We loved our stay and enjoyed the surrounding activities like outlets, flower field and Legoland. We decided to take the Amtrak so Carlsbad by the Sea was the perfect central point for us. Since we didn't rent a car the hotel was happy to shuttle us to Legoland and in the end were kind enough to hold our bags since we still wanted to hang out after […] checkout. great location. lack of customer service. stayed for 3 nights. one day our room was not cleaned and staff not accountable for mistake. good price; however, was promised a military discount I never recieved - staff again took no accountability. will not stay at this hotel again.

we stayed for 4 nights and the room was ok, kindda old and needs updating and its the same breakfast every single day! but the location was awesome, you can walk to restaurants and shopping, the flower fields are just there too... so, not a bad trade for the so so room and breakfast...

We only stayed for 1 night and that night the toilet broke. Called the front desk. The janitor came over but he couldn't fix it. The problem has to wait for the head engineer to come in the next morning :-( The water kept running all night then it got spilled all over the floor. I had to turn off the water completely. We had to use the bathroom in the […] front desk. Walking distance is quite far away. It's very inconvenient. In the morning, I complained to the front desk and they ended up giving me the voucher to Ruby's for a free lunch, but we had to leave in the morning. The voucher is only good for 1 day. It wasn't a pleasant stay at this hotel. We won't come back for sure. Mehr

We came here to visit family in Carlsbad and to visit Sea World. For us, the location was perfect. We were 5 minutes away from our family and about 30 minutes from Sea World. We were also about 5 minutes or less from the beach....beautiful, clean beaches and lots of little shops and places to eat. The hotel itself is across the street from an outdoor […] outlet mall...a little bit more commericalized of a location, but the hotel courtyard and pool area are a great escape. The room was clean. Great customer service. Hotel grounds are beautiful. Pool and hot tub are nice. The included breakfast was wonderful. Great location. Rooms are updated and cozy. Thin walls = a little noisy, but what hotel isn't? We had a wonderful romantic getaway and enjoyed walking to all the shops and restaurants close by.

Other then them mistake of guests name under my room and the possibilty of the charging me twice that was resolved the hotel is great

Carlsbad by the Sea is a nice hotel, in a good location close to local attractions. However, it was not as clean or as well maintained as I would have expected from the term "Resort" in the title. Also, nothing puts a damper on the day like finding a dead rodent floating in the filter for the hot tub, and then seeing the staff simply scoop it out and […] walk away with no attempt to close the tub or clean the water. I find soaking in rodent soup to be very relaxing myself. Mehr

We stayed their for 4 nights to visit the Legoland and see enjoy the warm weather. The hotel was great - quick check-in, easy check-out. Rooms are cleaned every day. A very convenient shuttle to Legoland, though we never used it as Legoland is only 10 minutes walk. The hotel is very close to the Carlsbad Premium outlets, though not too impressive, in […] my humble opinion. What we would like to see is some changes in the breakfast. It is good but it is the same every single day - fried eggs with cheese, cereals, bread, tea and coffee. It is a minor complaint, as it is included in the room rate and you do not look the gifted horse in the mouth. Plus free high-speed internet and free car parking. Strongly recommend to everyone looking for a hotel in the area. Mehr

Location is key - close to Legoland, premium outlets and restaurants. Rooms are clean and neat. One downside, no wifi in rooms.

Equipment is nice. +The Pool & Hot Tub area is very nice. -The laundry facilities has no change machine. -Staff are not welcoming or friendly. This place was much nicer than I had expected. It is a motel, however each room has a balcony that faces a quaint courtyard with swimming pool. The rooms are great. Quiet, very clean & modern. We really enjoyed our stay at Carlsbad by the sea resort. We loved the balcony and the pool. Close to the beach and big comfortable bed. The pillows were awesome! Price was great and perfect location to see flower gardens, going to the beach, the mall, and the sites around Carlsbad. We will definately stay here again. Thanks!

Location was super easy to find - just look for the windmill! Pros: decent rate, close to high-end outlet mall and Legoland, which was the reason for our visit. Large and comfortable rooms, nice shower head and balcony. Love that the vanity/sink are separate from the toilet/shower which makes getting ready much easier for our family of 4. Breakfast […] buffet is nice and in a cute Lanai style space. Cons: Pool was ok - read that it was heated but was actually very cold. Also realized the pool towels were all used/dirty AFTER we got in the water and had to wait 15 minutes for fresh towels to be delivered to the pool area. Mehr

The breakfast served is almost the same everyday. Customer service or receptionist does not seem to appreciate customers. I called just to confirm our reservation, he responded,"Can you call back later becauase Im busy right now??" What a way to help cuatomers!!!!

Overall excellent, highway sound a bit annoying, I wonder why they haven't done any mitigation that can be very simple.

This place was really nice, it was clean and comfortable. My boyfriend and I had an awesome getaway for the weekend. It was convenient that it was footsteps away from the Carlsbad Premium Outlets and many many food places as well. The only negative to this weekend was the weather, otherwise I can't wait to go back! :)

I would not want to stay at this hotel again that's for sure.

We stayed here for 10 nights and the kids loved it. The pool was heated so it even entertained in cooler weather. The hot tub was lovely and converstions with other travellers resulted in many valuable tips for the area. The hotel/resort is loder , but very well kept and they were quick to remedy any problem. The breakfast (included) was plentiiful […] and nutritious, if unvarying. We would have welcomed the opportunity to use the baronical breakfast room for card games etc in inclement weather. The gardens were lovely and we felt like we a were in ht emiddle of a resort. Laundry room was resonably priced and the machines did loads for a $1.25. Maid service was reliable and good. We were surrounded by excellent resraurants and very happy with the whole experience Mehr

recently stayed at Carlsbad by the Sea, along with my son and grandson. We were there to visit Leggoland. The hotel was so close and the shuttle was really great and on time and the driver helpful and friendly! We had breakfast there and enjoyed the spa and pool. Would definately recommend this hotel.

awesome hotel, free breakfast eggs,sausage,fruits,cereal,orange juice. very convenient location near all the best restaurant, and the premium outlet store is walking distance.Plus plus plus the parking is very convenient to your room so when you forget something in the car, its just a walk by. The hotel is also adjacent to TGI Friday's, awesome Steak […] and the sweet fries is very delicious. this hotel is 2thumbs up and we will go back here. Mehr

We were pleased to see that this property has been given a face lift. The room was upgraded & much nicer than our visit 3 years ago. The property is very nice now. Be ready for kids everywhere. Great for families, not so good for my husband and I. We were sandwiched between two families. Lots of running, crying & door slamming.

If you are going to Carlsbad to visit Legoland I would recommend Carlsbad by the Sea. Legoland is within walking distance, less than a mile. The rooms have recently been refurbished and are very clean. Not the biggest rooms you will see in a hotel; however, they are nice. No direct access to the beach without driving about two miles due to being on […] the East side of the Freeway. Overall a pretty nice place. Mehr

We are retired and were visiting relatives in Carlsbad. This location was within five miles of their home, which allowed us to spend time with them, then drive back the short distance without their fearing we could not safely get back to our hotel. It was so nice not to have to drive on freeways in four lanes of traffic every time we went somewhere. […] Also, there are many restaurants within walking distance and outlet shopping is across the street. The hotel is in an excellent location within walking distance of outlet stores and numerous restaurants. The low price, free parking and free breakfast make the hotel a bargain. A quiet beach is a 2 minute drive (or a good walk) away. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The shuttle is complimentary and will take you just about anywhere, including […] Legoland. The only issue was the dirty floors. We couldn't walk barefoot in the room without getting black feet. Normally, I would give a very low rating, but everything else was so great. Just need to do a much better job cleaning the floors and this would be a five star rating. I'm not too picky so I would stay there again, but I will continue to complain until the floors are nice and clean. Mehr

I suppose I should have known better not to stay so close to Legoland when traveling for work. It was impossible to find a table for breakfast amongst all the families with small kids. We enjoyed our stay very much. We had a lovely view from our balcony and the beds were quite comfortable. The breakfast buffet was quite complete including hot and cold items. We would definitely stay here again.

Great place for families visiting the beach and Legoland. Location can't be beat.
