flowers and tall trees and gives the feeling of an expensive resort it the woods. At the same time it is actually by the airport. We could see the airplanes taking off and landing, but it was never noisy. We actually slept with one of our windows open. After a great breakfast we took a nice long walk around the hotel and left for our flight. The staff is nice, professional, and helpful and it is obvious that each one of them loves their job. It is sad that, according to the new owners’ plan, in a few months The Highlander Inn will cease to function and all these people will have to search for another employer. The rooms at the Highlander are like someone's guest room or a B&B. I've stayed here many times and will stay again. The rooms, the staff, the entire Inn is just wonderful. The staff is very friendly and go above and beyond the call of duty. 5 Star rating from me!

I was extremely disappointed with my stay and gland I had only booked for 1 night! The hotel needs a complete remodel. The carpets are deeply stained and worn, especially immediately noticeable when you enter the lobby. Interior décor is dated and worn and the walls and have chips. There is no sound barrier between adjoining rooms or flours; I could […] guest in the next room cough and every step of the guest above me. The toiletries were minimal and of poor quality. The computer room is dingy with just a computer and printer. The printer was low on ink and they was only about 10 sheets of paper available in the printer; not extra printer paper, note paper, pens, pencils, stapler or tape. All the staff was were very professional, welcoming and pleasant. Housekeeping does try to clean, but given how worn and deeply stained everything is, they have an impossible task. Given the choice of many lodging options, one would think the owners would do a better job with basic maintenance of the property. Mehr

I suspect airport convenience and business conference facilities are the primary drawing points for this hotel. Its setting is quite lovely despite sitting right next to the airport. The rooms are nice enough but not superior and, although pets are allowed, guests are given a long list of restrictions before they are allowed to stay. For instance, pets […] may not sit on the beds or the furniture. There is no restaurant so guests must drive to find food. But, the staff is friendly and accommodating and it would be a good place for a business conference. Mehr

We only stayed one night but I feel like it was worth the money. Very clean and comfortable, spacious room. Little to no noise and very convenient to the airport... literally a 1 minute drive.

Would definitely stay here again. Close to the airport and to town. The staff was knowledgeable about the area.

The hotel is basically next to the airport and easy to find. Comforting cozy place. Actually nicer than I expected. Would stay again if in the area.

My son's plane came in after 11pm but I didn't have to worry...there's 24hr airport transport...they stayed awake to meet the plane for me!!

We arrived late at night, the shuttle came within minutes of us calling. Although the hotel is right near the airport it was quiet and we were able to have a nice rest before beginning our New England adventures. Staff was friendly and the hotel is in good shape.

It's a good hotel considering its price and location. It looked new and well maintained, and seems to mainly target business travelers (close to airport). There is no swimming pool, and the gym room is very small. Their continental breakfast is not continental as understood elsewhere. It's just an OK simple breakfast with the basic offering. The only […] negative remark is: they reqest by writing that we will not smoke in the room (we're non-smokers anyway) but when we got in the rooms they smelled cigarets! Mehr

Two people at check in, one very pleasant, one rude. Hotel was clean but worn. Quiet rooms. Poor TV reception. Terrible breakfast!! Food was not very fresh, very poor selection, even the furniture was unappealing! The buffet table was chipped and dirty, all silverware was dirty, not just water spotted.

I was so impressed with this hotel - particularly the little details. Even though it is billed as a conference center, they did a great job for a family stay as well. They had games, books, and puzzles that were appropriate for my young children. They acommodated us when we arrived and asked to check in early. The breakfast opened at 6, which was great […] when my infant woke up at 5:45 and I needed to get out of the room to let everyone else sleep. Overall, I would definitely return! Mehr

The hotel is tucked next to the local airport off the main road. Staff is very attentive, acommodating and understanding. I would recommend this hotel.

Good place to stay. It is a very old hotel, but well kept and clean. It is very close to the airport and the staff was very friendly.I would recommend this hotel

The hotel has not been updated. It looks very worn and almost dirty. We stayed years ago and remembered the stay as very pleasant. We were quite disappointed in the cleanliness and overall appearance of the hotel. However the staff was very pleasant and accomodating. Noise is a problem as the front desk called to report we were making too much noise […] although my husband and I were in bed watching TV. The continental breakfast was more than adequate and the shuttle to airport was quick and efficient. Over all the stay was OK considering we were near the airport and the cost was quite reasonable. Very welcoming staff. Nice hotel. Nearly at the airport but never had any issues with airplane noise. Very comfortable beds.

The room was very pleasant and clean and the beds very comfortable. Didn't hear any outside noise so got a good night's sleep. Staff were all friendly and helpful. 4.3 miles to the airport and the 24/7 shuttle service is a big plus. Called when we arrived at the airport and the shuttle was there within 10 minutes or less. It was a nice experience to stay at Highlander Inn during our family trip. It was clean and spacious. We felt very comfortable for the price we paid.

I realized why this hotel is so run-down. The Manchester Airport has bought it and it is closing at the end of 2011. So... no recent updates have happened because of the impending tear-down. The bedding, carpet, and bathrooms are quite gross. Maybe it is clean but I couldn't tell because everything was threadbare and stained. The hotel was convenient to the airport, especially when you come in late. The hotel shuttle service was excellent. The driver was courteous and on time arriving and leaving. The front desk personnel were nice. The hotel itself could use a little bit of upgrading. There is room for improvement in their continental breakfast. The bread was a little staled. […] The elevator did not work at checkout so we had to schlep our bags down 3 flights of stairs even though we could have waited for them to send someone up to help. Hotel is very close to airport. Hotel staff was very helpful in directing me to restaurant and other locations on my itinerary. I'd stay here again.

The location of this hotel is outstanding. The hotel driveway is at the entrance to the airport. This makes for some aircraft noise during the day, but it was much better at night. The staff was excellent printed our boarding passes for our flights and was very helpful in every way possible, I always enjoy staying at this hotel before a flight comfortable and great service easy parking while you are on a trip.
