Ok is a fair comment. Room service was disappointing with a lack of options and poor service I'm afraid. Staff were pleasant and always helpful but they seemed short staffed throughout. Breakfast was good but the poor room service put us off using the main restaurant. Overall a good stay and ok hotel. Centrally located and so very convenient. Generally comfortable, shame there was not bath in the bathroom, but this maybe just the room we had. Friendly staff, good service.

The hotel was central Chester and couldn't be any more perfect for location. The service from the hotel was excellent. It was my birthday during my stay and between the hotel and my partner they arranged a meal in a lovely Italian restaurant and some flowers in my room on arrival.

Our group had two rooms. The room at the back of the hotel was small but okay. The room at the front was larger, with room to sit down, but faced onto a street which had several night clubs. The noise was incredible, with huge numbers of revellers out on the street all night until 5am. Sleep was impossible. Could not have been better. Hotel is bang in the centre, shuttle bus from railway station stops almost opposite. Great breakfast.

This hotel is right in the centre of Chester. The staff were friendly and helpful and the rooms very comfortable (apart from being rather warm and no air conditioning available).

We booked this at the last minute for a bank holiday treat and found most hotels fully booked. Had a problem with the door key not working which eventually was reprogrammed by very helpful staff. The room was a cosy size and bed very comfortable. Bathroom floor was dirty, shower very poor with a poor flushing toilet. The location of the hotel was excellent […] and the reception area very nice but the corridors very tired looking. We didn't eat there as there are so many places in Chester. Wouldn't stay there again as we know there are hotels in a better condition for the same price including breakfast but were not available at the last minute. Mehr

very nice, even the weather was good for us.lots to see and photo. busy in areas but nice and quiet in the parks. food was good in the hotel, lots of choice of other food outlets. husband enjoyed the full english breakfast. a very nice stay.

Receptionists were very helpful on arrival and were happy to keep our cases until we could check in later in the day. Small screen tv in room with a very snowy picture, virtually impossible to watch. Needed to use both mac laptop and iPad but only cable Internet available in room and that did not work for first 36 hours we were there. Obviously could […] not use iPad at all. Very dissapointed that in this age of technology wire free broadband was not provided in rooms foc. Room was not cleaned or tidied although we were there 2 nights so no clean towels and no top up of tea/coffee etc. Public areas of hotel fine but distinct shortage of staff about. Bathroom was so small it was claustrophobic and lift impossible to use as only coffin size and gave me a panic attack as was so tiny. Overall quite dissapointed in this for a 4 star town centre hotel. Mehr

The hotel was beautiful, comfortable and convenient. Our room was very nice and a little bit larger than in some European hotels. Bed, pillows and linens were all very nice. We were on the 4th floor and hotel had an elevator - although small. I was puzzled by some reviews that said that the pictures of the entry did not look like the hotel at this location […] - but the picture of this hotel on this website is the hotel front door. We were just around the corner from the clock tower gate of the Roman wall and the main shopping and dining streets. The large bathroom even included a towel warmer - quite a nice touch. Staff were great - no issues. We had cream tea in the lobby one afternoon and their scones are probably the best scones that I've ever had - a cross between a traditional scone and shortbread - delicious - I wonder if they would share that recipe with me? I loved this hotel! Our breakfast was not included with the internet price. Mehr

I've stayed in the grosvenor down the road on a previous visit which was amazing. On this occasion we just needed a cheaper place to stay so decided to stay at the macdonald. Unfortunately we had to change the night of our stay so ended up paying almost the same price as a night at the 5 star grosvenor. The staff were a little rude. they didn't even […] tell us our room number and we had to repeat everything. The food was the same price as the brasserie down the road but not in the same league. The room was pokey and old fashioned but with a great bathroom which was odd. Overall disappointing. Mehr

The staff were excellent. The shower - you had to run around to get wet! The bar is small (but open to the restaurant) and uninviting. Parking arrangements are non-existent. Not a patch on the MacDonald Holyrood

Very central location but no car park, can park in the grovesner car park for £10 for 24hrs which is a public multistorey 5 min walk away. Lovely traditional features but modern hotel. Room small but everything there. A little noisy at night with passing people outside. Staff very nice.

Excellent location, although a little disappointed with the quality of our second room. However, I hope this was just an unfortunate stay and would like to stay here again. The problems encountered were taken very seriously by the hotel management and we have been offered a complimentary upgrade for our next visit.

The new blossom hotel is a lovely hotel with friendly staff. Our room was a little on the small side but still excellent value. It is within walking distance of all the main sights and shops. Overall I'd recommend this Hotel but there is a major issue with the Hotel facilities advertised. The reason I booked the Hotel was due to the advertised pool and picture attached to the website. On arrival at 8pm I was told that there is no pool and it is actually at their sister Hotel 15 minutes out of town. It was too late for me to move Hotel and […] not convenient to travel 15 minutes at this hour. The website needs to be changed asap as currently it is misrepresenting the Hotel. Mehr

Perfect location for a night out in Chester. Hotel is a very nice and oldy worldy. The room was comfortable and all facilty you would expect. Our particular room had a litle bit of damp in the corner but was not a problem. Bathroom was a little small and akward to get in and out of shower (due to size). The room was extremely warm, even with the heating turned off,but when we opened the window all we could smell were drains. The parking is very bizzare, you have to unload on a double yellow line then drive to a car park which is not clearly sign posted. The bed was tiny and well past its "Use by date". hotel was nice but when we go there after driving from Darlington we found that they never had a car park and we had to park our car 400 yards from the hotel plus we had to give £14.00 pounds to park the car over night and the next morning we found that you had to drive around the city to come back to pick your bags up so me and my wife had to carry […] our luggage all the way back to the car i can truly say we will not go back again to Chester yes the hotel NO Mehr

Booked 3 nights B&B accomodation at the hotel for the Christmas period 24/12 to 27/12. My husband and I were very pleased with accomodation and location but disappointed the restaurant was not open on Christmas Day. After several phone calls to restaurants in Chester, we finally found a restaurant which was open and could accomodate us. The hotel is in a fab location in Chester town centre. Chester itself is really quaint too. The hotel is a little tired. The water pressure on the 3rd floor rooms is awful so try for a lower floor if you like a decent shower. Breakfast was good.

We stayed over night in the hotel in order to break the journey between the Cotswolds and the ferry at Holyhead. The hotel is located right in the centre of Chester and is 100 m from the main shopping street. The river Dee, city walls, Roman ruins and cathederal are also close by. The staff were very helpful and friendly. There was also a plentyful […] breakfast served the next morning. It is an old style hotel with narrow corridors and steps but unless you are carrying large and heavy cases this is not a problem. Overnight parking is available in a nearby shopping centre close by for a reasonabe charge. The reception also offered us rooms at the rear of the hotel as it was a Monday night (student night in the city) and the street below the front of the hotel could be noisy. The only difficulty we had was finding the driving route in through the pedestrian zone to the hotel doorway. Once it was explained it was easy. Mehr

We parked in NCP car park 5 mins around corner from hotel (£11.50 for 3 days). Arrived at hotel to very pleasant & helpful staff & went straight to room 313 which was fabulous , large corner room and lovely sized bathroom and it was spotless with a lovely comfy bed . The location of the hotel was so convenient to everything , shopping , restaurants […] & bars ,the walls & the river !We thoroughly enjoyed our stay & will definately be back x Mehr

Overall great hotel. Stayed in room 209. Bathroom window was open by 6 inches which is unacceptable, particularly in winter.However despite repeated calls to reception (nobody answered) informing the maid who then went to reception on our behalf and finally speaking personally to reception at 6pm nothing was done to solve the problem. Living room window […] could not be opened so it was stuffy! Morning receptionist was excellent and offered us free breakfast and parking which was greatly appreciated. So great hotel overall but a simple problem marred our stay. Mehr

Hotel was fine, excellent location. Chester is a nice town. No aircon made it uncomfortable at night, but that is common with UK hotels. Graet night service guy who would help you with anythingh, even made sandwiches. Overall a good hotel at reasonable price.

on our arrival we were informed the lift was out of order ! our room was on the second floor. no car park, car park 10 mins walk away ( in the rain ) by the time we got back ther was nobody around to help with luggage. room a bit small. when cheking out I was charged again, despite insisting i had paid in advance !

Being a Macdonald hotel I was expecting exactly the opposite to what we got. On arrival, the lift was out of order and our room was on the second floor with heavy luggage to carry. There was no air conditioning in the room and as it was a front facing room during a heatwave we were unable to open the window due to excessive street noise. The room itself […] was small and the bathroom was minute. The shower screen was fixed which meant you had to physically get into the shower area to turn the shower on - I was expecting to get drenched in cold water but the water pressure was so low it barely trickled out. Es un hotel muy bueno y su localizacion es excelente, a 50 metros de la calle principal. El personal muy atento, nos cambiaron a una habitación mayor cuando lo pedimos. El desayuno inglés excelente. El único fallo es que no tiene parking propio.

Rooms are ok. The hotel is also situated in the middle of Chester. Close to all shopping and the famous citywall. BUT: We arrived at noon, and they told us the room was ready. But when we arrived at the room, it was full of garbage. We told them so, and they said that they would have it ready for normal checkin at 2 pm. But when we arrived at 4.30 pm, […] they were still cleaning it. Not impressed. In addition: When we left their systems hadnt picked up that we had a prepaid room through hotels.com, and we used something like 20-30 minutes waiting for them to check if it really was prepaid. Im not sure if they were just plain unlucky with us, but havnt experienced things like this in other hotels. If the room isnt ready, at least its ready for normal check in... And checkout for a pepaid room should be done in like 1 minute.. Mehr
