good hotel, location is also pretty decent. Rates where also petty good. I would stay here again.

Stayed only one night great location if using Tampa Bays Times Forum large hotel ,lots of guests Was weekend of start of spring break lots of college kids their but did not notice because rooms were quiet Plenty of parking ,nice pool (did not use)nor did we use any services Would stay here again

This is a clean hotel conveniently located to the highway and most major attractions. Great location along riverwalk as well. Nothing was more than a 10 to 15 minute walk. Two thumbs up!

I found my stay at Howard Johnson to be above average. I was a perfect distance away from the Tampa convention center, and the free shuttle was wonderful in taking me places a little farther away. The staff were helpful and the shuttle drivers knowledgable about local sights and events. I requested a late checkout and the staff was kind enough to give […] me permission. This hotel was fine for the price -- the room was comfortable, quiet, and relatively inexpensive for the location. However, the on-site restaurant was a joke -- not bad food (again, for the price), but when a large group of seniors expected to be served, the servers and the food preparers hid behind "we didn't expect so many people to show up" and "a […] few people didn't show up to work" and "no, there is not a manager with whom you can speak." I'm guessing that the restaurant is a VENDOR to this hotel location, and not one who is doing Howard Johnson's any favors. This is not hearsay -- I observed everything I report here. Mehr

The toilet was in a state of disrepair. Maintenance was not on duty. Security had to respond and attempted to repair. It continued to flush after it had overflowed. Needless to say sleeping was close to impossible. However, the chef or manager of the restaurant as well as the staff was very accommodating. Hotel is great for business or attending a function nearby (hockey game, convention center, performing arts, etc). Location: Very close to all of the venues noted above. However, finding a restaurant nearby was such a pain! As with most downtown streets, they are one-way, meaning to get out of downtown it takes a very long time. We got caught in traffic […] when the hockey game was starting nearby. The Publix that was 8 minutes away on our GPS took us 1 hour roundtrip. Positives: The staff was very nice. The complimentary shuttle service was a plus. Plenty of storage room in the room itself. Air conditioning was great. The housekeepers greeted us at all times, even if they weren't attending our room. Comfortable beds - a big plus! Negatives: The toilet seat was very open, meaning my 8 year-old had to balance herself. Not meant for someone with a little tush. ;) The pool was not heated so couldn't enjoy that. Not much for the kids to do, but downtown areas aren't really meant for kids (my husband was running the races in Gasparilla, which is why the kids came along). The elevators were a bit rickety. $8 a night for parking, when the description said free parking. Overall, it was a nice hotel. Wouldn't recommend it for people bringing kids, unless in the summer when the pool could be utilized. Great location for the local venues. Mehr

Very convenient location with excellent views.

I had no problems at all during my stay. My room was clean and very comfortable, the food in the restaurant was very good and the staff was friendly. The price was reasonable compared to the other Hotels in the area and I felt I got what I paid for.

I would stay again at the H.J. downtown Tampa. the staff was great, old but not bad at all thanks

This is an older hotel and the hallways and some common areas show it. The rooms were updated and nice except for odd and ill-fitting bathroom fixtures, including a countertop that was sort of wedged in at an angle. WE STAYED ONE NIGHT TO GO TO A CONVENTION.THE HOTEL IS OLD, BUT CLEAN. THE STAFF WAS VERY FRIENDLY. PARKING IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE PRICE. BREAKFAST IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE PRICE, BUT IT WAS PRETTY GOOD. THEY ARE REMODELING THE DINING AREA, BUT WE DIDNT HEAR ANY CONSTRUCTION NOISE. THE ROOM WAS BIG AND THE BEDS WERE COMFORTABLE. The appearance of the hotel on the website is misleading. The rooms are assembled from items from other hotels that have been auctioned off on the cheap-sometimes things that are quite old. Yes the place is clean and inexpensive, but it was not what I expected from the information I was given about it at booking time.

IF OLD AND FIXED UP IS YOUR THING, THIS IS YOUR PLACE.

My Fiance and I booked this hotel because it offered a free shuttle service to The St. Pete Times Forum, where we where seeing a concert. At first the hotel seemed great. Then we got to our room. There was either blood or hair dye (couldn't tell which one) in little blotches on the inner lining of the shower curtain. The shuttle service ended at 10 […] pm, not so convenient when the concert didnt end till well pass midnight. When we got back to the hotel it was ridiculous! I understand teens go a bit crazy when their not under supervision, but this was out of control! We tried to use the elevator and the kids where literally blocking the elevators. we walked over the the front desk and asked them if they could do anything about this, and the guy behind said no. We looked over to see a security guard and asked him and simply said no. really? The guy behind the front desk said that if we had any complaints that he couldn't say sorry for or wanted a refund we had to contact hotels.com. Needless to say, we where only there one night and it was horrible, I will make sure that anyone i come into contact with that will be staying in the Tampa area knows of this experience, horrible, horrible, horrible! I had stayed at HoJos in the past, but usually on a family road trip as a kid. I was on a business trip to Tampa and couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised by this modern version. The staff was very pleasant and helpful, the room was large with a very comfy bed & pillows, the shower was hot with great water pressure. The Tampa HJ is close to Times Forum arena AND pet friendly. Recommend to other pet toting travlers.

The hotel was nice and pretty convenient, but the internet service was not very good. Being as how I booked the hotel so that I could be near the convention center for the bar exam, not being able to access the internet (or having it reset every few minutes) while trying upload my answers was not pleasant and when I asked the front desk about it I was […] informed that everyone was trying to access it at the same time and they couldn't help that it wasn't working. The hotel should take precautions against this in the future since it is obvious they know what is going to happen! Mehr

We chose this hotel as basically a place to crash after a hockey game at the St. Pete Times Forum. We were very pleased that the hotel offered a free shuttle to the arena, as well as back when the game was over. Generally, the lobby looks much nicer than the rest of the hotel (rooms, hallways, etc) which was slightly shabbier. However, we found the […] beds to be comfortable enough and the room was clean. The wireless internet worked better than most. We were within walking distance to many interesting things in downtown Tampa. I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for somewhere close to downtown and you just really want a place to sleep, not one to hang out. Mehr

It is an older hotel but clean and comfortable. We found it convenient for what we needed. No bars and restaurants right beside the hotel but the free hotel shuttle will take you anywhere within a couple of miles.There is a bar and restaurant in the hotel. Outside pool. All in all, a good stay. Would go again.

Shuttle service to the downtown area made the location satisfactory.

The Hotel is in a fairly decent area. The lobby is very nice. All staff were very friendly. The room had a dated feel. It also had a funky smell, but looked very clean. It had a nice view of the city, and you could see the water from the room. Parking was 8 dollars a day. This is a great hotel for the price! Full restaurant and bar downstairs, clean room, friendly staff, courtesy shuttle...it was perfect for our needs! The food in the restaurant was great! Really no need to go anywhere off property.

Had a great time at the HO JO. The trip was an overnight to see a concert at the Performing Arts Center. The hotel was clean and the staff was execptional. The bartender, Rochelle, I think, went out of her way to accomadate those few of us who wanted to make the most of the night. Thanks for a great experience! We will definitely be returning.

The hotel was clean. The rooms were nice . The only problem was, there was no microwave or refrigerater in the room.

The hotel doubles as a dorm for University of Tampa students. They are good kids, but there are lots of them. Hotel staff was not helpful and not professional. Hotel was in a good location for our needs.

The howard johnson on Dale Mabry is much nicer and you do not have ot pay for parking. We moved to this howard johnson because it was closer to the convention we went too. It is over priced for what they offer and the incedentals will kill you. The food in the resturant was good but over priced. The room steward was super nice and did a great job! It […] is a clean room for an older hotel. The lobby and common areas are clean and do not smell. Room price was ok but all of the extra charges are rediculous for a hotel that old. The bed that we slept in was comfortable, but the one by the bathroom was not. It was lumpy so out of 2 queen beds only one was sleepable. the a/c worked. the tv remote didn't work, but the tv did. The front desk could not offer any assist with eaterys in the area. The doors in our room needed some mainteneance done to them. The overall stay here was great for the price and its a quiet area easy to find. I recommend HJ any day and will stay again.
