Courtyard by Marriott Columbia Downtown at USC - Columbia

Additional $10 for parking. $15 for breakfast. The price is for a room...nothing more. Nice room though.

I visit Columbia 6 times a year and prefer to be near Koger Performing Arts Center area. This hotel has one of the best locations. The surroundings within a couple of blocks is a bit seedy, yet there are lots of students around because it is on the edge of campus near the music building, the health center and the School of Medicine etc. There are good […] restaurants within 10 minutes walk as is the capital bldg, and banking but almost no retail. The rooms are decently outfitted, beds are fine, linens clean. The overall feel is a bit battered. The free wireless works fine. The price can be competitive for the area but forget it on USC home football weekends when prices nearly triple. The 2 things that have bothered me on more than one stay are: the in-wall air con units are noisy and drafty, like a motor inn and they cycle all night unless you turn it off which you won't in the summer - and you don't get house keeping service if you stay over more than one night without asking for it. I left the room at 10am each morning and got service twice by request. They said they are not a full service hotel when I asked at the desk but nothing on the internet mentioned that. And the breakfast is pathetic which is typical in US mid-level hotels. Don't pay for breakfst with the room. Ask to have it comped or go out. My recommendation then? YES for location and general comfort and functionality - NO if you're bothered by details or want to be pampered or prefer high levels of service. (The staff is friendly and amenable though). The rooms were very nice and the hotel was clean with courteous staff. Better food and beverage service is needed. Without that I would not stay there again.

Dirty bedspread, sour towels, dusty furniture, handprints on head board "that's right hand prints", vents covered in a thick dust and the breakfast is not free but you can purchase a package. I did however attend a concert at colonial life center and it was a great walking distance. I will never go back to this hotel. I already complained to the hotel […] and they said they could not adjust my bill because we booked thru a 3rd party "hotels.com". That's ok lesson learned. I just really wished I would not have spent $200 on a room like that. Mehr

Hotel is conveniently located next to the USC campus. It resides on a major street. Street noise and trains kept you up most of the night.

The rooms were clean and comfortable. Parking was tight but overall experience was great.

The place was great. It was clean, comfortable, accessible. It was right where I needed it to be. I would stay there again if I had the need to stay in that area.

It was definitely a nice hotel, but just FYI...if you book a room with breakfast included, like we did...you have to ask them each morning for breakfast coupons. We booked so far in advance and almost ended up paying for our breakfast. Don't fall for this! Their breakfast is pretty good, though. :)

Room was perfect for my needs. The only things to remember, the hotel is in the Center of the city - so you are going to hear the city. That said, I was in town to take the Bar exam & was fully able to study & sleep with the noise. You can hear the train, too, but it's generally off in the distance. The other thing is the neighborhood. Again, it's downtown […] Columbia so there's a ton of stuff around you - including some rough looking character's occassionally. You never felt unsafe - in fact I was comfortable leaving expensive items in my car overnight. One guest left a laptop on their hood for at least several hours until I notified the front desk it had been there for at least 2 hours. Overall, it was a great, comfortable, clean, updated hotel that was in a solid, convenient location. I would definitely stay there if I were heading to Columbia again soon. Mehr

I would not stay in this hotel again. For whatever reason, the sounds outside of my hotel window sounded as if they were inside my room. Between the train noises and the cars outside, it was not a peaceful night's sleep. The hotel was certainly clean and well maintained. The bathroom was kinda tight but overall it was nice. Don't try to toke in the room fyi.

We stayed here for one night because we wanted to tour USC for my daughter. The hotel was very nice and perfectly located within the campus. I was most impressed with the staff. They are very helpful, pleasant and always ready to assist. I would highly recommend this hotel to everyone.

Hotel was in a perfect location. We were there to go out for Halloween, was walking distance to the downtown area. They also had a free shuttle, though we didn't use it. Room was great and beds were very comfy. Only complaint is that they don't serve food on Saturday....thought that was odd. We had a drink at the bar and left to go eat. The parking leaves a lot to be desired and certainly not worh the extra fee. I drive a Nissan Sentra and I had difficulty parking in the garage. Yes, there is parking on the roof, but it is inconvenient when you are moving your luggage. The A/C unit was incredibly noisy and sounded like it was on its last legs. The Courtyard downtown Columbia worked out great for us. I was meeting up with some friends the night before the USC vs. Navy game, so I wanted a hotel close to downtown. The room was fine other than the small bathroom. We were able to walk home from the restaurant after getting shuttled there by the hotel (which was awesome). My only complaint (like […] others) is the parking. My boyfriend drives a Honda Ridgeline and scrapped the top of his roof running boards going under the handing clearing... but we definitely didn't want to park on the street. Once you are in the parking garage, it was fine. All in all, it worked great. Mehr

it was expensive, but the people working at the hotel were all superb, especially the person waiting on us at breakfast--so that made up for the expense. She earned a big tip.

Fine hotel that I would recommend to anyone. For those of you driving, however, (be it your own car or a rental) beware. You will be charged to park in a tiny garage with so many support columns that it is difficult to actually get a car into a spot. I walked out to my car one day and found a hotel maintenance golf cart crashed into the bumper of another […] guest's SUV, with no employee in sight. A friend of mine parked on the street JUST outside the hotel, and when she returned to her Jeep her speakers were missing (welcome to downtown Columbia). As I said before. We booked this hotel for one night only as we were in Columbia, SC for a baseball game. The lobby of the hotel was beautiful. The staff was helpful. The room was spacious but the bathroom was a little tight, and both were very clean. the only thing that I didn't like was the parking garage. It was very tight and very low. I was very nervous about hitting […] my car. We have a standard SUV, and it was tight. If you have a large SUV, i.e. Yukon or something to that degree, it might be very hard to park. Mehr

Cleanliness of drinking glasses. The first one I picked up was dirty. The second had lipstick stains. And yes, they were wrapped in plastic with the nice little deceptive disposable lid. I learned years ago how hotels clean drinking glasses. They don't. I was staying in a very nice upscale hotel in Chicago once when I walked into the room and the housekeeping […] employee had cleaned the sink. The sink was plugged and was full of water, and submerged in the water were the drinking glasses. She was taking them out and drying them off with a washcloth (HOPEFULLY a clean one), then adding the disposable lid and placing them back for reuse. I found that disgusting and far from sterilized. Think about it - check the housekeeping cart. You never see clean glasses there, only towels and toiletries. I much prefer the cheapo, disposable paper or styrofoam cups but nicer hotels often don't have those available. Beware at this hotel and every other one out there! Mehr

I found all the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful. This Hotel is very convenient when visiting someone at the University of South Carolina.

Hotel was in a great location. Workers are very nice and the room was clean. I had issues with the hotel charging breakfast to my card when I paid for it with a different card. They said they removed it but nothing has happened 3 days later.

The hotel was very nice, well kept, and in a good location relative to the university. The staff were not very friendly or accomidating probably because the weekend was so big and busy for them.

Good quality hotel at an affordable price. The hotel is extremely close to the University of South Carolina -- basically right next to it -- and right in downtown, so you don't have to drive far to see the city's attractions. The rooms were clean & comfortable & the staff was friendly. I will say their parking garage is not for the faint of heart. […] There are concrete poles literally every two spaces -- sometimes in between one space -- so if you drive a large SUV, good luck with all that! I also could have done without the false alarm fire evacuation at 5 A.M, but I realize that was more of a "luck of the draw" kind of thing. Mehr

If you stay at this hotel, try to avoid having a room that faces Assembly street. The traffic noise and the noise from the freight trains kept me awake most of the night. Otherwise the hotel is beautiful and the staff is wonderful.

Customer service was terrible, parking was not included in price of room, room had not been completely cleaned, room service was outsourced and very pricey. Toilet paper, tissue, towels, coffee cups, water glasses and coffee were not stocked to reflect the number of guests in the room.

This is the only problem we had with the room. Traffic outside the room sound like a drag strip, racing up and down the street.

I've stayed at several hotels on and around the USC campus and this one was definitely the best value. I had a refrigerator in my room that the other hotels did not. If you are staying for several days, then this comes in very handy. The room was very nicely furnished and very comfortable. The staff was also very friendly.

This hotel was in a convenient location to everything and the hotel staff was very accomodating. The only negative was the parking garage, as it was very small and hard to maneuver (parking is available outside though). I would definitely stay there again.

Great location when visiting the University of South Carolina. The hotel has recently been remodeled; so the commone areas and rooms are well kept.

This was out third time stating at this hotel and find it very convenient for visiting campus. Not enough parking in lot, but front desk staff took off parking fee when had to park on the street. Also, no free coffee in lobby as is advertised!
