will stay there again when I am in the area

I thought spending a few extra dollars would be worth a stay here. I usually stay down the road. When I arrived I was greated by a voice behind a 5 foot wall. I had to get on my tip toes to see the lady at the desk. Very uncomfortable situation. The bathtub in the room was dirty. The Hair dryer had hair stuck in it and a slimy feel to it. The bed was […] soft, but the pillows were about 20yrs old. It was a horrible night, thankfully I did not have to stay long. Had to work early!!! Mehr

Unclean, unable to regulate the heat....burn marks in the bedding, even though we requested a non-smoking room...dirty bathroom, tub did not drain....

the room was freezing when we arrived and it took over 4 hours for it to warm up. the carpets had dirt on them.

Although we were very close to the airport, it wasn't evident. It was a bit of a trial finding it, but it WAS our first trip there. The staff were friendly, the hotel was clean. The only complaint was that although it was suppose to be a non-smoking room, this obviously was not the case by the smell lingering there and the open windows prior to our […] arrival didn't cover it. I was pleased with the room it self though it isn't where I would go for a romantic getaway. It was clean and comfortable. My complaint is housekeeping did not replace the used towels and facecloths nor did they replenish the coffee supplies. The soda machines were empty and the toilet was new but not anchored down properly.

Had problems locking the door. There was no coffee pot for the coffee machine, also trouble controlling the heat.

we found the room to be clean and comfortable and the people who worked there to be helpful and friendly. It was handy to eating places , a restaurant inside the hotel as well as others close by. We would stay there again.

The worst experience I ever had. First room ,no light in bathroom and flush plugged.Could hear every word from guests next door. Beverage machine broken,Halls and stairs not vacumed. Gum on stairs. Hall very smokey. Exits not shovelled -snow,low water pressure. No cleaning staff available,. Desk lady not co -operative. We had to move 3 times in 2 nights. […] Queen room not suitable to our family needs. I would never stay at this hotel again or recommed it to friends. Mehr

The TV tint/color was all off in my room The door would not close to my room from the outside, unless I used the key to unlock it The room coffee machine would not work at all

the rooms are fine, halls could use a little (or a lot of air fresheners) thats what you get when you have smokers at a hotel. It suited what we needed it for.

Hotel was old and in desperate need of renovation, the first room we were given had a broken toilet, took 3 days of badgering to get the fridge moved to the alternative room. No towels or fresh linen, housekeeping ignored our room for 3 days out of an 8 day stay. We did get towels but had to pester the front desk. The best I can say is it was somewhere […] to sleep. Mehr

The room did not have a microwave,the television kept turning off on its own and when called the front desk for towles because housekeeping didnt leave any,the response was,"you will have to come down to the front desk and get them yourself"

The room and bathroom were clean and comfortable.This hotel is old and in need of upgrades. The restaurant was very reasonable and the food was good. I would recommend this hotel as it is handy to all shopping in Bangor.

This hotel is in bad need of an update!! and a good good cleaning. The bed was clean and the heat worked also the tv so, I was pleased. I guess you get what you pay for, wouldn"t pay anymore for it thats for sure.

This is the first time i have stayed at the Howard Johnson and was satified with the hotel.First of all I requested a smoke free room the room ranked of cigarette smoke that lingered in our clothing when we got home.The tub need some attention as the water would not go down the drain properly,there is a hole in the wall in the bathroom.We requested […] more linen it took forever to get them and when they arrived we were given shower mats and were told they didnt put the towels in the dyer so there was none ready.I dont want to be picky but the mirrors were not cleaned propertly and the room could have been cleaner.We travel to Maine this time of year to shop,My girl friends do not want to return to the Howard Johnson. This reservation was made a month prior to using the service and it was made for four persons hoping there was queen size beds but there was double making it unconfortable to sleep. We had two faceclothes between four of us and 4 flat pillows and when we asked at that front desk for more faceclothes and more pillows nothing was delivered so we had to […] make due with two clothes etc. there were no glasses in the room this was all the first night we stayed. When we arrived at 2pm one of the gals went in to check on admittance the man on the desk didn't even look up but abruptly said three oclock was check-in time. this hotel is very easy to find and is in a very cental location. the rooms were fairly clean but it was easy to tell the basic cleaning was done to say the room was clean.. there was still hairs, dust, and cobwebs in places. the water pressure wasn't the greatesr and the toilet seat was loose.. we mainly were only in the room to sleep so it was managable.. […] we just bought our own disinfectant wipes. This place is awful. Spend a little more to avoid it entirely.

The staff was very friendly. The hotel itself was older though and could use some upgrading. Some of the light fixtures didn't work in the room and one of them flashed all night long even though it was off. Hair drier didn't work and the toliet was close to overflowing a few times, but luckily did not. It was clean and for a quick night, it was fine. […] Would not stay longer than one night. Mehr

I went to this Hotel for my anniversary. Upon my visit the desk clerk was very rude and unpleasant. There was also a guy there with her did not look like he worked there but was watching television with her and he as well was a very rude individual. The room itself was okay. The cleanliness was excellent. The only thing broken was the switch for the […] bathroom fan. The bed was uncomfortable. Don't think it would hurt to switch or flip mattresses. I found this was a wasted amount of money that I had to spend on this room. You go to Hotels but also expect to see friendly service not feel like you have to be treated like a convict. I would enjoy your hotel but next year we are going across the street to The Econo Lodge! Mehr

What is wrong with a Hotel when they don't even show up on an updated GPS? Type HOJO in Bangor and the closest one is in Portland. The Hotel does show its age. Everything is in dire needs of an upgrade. Fresh paint in the rooms would be a start. As far as cleanliness, we found macaroni tubes from previous guests. Between the bed stand and the bed, they […] sure don't use the vacuum in that area. As for supplies, we had 3 tissue boxes with maybe one only had a few tissues in it. My wife had to remove pubic hairs from the toilet cover and she wasn't impressed. Toilet looked as if it never had been cleaned In the morning, water hammering could be heard at least in our room. When mentioned to the hotel staff, it was dismissed as an airplane landing. I know the sound of airplanes and they don't sound like a jack hammer. Person getting our reservation on the night we arrived, was more preoccupied in playing his online video game. To all those who wish to save a buck or two, DON'T THINK ABOUT GOING THERE!!! There are other nice hotels on Odlin RD to choose from. Make sure you reserve long time ahead to prevent any unwanted surprises. This was the first and LAST time we will ever go to that Howard Johnsons. The price is good but aside from that, nothing else was. Picking up the garbage around the building might make it a tiny bit more appealing. The restaurant although musty smelling, was good. Had big breakfasts for a descent price and the person tending to our needs sure kept the coffee cup full at all times! She was also very friendly. That was probably the only plus of staying there. No towels in room. No cups for coffee, Hugh dust bunnies under bed, no fridge in one room but a fridge in others. Very loud, a lot of heavy traffic and low flying planes but all hotels in area would have same problem. Lobby very stinky and almost made me leave but room was fine.

the lock was broken on door didnt lock properly.the big thing was no refrig in room i am a dietebic and needed to keep my insulin cold had to keep getting ice very unconventent.

The good thing about this hotel is the price and the fact that it is close to the airport. This hotel stinks!! The rooms that are non-smoking smell terrible. Needs a complete makeover. I would rather pay more and get a cleaner and nicer quality room. Therefore if we fly out of Bangor again, it will be at another hotel.

When we entered the bulding the stairs leading to the second floor were filthy with scattered trash. We needed a shaver...it was terrible. Blade was absolutely dull. They had a toothbrush but no toothpaste. Hallway rugs were dirty and smelled bad.. Bed was okay.

I was very disappointed as I had stayed at Howard Johnsons in New Brunswick, Canada and it was very comfortable. The room was not very clean especially the carpets. there wasn't any shower curtain.

The shower was moldy and the room had a strong smell of cheap carpet cleaner.

Our experience at this motel was horrible: 1. There was a dirty/used air filter left in our room. 2. There were burn holes in the blankets. 3. Our non-smoking room smelled like smoke. 4. The bar fridge didn't work. 5. The bed looked like someone had sleep in it. 6. The door lock was broken and was not repaired even after 2 requests to have it fixed. 7. […] There were no facecloths left on the second day and none at the front desk when we inquired (twice). 8. Good value for the price. Convenient location.

The pool, pool area and chairs was in very poor condition, we wanted to take advantage of this service, but it was to dirty to enjoy.

The room smelled strong. It was smell of detergent for linens I guess. There was a fly in the room which was so bothering. Overall, it was ok, but it needs to be improved.

When all other hotels were completely booked, this hotel still had vacancies. There's a reason! There was a cigarette hole in the bedspread; one towel in the bathroom. There were no cots available - alternatively the one staff person had no interest in trying to locate one. The bathroom was designed so that there was a shelf above the toilet. This meant […] however that the toilet seat wouldn't stay up unless you held it (difficult for my little boys to use - i.e. holding up the toilet seat so it won't slam down on them while trying to use the bathroom. The place smelled like spilled alcohol and cigarettes, and the bathtub hadn't been cleaned. In hindsight, our van would have been a better place to have spent the night. Mehr

we called for a pilow, 2 hrs later still no pillow, girl said she could not leave desk alone to go get one, even when we went to the desk. AC not working in room, but they did move us to another Could not get onto interent in morning, only one bar visable.

Just a place to lay your head. To far away from Bar Harbor.

The room was non-smoking, spacious and clean. Access to parking area acceptable. Staff were helpful and courteous, Pricing very reasonable. Wifi worked excellent. I would recommend this hotel to travelers and will most certainly stay again. This was my third visit to this motel.
