Holiday Inn Express San Diego Downtown - San Diego

The Holiday Inn Express sits up on a hill so there is a nice breeze from the bay overlooking west of downtown and the bay. This was a good choice location north of downtown away from the bars, clubs and traffic. Walking distance to the Gaslamp three blocks. Breakfast was comparable to any buffet breakfast for the price. I recently stayed at this Hotel on business. The location is 2 blocks from the Gas Lamp area wchich is great from restaurants and night life. The condition of the hotel was a bit of a mess because they were doing some construction in the halls but it wasn't a big deal. The rooms was very comfortable and clean with a balcany that over-looked the downtown […] area. My biggest issue was with the internet capability. Being there for business, I need high-speed internet but their's was more like dial-up. When I mentioned it on check-out, I was informed that they have a network box that would increase the speed. Why didn't thwy mention this when I checked in? Overall, I will stay there again but this time ask for the network box. Mehr

We had such a great stay in San Diego and at the Holiday Inn Express. The staff at the hotel were always available, and friendly. The hotel was close enough to all of the sites. Overall my stay was very nice. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfy even though the room was small. The highlights of the hotel were the friendly and helpful staff and the free hot breakfast. The hotel shuttled us from the cruise dock to the hotel and the next day from the hotel to the airport. We were dropped off at the back entrance to the hotel which led to some office buildings that share their elevators with the hotel. We were pleasantly surprised once we got to the hotel lobby and to our rooms. Off the lobby is a large patio which […] is well kept. The hotel was clean and the beds were comfortable. Four of us stayed in one room and we did find the bathroom a bit small. The staff was courteous and accomodating. The only draw back was the elevators were very slow. While a little "worn" around the edges, the front desk staff more than made up for that. Clean, very comfortable. When the shuttle wasn't running early enough in the morning to get me to the airport, they called a cab, and paid for it!

We had a one night stay at this hotel and we loved it. It is very nice considering the price. The only thing we didn't love was parking. It's so small in there, but this wasn't a big deal since we weren't going to sleep in the parking lot but in the room! Overall it was an awesome stay!

We had an excellent time in San Diego. The staff made the experience enjoyable. Continental breakfast was very good. Staff was very helpful in recommendations and getting us to and from events. Just a few things I see needs improvement: Water pressure was pitiful. Only one working elevator, very slow.

The Holiday inn is the place to be if going to San Diego. The staff is always there to guide you if your clueless of where to go. Plus there location is good because it 's cleane and right in the heart of San Diego.

Holiday Inn express, Downtown San Diego was confrtable, service was great. the Complimenatry breakfast could have been better. Parking lot was was very tight, difficult to manuever with a larger vehicle.

I've stayed at a lot of Holiday Inn Express hotels and have always been happy. To start, I didn't get the room I paid for (king suite). They said they were out, which is not acceptable because I paid extra to get that. When I did get to my room it felt old and grungy. It was a handicap room which I was also not happy with. We arrived a day early and the gentleman at front desk was so lovely at assisting us, that I knew this would be a quality hotel. The room was clean and attractive. It exceeded my very low expectations, which was a very nice surprise. The complimentary breakfast was also good, offering yogurts, boiled eggs, toast, muffins, cereals, bacon, biscuit & gravy […] etc. They also offered a complimentary shuttle bus that took us to the zoo...pretty good value! Went to the Padres game, lampgas district and was able to walk to everything. they also have a van that will take you to old town.

The hotel is in a convenient, although not particularly scenic area of downtown San Diego. Walking distance to many restaurants and shops. Affordable price and if you are looking for a clean, convenient budget hotel, this will fit. Although the hotel advertises free wi-fi, the signal was quite weak and my laptop was not able to stay consistently connected. […] However, they did have 3 computers in the lobby for guest use and they did not charge us to print a few pages from their computer. There is a small bar in the lobby area, and a nice looking pool outside. We did not have a car to park, but I'm not sure there was much in the way of parking for guests. Did not honor my reservation for a King room even though they informed me that they would have a King room for me if I waited several hours (which I did). The hotel is located in a part of town that seems to be somewhat "seedy" - plenty of bail bond stores in the block surrounding. Not enough elevators for both guests and staff. Several times housekeeping […] staff crowded onto the elevators with guests, including their large carts and bins filled with laundry. Would NEVER return. Mehr

the staff was very nice and the hotel was clean, however, it was clear they were understaffed for the comic con crowd. I tried to check in early, and I could not, when I finally checked in at 4pm, my room was in disarray and it wasn't the type of room I requested,. I then finally got my room, absolutely clean and no shower curtain. The hill it is on […] is also very steep and not a nice walk if you are walking to comic con. Also, they do not have shuttles, but there are some across the street. And the price was more expensive then the Omni hotel! Genearally I am usually satisfied with Holiday Inn chains, and I booked this because it was all that was available. If you can however, for comic con, I would avoid this hotel. Mehr

Our recent stay at Holiday Inn Express was so much better than we expected. We were looking for an inexpensive hotel in the Gaslamp district that had received good ratings and picked the Holiday Inn Express. The room was comfortable, the bike ride to and from the convention center was enjoyable, but the extras are what will bring us back--breakfast […] every morning, happy hour on weekday evenings, and warm cookies and milk! Location, room, overall service were fine, the complementary breakfast was excellent. Free Internet access in the room worked well. The crew was friendly, and helpful. The only cons were the loud A/C in the room and the parking fee ($16/night), but seems to be in S.D. there is no free parking... I would stay again.

Great staff, Very clean... they even made cookies for you at the front desk every night (awesome cookies). The area was scummy. I would not walk around at night at all and even didnt like being so close the the emergency exit (which was left open!!!?) If you are doing business and need to be that close to the downtown area then it is a decent hotel. […] If you are on vacation and looking for a resort or safer environment I dont suggest this hotel. Stay closer to the ocean or hotel circle. I love holiday inn but ill skip this one next time, maybe try one outside the downtown area. Mehr

The hotel was clean and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. It is very close the the Gaslamp Quarter and convienient if you are going to Petco Park or the San Diego Zoo. Would recommend this hotel.

This hotel far exceeded my expectations. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. The room had a great view overlooking the city. We were within walking distance of just about everything and the hotel offered a shuttle to the zoo,etc. I would definitely recommend this hotel and stay here again.

On the computer, the rooms and pool looked much bigger. There were only three lounges at the pool! The room seemed very cramped as well as the small elevators. The beed were comfortable....but we would have loved more elbow room.

This Hotel is older with nice upgraded rooms for the price. The breafast was great! The elevator is always busy and tends to be slow. The parking garage is very tight, large vehicles WILL have difficulty and will need to take extra care to make the sharp turns.

The Holiday Inn Express was a great hotel for the price you pay. Everything looked newly remodeled. The hotel is in a great location downtown and within walking distance to whatever you want to do.

This hotel offered great rooms and services for the money. The rooms have been nicely updated and were very clean. The hotel offers a free breakfast, free wireless internet, free parking, and a free shuttle to local attractions. Wow! The front desk staff at all shifts were very helpful with getting us checked in and making great suggestions for local […] restaurants. The hotel is great. We stayed for 5 days and would definitely stay there again. It is in a nice location and convenient to so much in the Downtown San Diego area and close to the highways. The rooms were very clean, comfortable beds, very clean bathrooms. We requested to be moved to a room with a balcony and view of the bay/marina. We were reassigned […] the next morning as soon as one was available. The staff was friendly and pleasant. Complimentary breakfast was available, which was nice. No charge for internet and the hotel has computers in the lobby connected to printers, which came in handy to print tickets and receipts for tourist attractions that we had prepaid. Been staying in different hotel on different occassions and I would say this one is great for the money (considering its pre "Comicon" dates). Rooms may not be as big as other hotels but two queen beds are comfortable enough for a couple and two kids. Room attendants are quick to replenish sundries and clean towels as well as clean the room. Complimentary […] breakfast is awesome. The only thing I would give other future guests a heads up to is the parking (not free, but is understandable since hotel is in the heart of San Diego) you have to be an experienced driver in order to get your way in and way out on the steep and compact driveway. Personnel were very friendly and were eager to be of service. The parking fee of $16 was reasonable for the area. A 30-45 minute walk to Gaslamp area and convention center; the same in the other direction to the excellent zoo and Balboa Park museums.
