Red Roof Inn Charlottesville - University of Virginia - Charlottesville

The staff was nice, the room and facilities were clean, and the location is superb - within walking distance of UVA, the downtown mall, and a number of great restaurants. My only complaint is that it was a very hot, humid day/night and even though we turned the fan on all the way, the room was still very warm and a bit uncomfortable to sleep in.

Very nice.

RRI Charlottesville was perfect for my needs. It was affordable, clean, modern and the location was perfect. It's literally across the street from campus, a three minute walk to the Rotunda. It's also right next to "The Corner," a one-to-three minute walk to restaurants, bars, delis, bagel store, etc. The hotel is about a 20 minute walk to the downtown […] walking mall, but we drove and found a spot easily. It was a five minute drive to the mall. This is where you want to be if the campus and "the corner" are the focus of your vacation. Mehr

Clean, comfortable room, personnel helpful

Location is excellent if you are visiting the University. We had requested a refrigerator but were unable to get one. The fan on the heating unit was fairly loud, but it didn't affect our sleep. The towels were pretty flimsy. We were only there for the night, and not in the room much so it was fine for us but I was little underwhelmed. The front desk […] staff were nice enough. It's right in the heart of UVA on "the corner" so it is extremely convenient if you are there for a UVA related visit. I think I overheard an employee tell another guest that they are planning to completely renovate the place in the Fall (of 2012). It could definitely use some updating. The Red Roof is in a great location, and at a very fair price. It is seriously outdated, but you get what you pay for. The keys are very strange, like a key to a locker, but that didn't affect my feelings about the hotel one way or the other. I did have an unfortunate experience with a staff upon check-in. I was sharing the room with a companion, who […] was present, and we were given one key. He politely asked for a second key, and she brusquely replied "yeah" and made no attempt at self-correction, and seemed annoyed. We then tried to use the second key, which, not surprisingly, didn't work. When we returned to the front desk to request a new key, she refused to get off a personal call to assist us. This Red Roof Inn is better than the few others I've stayed in...cleaner, better-kept, nice location, covered parking. The bed was well-worn and pretty soft for my tastes, but otherwise things were good. In-room coffee is a plus, as is walking distance to all the UVa "Corner" shops, restaurants, and activities. The Red Roof is a decent no-frills hotel. It was clean, the TV worked, and there's coffee in the lobby. Other than that, there aren't many amenities and there's nothing spectacular about it. If you want a roof over your head and a comfortable, clean bed, this is a great option. The location, however, is ideal if you're visiting UVA. It's on the Corner, […] with lots of restaurants and bars, there's free parking in the garage underneath, and it's about as close as you can be to Grounds. We were able to park, walk to dinner, walk to a bar, and walk back up to the hotel without worrying about safety or transportation. And a great price, too! Mehr

Staff was very nice and friendly and the hotel is much nicer than any other Red Roof Inn I've seen. Location is great but beware only one parking spot is available per room. You can't even purchase a second spot. However, I would absolutely stay here again.

The hotel was located in the UVA area, which was less then 1 block from where I needed to visit. The convenience of the hotel made my trip easier. I was impressed with the room. It was spacious and very clean. It also had a desk, which made using my laptop easier. Also, the hotel staff were friendly and helpful.

The location could not have been any better. Parking was accommidating (i have a large conversion van). Everything i needed was just steps away. All the locals were friendly and helpful. The staff was able to offer information about the area. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. In fact we are talking about going back again soon!

This is probably the best Red Roof Inn I've stayed at. It is very new and clean, and at a great price. The staff was fantastic too. In addition, the location can't get any better. So many restaurants right around the corner and UVA right across the street.

Parts of room and hotel could have been cleaner, but I am picky. Location made it a blast. Staff was extra helpful with all our needs & requests and some things we didn't request.

I have stayed at the Red Roof in Charlottesville twice now and each time found it to be completely satisfactory for a good price. It's not a fancy hotel and doesn't have many amenities but if you are just there to enjoy the University of Virginia it is definitely the most well located hotel to the grounds.

My bf and I got a room here for New Years Eve so we could have some "us" time and be in close proximity to the celebration should we decide to go out. My big complaints about this place was parking. We came in separate vehicles b/c of work and they only allow ONE parking pass per room so he had to find parking elsewhere and hope his car didn't get […] towed. Also, they only give you one room key which is kind of annoying b/c you're screwed if you lose it or one of you runs an errand, you both have to go (which we had to do to go pick up dinner). Also, forget about watching tv. You either have to pay for movies or tv on demand or your stuck w/CNN, NBC and 8 different ESPN channels on the regular cable. The room was nice, big and spacious w/a nice view and it was high enough above street level that the festitivies didn't keep us awake. It was clean and the mini fridge and microwave was good for our leftovers but given the parking and room key inconvenience we probably won't stay here again. Mehr

The bed was just awful. It literally was misshapen and you could feel every spring. And the TV was dark, but you couldn't adjust the brightness. While we mentioned this to the staff, none seemed to know what to do about it. Can't recommend this place.

Decent hotel w/ good location; however, had to ask for shampoo, $20 fee to access computer, no work-out facility. "Nuts & bolts" solid, no fluff... lacking the little things.

Excellent location if you need near UVa, shops, hospital, and downtown. Average hotel, beds/pillows not too comfortable, but relatively clean. Old decor, and some rooms have terrible views, little to no amenities, and very pricey compared to quality.

A nice hotel in a great location. Room equipment was a bit rudimentary, but it was good value for what one got.

Well situated between the UVA and the downtown walking mall. Rather spartan. Reasonably comfortable beds.

Very convenient to UVA. Lots of restaurants within walking distance. If you have a pet, the hotel is very pet friendly and does not charge any additional pet fees. Will stay here again. Staff was very helpful and friendly.

Check-in was uncomplicated & quick. My room was clean & quiet. The A/C unit was a bit finicky; I was either too cold or too warm, so I opted for too cold and put on a sweatshirt. One thing not included in the description was that the room had a small microwave and fridge. I would have brought supper & breakfast from home had I known. There isn't a business […] center, but the front desk clerk was happy to print off my two page document as long as I brought it down to the desk on a flash drive. I would definitely stay here again. Tucked in the heart of Charlottesville excellent location for visiting parents and friends of UVA students. I see no other reason to stay here at these prices. Hotel is OK for a night or two not somewhere I will stay again. Awakened at 8:00 on Sunday morning with barking dogs in the hall way. No smoking room that smelled like smoke. Very disappointing […] for the price. Hotel staff while not rude were just bothered. Could have stayed at one of the other "budget conscious " hotels for the same "amenities". Mehr

nice people,clean room,excellent location... the sink had a small leak on to the floor and the clock was broken... wish it had a microwave and a fridge!!

Okay for the price, but lousy coffee and no continental breakfast. Although we booked our room for 4 people, it was stocked with only 2 towels and one roll of TP.

I just got back from a visit to Charlottesville and I stayed at the Red Roof Inn. I was very pleased with the entire stay. The employees were very friendly, the hotel was super clean and the rooms were spacious and clean. It's important to mention that the hotel is ideally located directly across from campus, very close to everything (rest., bars, shopping, […] etc...) I will be back in the fall and will most definitely stay here again. Mehr

Stayed at the Red Roof for a long weekend trip to Charlottesville and was really surprised at how nice and clean our room was. We had a minor issue with the electronic door lock malfunctioning when we arrived, but the front desk quickly sent someone up to let us into the room and fix the problem. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the beds were […] fairly comfortable, and the location was exactly what we were looking for (close to UVA). The free parking was also very convenient. The Red Roof Inn was a well maintained generic hotel, but its right on the University of Virginia's campus making it my choice whenever I have to go to the university for business.
