Makena Beach and Golf Resort - Wailea (Maui)

Wir waren vor ca. 20 Jahren schon einmal im Makena Beach, damals allerdings unter dem Namen Maui Prince und waren auch dieses mal sehr zufrieden. Es ist vor ca. einem Jahr renoviert worden und wir waren mit unserem Zimmer sehr zufrieden. Das Hotel hat den Charme, dass es das letzte Hotel an der Südwestecke der Insel ist und drumherum glücklicherweise […] wenig Bebauung besteht. Es hat nur 4 Stockwerke und paßt sich somit gut in die Landschaft ein. Der Strand vor dem Hotel ist sehr schön, das Wasser angenehm. Wir würden auf jeden Fall wieder hingehen. Mehr

Sehr freundliches Personal, leider beim Fruehstueck lange Wartezeiten wirkte etwas unorganisiert. Parking gratis sogar Valet parking. Golfplatz hat einen super Service zu einem sehr guten Preis und dies ohne Resort Gebuehren, im Gegensatz zu anderen Hotels auf der Insel welche die Gebuehr und Parkplatz verrechnen. Very nice!

We had a great time with only one small exception. We saw pineapple ants on the counters of the bathroom and wet bar. The hotel spayed and they were gone for 2 day but came back on the third. I wish housekeeping would have kept up with this as it kind of took the bloom of the rose. Other than this service, bed view ,beach and other amenities all great. […] Especially buffet breakfast. This resort is a great place to stay for the price. Our stay included complimentary buffet breakfast, no resort fee, free parking, a very decent fitness center and a private beach. The staff were friedly and rooms were clean. I would definitely return to this resort.

We spent our honeymoon at this excellent hotel. Features which attracted us to the hotel were its included breakfast, free valet parking, concierge which helped us with booking all of our activities, and ocean view. These were found at a lower price than the competitors in Wailea. The downsides were an advertised sushi dinner which was not very satisfactory, […] and poor dining options for lunch and dinner. The nearest dining options are at least a 10 minute drive away, so you have to plan ahead. Nevertheless, we enjoyed ourselves tremendously. Facilities are very nice and staff excellent. The only comment that i will make is that prices are high and restaurant food needs improvement.

We stayed at Makena for about a week and I must say that it was one of the best times we've ever spent.. The hotel location is super cool. Even if you get a room with partial ocean view, you won't be disappointed... The quality of complimentary breakfast is just astounding.. The staff is super friendly.. Beautiful Hotel.

I loved the location of the Makena Beach and Golf Resort. It's on a beautiful quiet beach and it's right near several other great beaches in a beautiful neighborhood. The morning breakfast buffet was fabulous. The bed was extremely comfortable, and it was wonderful hearing the ocean right outside our window. There are beautiful gardens in the atrium […] and on the grounds outside. Cons are that some of the decor is a bit outdated. The size of our room was also fairly small. staff is great...Pool so so ...Beach is great...Hotel is some what isolated........course has fast greens and is a challenge...great views...kudos to the staff This is not the Grand Wailea but nice.

We had the most relaxing vacation surrounded by the most helpful staff. I was traveling with my 94 year old Mother-In-Law, and she was treated like a queen. Thank You.

Hotel had wonderful service. The area surrounding the resort was spectacular. The state park is beautiful and you feel very secluded at this location. We were there 20= years ago for our honeymoon. We booked a PREMIER OCEANVIEW in "newly renovated resort" Our room was nearly as far away from the beach as it could be. The hotel is in the MIDDLE of being renovated. Much of the Maui Prince is still the focus of this resort....the rooms are very outdated and the bathrooms YIKES!!!!!! The staff was very pleasant. Exceptional hotel. Secluded location, yet very accessible to main highway. Great staff, room, views, ammenities, breakfast buffet, attached beach, and the list goes on and on.....

This is a wonderful place for those of you who want to get away from the commercialized feel of Maui. Nice facilities, falling asleep to the sound of the waves, good beach, free valet, good gym and a nice breakfast buffet. The resort is very close to the Big Beach or Makena, you can walk there in 10-15 mins or drive in 2. Just remember to take what […] you will need for the day as there is nothing there to buy/rent. I would recomment this resort to newlyweds, families with kids over 5 and older adults. It was a bit too quiet for us as a couple in our early 40s, but it was a great change from Kan'napalli. The whales made their annual appearance throughout our stay, we watched them from the beach...awesome! Check it out, it was a hidden gem. Mehr

We were not impressed with this hotel. The beach on the property is outstanding, however, the pool is old, small and does not have a heater. The wait service is really bad; it was almost as if they had just grabbed random people off the street and told them to fill in as waiters/waitresses. The restaurants on the property are really poor; food preparation […] is lousy and menus are very limited. This was a very disappointing hotel. Unless you plan on using their great beach and then getting out of their by car each night to eat out someplace, we would NOT recommend staying here. They need a major overhaul of the property. Mehr

Started out with a bellman gawking at the $1 tip (ATM was out for 24 hours and no cash available), but then the front desk staff took over and they were wonderful. The dog on the propery is cute, and once the bell staff was properly tipped, they were nice. Retraining the bell staff would be helpful. Scuba instructor was excellent, restaurant foot was […] good. Servers were hit or miss. More of a training issue again. Still, I would stay again and I like the resort, and the reef right offshore. Very attentive lifeguard. I will recommend to friends and stay again in the future. It's a work in progress but management of bell staff and servers is needed. Mehr

Our family loved this resort! Our oceanfront room afforded a stunning view of the hotels beach and we fell asleep to the sound of waves. We were awakened by the happy chattering of Minah birds. On the way to a generous breakfast buffet we were greeted by the numerous koi fish in the atrium who swam up when they saw us. A wild heron stood still as a […] statue in his pursuit of the smaller fish. The beach is separated from others by lava rock on either end so it feels very private. There were but a few people and the snorkeling was wonderful. We were fortunate to be joined by a giant sea turtle who stayed close to us and seemed to enjoy our company. On the second day we headed down to the beach at 6am and boarded a catamaran for Molokini. We tried Snuba and the kids liked it so much that when we returned to the hotel we arranged for scuba lessons. Our hotel appointed instructor was great and in no time we entered the ocean right from our beach and immediately found a turtle resting in the coral beneath us. The staff was so friendly and accommodating that we felt very welcomed. We will definitely return to this hotel. Mehr

We were not expecting such a beautiful room with all of the amenities for the price we were offered. We received free buffet breakfast along with our suite. The breakfast alone was superb. So many choices! We loved our room with our partial -ocean -view. The bathrooms and personal areas were huge and luxurious. Would definitely stay here again.

A comfortable, quiet, friendly place to stay, right on its own beach, with snorkelling over coral available right off the beach. The hotel restaurant is adequate but fairly basic. However, there is a free shuttle from the hotel to Wailea Shops (about 4 miles away) where there are several excellent restaurants.

Undergoing some needed renovation, the hotel was nonetheless a relaxing, stylish haven on a beautiful Makena beach. The staff is pleasant and welcoming. Dinner at the Grille was excellent. Common areas are spacious and understated. We enjoyed our stay.

Great hotel and beach. Very quiet and peaceful. if you need shopping the hectic pace and Disneyland feel, Wailea is just 5 minutes north. Also the golf course at Makena was in great shape and I didn't feel like I was playing in someones front yard. The service was great at the hotel and the golf course. I would highly recommend this resort.

The hotel was under renovation so it was a bit noicy but it was usually peaceful quiet and relaxing. We want to go back as soon as possible.

The Hotel is the old Maui Prince and is currently undergoing renovations for the rooms. We had an Ocean front room which has been remodeled and it was spacious and clean. The Lanai was very comfortable with spectacular sunset views. It is the last resort on the south east side of Maui and is pretty secluded. If you're looking for more things to do,or […] a lot more activeyou would need to drive a few miles to the shopping center or to the nearby town Kihei, or pick a hotel on the western side. The staff was exceptionally friendly and the food was good in the restaurants albeit pricey. The pool isn't very large but does have a smaller kiddie pool next to it. The beach is fabulous but not directly owned by the hotel. Lounge chairs are available though for the guests. There is also an adventure booth adjacent to the beach for renting snorkels, paddleboards, etc and for arranging cruises on the catamaran that beaches there. We were not disturbed by noise for the ongoing room renovations that were down the hall. We plan on returning. Mehr

We just needed an extra days stay in Maui and our primary hotel couldn't accommodate. We were very happy at Makena.

We chose this hotel because we went on an excellent snorkel trip to Molokini on board the Kai Kanani II (the only boat that leaves Maui island this close to Molokini, and departs from the hotel grounds) but the swimming pool was under construction without warning. Property is large and pretty nice, but hardly worth the price tag. Even when the pool […] is finished, it's not very impressive at all. Shop around. Mehr

Stayed on three of then islands duringnour vacation and Maui was by far our favorite, in large part due to the wonderful amenities at this hotel. The beach was terrific and offered personal "beach" service such as drinks, chairs, activities, etc. My son took a scuba lesson right from the beach and the snorkel experience was wonderful too. The grounds […] were exactly what you would expect Hawaii to be. While the rooms were dated, they were large and are in the process of a complete refurbish. Off the beaten track from town, however, this was our preference and we were not disappointed. Highly recommend! Mehr

Clean, courteous, quiet, gay friendly and 1 mile from the nude beach ! Everything we needed. They are upgrading the exterior with plans to expand pool area and update rooms. We had a great experience. You will need a rental car as it is isolated, a plus for us.

We booked this room on very short notice after checking out of a different lodging due to bugs/cleanliness. The Makena facility was a welcome relief. Other reviews commented on it needing updating, but we saw little of concern. Very comfortable, friendly staff. One concern was the extra "resort fee" of $25 per night, which supposedly paid for a package […] of popular services. It included free phone calls, but now that we have cell phones without roaming charges, that is not much of a perk. And it did NOT cover in-room internet service. So it wound up seeming like one more charge. The other irksome moment was trying to get into Zen-Zen, one of their restaurants. We did not have a reservation. We showed up, and it took five minutes before the receptionist came out to greet us--and then only because another employee went in to get her. She then announced that we would have to wait half an hour to get in--though there were a bunch of empty tables. So we left and did not go back. Otherwise--a very pleasant stay. Mehr

The Makena Beach & Golf Reosrt is a beautiful hotel, but the hotel needs to be upgraded. Other than that staying at the resort is beautiful & relaxing. The service is great and everyone is so helpful. I would recommend this hotel to my family & friends, especially if you're planning a wedding there or just want to golf!

Wow, what a nightmare! I sat down for dinner and ordered some sushi and after 45 minutes I said thats enough! I realized this place is on the verge of bankruptcy so they were completely under staffed. I checked out the next morning. If this is the only place you can stay in Maui then stay home. Nightmare!!!!!

More relaxed and low-key than its ritzy neighbors - and therefore has its own charm. Oceanfront room view was incredible! Beautiful courtyard with waterfalls and coy ponds, easy beach access. Main restaurant was mediocre - but there are other choices nearby. We would definitely stay here again!

My wife and I celibrated our 25th anniversary at your hotel and were very happy with our stay. The service, the food, upkeep, the grounds, the view, but especally the birds. We will always remember the beautiful singing and sounds of the surf in the mornings. Thank you

The hotel is in ownership limbo. Whoever purchases it has a project on their hands to update and renovate it to the potential it has. To me, currently it's a 3 star hotel, that has 4+ star potential - especially with the location and being assocaiated with that incrediable golf course. Although the hotel had just changed management the thursday before we arrived and the hotel was very empty. We throughly enjoyed our stay. The property is still beautiful and with just alittle TLC could be outstanding. So when we were following the road we drove past […] it not realizing this. We finally turned around and pulled in to ask and were pleasantly surprised when they explaned the change. The staff was quick and eager to get our bags out of the car while we checked in. Check in was very fast and efficient. They were very prompt at getting our stuff up to the room. The first thing you notice is the incredible view. So many palm trees, the beach and you can see the pool and hot tubs. From our lanai you can see the sun set over the water. After we got settled in and had a drink we explored the place. It's amazing here, to say the least. In the middle of the hotel there is a small nature walk, waterfall and ponds with Koi fish. You can even try to catch the little frogs that are hanging around. There are so many flowers on the grounds that just add to the beauty which Hawaii is known for. The place has great staff, they are very friendly and open and go out of their way to make sure your needs are met, even exceeded. The beach is perfect, it's not shared like many of the other resorts that are more expensive & right down from here. This place is sort of on it's own ensuring more privacy than many others in the area. Our first night we ate at the resteraunt in the hotel. We were looking over the menu and we both joked how we wanted more poke. We decided to ask the waiter if there was any, to which he replied that the place next door had some and that he could walk over to see if they would let us order it and eat it at the resteraunt. As you can see by most of the reviews this hotel needs a update. If you can overlook the ago of the hotel this place is a great deal! if you were to stay for a week you will save thousands over other close by resorts. if you have the money and you want a big flashy resort than I suggest you go down the street to the others. decor and condition need to be updated - very old... very unhappy with room classification - i booked oceanview room, but the view of the ocean can only be seen if you stand on one side of the balcony. i was very disappointed and vented this to the front desk personnel who explained the hotel's classification and allowed me to change to their oceanfront […] room. the front desk personnel was very courteous and patient with excellent customer service. the change in room for a better view was much better, but unfortunately the room design and decor were the same - quite old...
