Mal abgesehen davon, dass man Gefahr laufen kann ein Zimmer direkt an der befahrenen Straße zu bekommen, handelt es sich hierbei um ein gutes Hotel in guter Lage zur Golden Gate Bridge und anderen Sehenswürdigkeiten von San Francisco. Direkt vom Hoteldach hat man einen Blick auf die Brücke. Bushaltestellen sind auch direkt vor der Tür. Das beinhaltete Frühstück ist für amerikanische Standards eher ein Snack und besteht aus Kaffee,Tee, Orangensaft und Brot mit verschiedenen Marmeladensorten und Muffins aus keiner großen Auswahl. Freies begrenztes Parken steht auch zur Verfügung.

Wir hatten zu einen sehr günstigen Preis die Juniorsuite im 5. Stock. Riesiges Zimmer (aber nur eins) mit Blick auf Downton, vor dem Fesnter ein Schreibtisch zum Kartenschreiben und Träumen. Einzig das Frühstück passte nicht, die haben extra einen Raum im typischen Breakfast-Stil angebaut, wo es dann den üblichen Papp gibt. Sonst alles bestens, wobei die Parkplatzsuche lästig sein kann, weil die Straßen angeblich nachts häufig gereinigt werden und der Abschleppwagen droht. Hotel-Garage gegen teure Gebühr.

Die "Bullen" und "Bären" bevölkern die Straßen des Finanzdistrikts, in dem sich die höchsten Gebäude der Stadt befinden, darunter die unverwechselbare Transamerica Pyramid. Daran angrenzend verläuft der "Embarcadero", eine von Palmen gesäumte breite Straße, die vom AT&T Park der San Francisco Giants bis zur Fisherman's Wharf führt. Die Straße führt auch am Ferry Building vorbei. Dieses Wahrzeichen dient heute als Wochenmarkt für nicht industriell hergestellte Lebensmittel.

Sehr schönes Zimmer mit grandioser Aussicht auf San Francisco. Der Umstand, dass sowohl der Pool als auch das Spa- und erweiterte Fitness-Angebot ausserhalb des Hotels - gegen Gebühr!? - benutzt werden müssen, ist für ein 5-Sterne-Hotel (in gewissen Reise-Katalogen sogar 6-Sterne-Hotel) schlicht und einfach nicht akzeptabel!! Lobby und Lounge ziemlich […] düster. Kein Vergleich mit anderen, von uns besuchten, ebenfalls mit 5 Sternen bewerteten Mandarin Oriental Hotels (New York, Kuala Lumpur). "First stay since their renovation."
The renovation opens up the lobby and puts a brasserie on the first floor along with restrooms. This makes the layout much more convenient for guests. Our room was also brighter with much more comfortable chairs. Happily, the staff remains the same friendly, courteous, professional group. Sitting squarely atop the second-tallest building in San Francisco, the Mandarin Oriental hotel was built in the days before they gave all the pricey high-rise real estate over to luxury condos. And you can sort of tell. Despite recent renovations, the hotels physical plant seems like something out of yesteryear, with too-sumptuous marbles and not-insubstantial […] amount of gold trim. The diminutive lobby, restaurant, and bar are stuffed into street level, and the hotel's location, while central, is too quiet at night and on weekends making it tough to get a cab. What makes the Mandarin a destination is the views. From an entry-level room or from jaw-dropping Bridge-to-Bridge digs, the City by the Bay has never looked better. "AC was not working. Poor customer service"
We choose to stay here for a nice weekend in San Francisco. Room was appointed in the last floor as requested with spectacular views with excellent amenities, etc. just the way you expect to get from this Company. However, the room was too warm in the evening and called the technician at midnight but didn't repair the problem. We couldn't sleep because […] the A/C was not working and the room got really warm in the middle of the night. At check out we brought this matter and they couldn't offer any discount or adjustment or refund and they will check later with the technical department to see what happened. In the meantime, I was charged for the overnight valet parking and additional charges. Service at front desk was not as expected and unacceptable. No one contact us yet. "Awesome experience!"
Stayed Nov 17th, 2012. The whole experience was 5 star! My girlfriend and I got engaged the same day we checked in. I took her here for a romantic weekend to celebrate our engagement. That night i mentioned our engagement to the host of the hotel restaurant. At the end of our meal they brought out a special fruit plate with the word "Congratulations" […] written in chocolate on the plate. The food at the restaurant was very good and highly recommended. Be sure you try the Tadish Grill a block from the hotel when you are there as well. Catch a trolly ride from the corner to china town which is really close by... you can even walk to Embarcadaro to one of the first piers. The view from our 40th floor was very nice. I would recommend trying for the 48th floor... as the view would even be more spectacular. Next time we will go for a higher floor. It was raining that night and when we went out the concierge offered us an umbrella to take with us for the night. Nice touch! The bed was extremely comfy and the room was spectacular. They look newly remodeled. The tub is on the window so you can bath with a view! We ordered room service on our last day. We forgot to do it the night before... it arrived within the time specified... like 30 minutes... not too bad. Breakfast in bed was simply amazing. "Very nice, quiet, ultra friendly hotel!"
The staff is incredibly personable and friendly. Our room was a bit delayed and we were treated to a complimentary cocktail/appetizer. The view from our 38th floor room was stunning. Quiet room, and very comfortable bed. The pillows were a bit large and stiff, but i should have brought our own from home. Room service menu for dinner does not offer a […] lot, and we weren't impressed with the steaks. However, we more than made up for it the next night dining at Bob's Steak and Chop House located around the corner in the Omni Hotel. There is remodeling that keeps the main entrance and main lobby off limits. This was made up for by the courtesy and professionalism of the staff. Views from our room were imcomparable and worth it. "Paid for the best but didn't get it"
This was our first five star hotel outside of Las Vegas and we expected a lot, especially for the price. The service was wonderful but the quality of the room and facility was not up to par. Nearly every piece of furniture in our room was dinged up and the upholstery was stained. Sure, it looks like the picture, but age it 15 years. Still, the bathroom […] was fabulous and the bed was comfortable (no stains there) and it was very quiet way up on the 41st floor. The view was also great, particularly from the "skywalk" area in the hallway on each floor. Since we had paid for the upgraded room with the special theme furniture the shoddy condition of the furnishings was extra disappointing. Was it a good hotel with great service? Yes. Did it feel like a luxury hotel? Not really. Not when you're sitting on a scratched up chaise lounge and putting your jacket down on a stained cushion. Finally, one minor ding. It was our first stay there and we loved it. We had a premium suite with a great view of the city looking East and South. Bay Bridge view was wonderful. It was the quietest hotel room I have EVER been in. If you want rest, this is your hotel. Service was on-par with other five-stars, maybe a bit better. Lobby is small and intimate as is first floor […] lounge. Lots of understatement throughout. Room service menu is a bit limited, but acceptable.
