Holiday Inn Eisenhower Avenue - Alexandria

Since we drove for our vacation, it was great to park & not have to drive anywhere till we left. The hotel provided transportation to near by destinations of your choice & is very close to the metro to go into DC. Movie theater near by also great (if we had more time), staff at front desk very helpful with tour info & making arrangements also. Overall, […] very happy with our stay & would stay there again. The room was great, bathroom was also newly remodeled and shower was fantastic. The newly opened restaurant may scare you with the prices but believe me when I tell you the food was fantastic! Service was good, and the room was clean. Walking distance to meto and eateries. We usually like to stay at hotels that offer at least a little breakfast buffet. They have a resturant on the premise but you do not always have time to stop for a full meal. The service at the resturant was very slow. They do offer free coffee, but a free pastry or muffin […] might be good gesture. When we can get a room at other local hotels, the breakfast buffets are included with your stay. I never know when I am coming to the area due to my work and it is not always easy to stay where you want to stay due to the busy Washington Metro area. Over all we were pleased. Mehr

We stayed here for our vacation to see Washington DC. Easy access to the Metro made it very easy to see DC. Hotel was nice and clean. The room was very nice. Restaurant service was a bit slow, but food was good.

Great location with everything you need close by including a metro station!

I was concerned about staying in Alexandria, so far from the sights and restaurants, but the staff made sure a shuttle was available to ferry guests wherever they wanted to go, whether for dinner in Old Town or groceries at Whole Foods. And the Metro was a mere 3 minutes away, making it easy to get to the National Mall.

This hotel was very close to the metro, so the convenience alone would cause me to book again while visiting Washington DC. We used the metro to visit DC and Old Town, where there is a free trolley to King Street, awesome! The indoor pool was heated and clean and a big bonus! The hotel was clean and safe, and I did not hear the traffic or other guests. […] The other guests included some school groups, but we were well enough away to only hear them in the lobby when were were leaving or coming back! The staff was courteous and helpful for the most part. Here are the exceptions: As we arrived during the evening (11pm) after 5 hours in the car, the night desk clerk could have been a bit more courteuous and helpful. He said we didn't have a reservation and I had to pull out my Hotels.com printout while he scowled at me. Then when I asked about the location of the metro, he vaguely pointed at the front of the hotel and grunted. After a long drive, the beds and pillows were a dream! Second night too, so I know that it was not just being overtired. The restaurant is to be avoided. We waited about 15 minutes to be seated for breakfast. The restaurant was not full to capacity but slightly busy. We were seated, but no one came to take our order for 40 minutes. I tried making eye contact with various waitstaff and even calling out, but we were ignored, as the waitstaff for what I could see, wandered around aimlessly. The overworked hostess finally came to us and was suprised we didn't have our food, let alone hadn't had our order taken. She took our order. After that, a waiter came with bread - cold underdone toast - and told us it came with our meal. We got our drinks, minus a water, and it took about 10 minutes more after that to get water. By the time we got our food, the restaurant had almost cleared out, except for the line waiting to be seated. I arrived at the hotel 20 minutes before check in. I had an important meeting at 3:30, so I needed to check in at 3 PM to make sure I was at the meeting on time. I waited until 3 PM to check in where I was told it was going to be a 45 minute wait because they needed to clean my room. The hotel was nowhere near close to capacity, so I'm not sure why […] they couldn't just give me another room. I saw 2 people check in after me while I was waiting in the lobby who both got their rooms and did not have to wait. I ended up having to change my clothes and get ready in the bathroom and head out to my meeting and check in afterwards. This was a huge annoyance for me. I feel like if I'm paying for the room at 3 PM, I should be able to go to my room at 3 PM. I seem to always have this issue at every Holiday Inn I stay at, so I really would prefer to never use HI again. Other than the check in, everything else seemed pretty ok. The bed was very uncomfortable. My toilet was stopped up and actually overflowed the first time I used it. I had to get someone to fix it. I didn't try out the pool or the fitness center so I cannot comment on those. Overall the hotel is just ok. With the constant check in issues, I will not stay at HI anymore. Mehr

good room, 1 block from metro. 15min away from downtown DC in metro. bathroom a bit small but ok. also no safe in my room

Oursatay was very nice. The hotel was a short walk to the train station, and there were very nice restaurants and a movie theatre nearby. The room was. clean and well appointed. The hotel restaurant was very good. The entire hotel staff was very courteous and accommodating.

Pros:Hotel staff were very friendly and courteous. Offered to shuttle us to certain locations. steak and eggs was good but a little pricey. about a block from subway. cons: The hotel was undergoing heavy renovations, soda machines were out of service on 6 floors. Continental breakfast was not worth the price: 6.95 for coffee, cornflakes and some stale […] pastries. OJ was 7.00/ for half liter caraffe. Mehr

Clean, comfortable and recently updated. Best part was combination of price and location literally 1/2 block from Eisenhower Metro Station. And free parking! Can't be beat in Alexandria!

The service was great. The room was clean and tidy. The bed however, sank in the middle making it extremely uncomfortable to sleep in.

I stayed here 3 nights, they were renovating, it was dirty, noisy, no gym open, dirt and loud noises in the room, the place was very unpleasant for me. I will never stay there again!

We especially enjoyed the convenient location to the Metro and many shops and restaurants!

Helpful staff, clean rooms, and familiar restaurants within walking distance to hotel. The hotel is located one block from the metro line, provides a shuttle service into Old Alexandria and offers free parking as well. Had a wonderful time

even though the hotel is under renovation the appearance was fine. the hotel staff was more than pleasant and helpful.

Hotel did not measure up to on- line pictures. Discovered on arrival it was under renovation. Our room smelled of cigerette smoke even though it was supposed to have been smoke free. The AC was not functioning correctly so room was too warm & uncomfortable. Even though I reported it to the staff on two occasions, it was not corrected nor were other […] arrangements offered. Other than that, the staff was pleasant and helpful in most cases. The shuttle was a plus in the evenings in taking us to local resturants. Mehr

Nikelle was professional & helpful. Some of the male staff @ desk were not as friendly. The bartendeners were personable.

Not a great location and a hotel that was being renovated (in which it definately needed). Very few people there during the weekend, parking lot empty and therefore the rooms renter were very few as well. Not the cleanest hotel but nothing was stolen. Beds horribly soft, a board was placed under the mattress of the third room I was offered to provide […] some firmness. Bad back? Forget it. Good back? Expect a bad back... Mehr

Hotel exterior was nice, room was disgusting. There were signs all over that said they were renovating and pics of what the rooms would look like in January 2012. Well, they should really shut the place down until then. Rugs were dirty, room smelled moldy, the ceilings were a mess, and I nearly threw up when I turned on the faucet and it poured out […] brown. Fortunately for me I checked in at midnight and out at 8am the next morning, and since the bed was comfortable and the location was right off 495, it served it's purpose. Nice hotel, good parking. biggest plus was being close to the close to metro station, and friendliness and helpfulness of desk staff. Everything was very clean and neat. A few restaurants within walking distance,.Had a nice small bar near the lobby if you wanted an evening drink. Quiet area. Overall, a decent value for the money. Good wireless internet. […] TV station selection fair at best. On the negative side, no free breakfast, somewhat small rooms, air condistioner barely adequate. 10% lower room rates would make this a good value. Mehr

This hotel is a little older but, was well maintained, had easy access right off the highway. The room was clean, with new and very comfortable bedding. Staff was friendly and curtious. We had a good stay for a good price!

The pool has really short hours 3-9 and they kick everyone out to add chemicals, and the lifeguard does not speak very good english, and reads books while everyone is swimming. There is no jumping into the pool even though its 8 feet deep. There is no continental breakfast, and they don't change the rooms early enough. The holiday inn bus is crappy […] and doesn't have air conditioning. Some of the workers are snotty, and the pool smells bad. The shower knobs where loose and the bathroom had no fan. The dining room staff was excellent.

the recent and current road construction in and around Alexandria made it nearly impossible to find this hotel. Buyer beware, this hotel is in a very obscure location beneath an overpass/road that is supposed to be the same street as the hotel.

I stayed at this hotel on the suggestion of a friend. I would not stay here again. My flight was delayed and I ended up getting there a day later than I had planned. I called the hotel twice on the day I was to arrive to let them know my flight was not going to get me there on schedule and was assured by both people that I would not be charged for the […] night I wouldn't be there. when I did arrive they charged me for the night. there was not a manager around that had any authority to cancel the nights charge. I felt like I had gotten a run around and noone was in charge. I am still trying to reach a manager and it's now a week later. Mehr

I love staying at this hotel, of course the area is a little different (things built up around hotel) since my last stay but I had no trouble finding. The front desk staff was very nice & attentive, the room was very clean, the beds are really comfortable. The only issue I had is that the hotel asked for my credit card & said if I damage or smoke in […] the room I will be charged a $300 fine. Well, I don't smoke but I had to smell somebody elses cigarette smoke all night & they slammed their door all night & all morning did not get any sleep. Mehr

This hotel had a great location by the metro. The rooms were stuffy and the tub wouldn't drain. The hotel did fix the drain. Overall, the hotel was just okay. It wasn't bad; it wasn't good.

This was a last minute vacation with my two third graders during a school vacation. The room was huge and a 3 minute walk to the Metro station. In addition there were restaurants and a movie theater even closer.

This was the worst experience I ever had in ANY hotel I ever stayed in. the front desk personnel were rude, the room was filthy the pool was only open a couple of hours a day the game room they advertise wasn't even there the water in the shower came out brown and the tub was worn thru the porcelain and stained. I can't tell you how disappointed I was. […] The front counter did not even try to give us another room probably because they were all dirty. The curtains had filthy hand prints on it also there was a hair ball on the bathroom floor and cob webs on the ceiling Mehr

Decent hotel. Clean if a little worn around the edges. Very friendly and helpful staff. Decent price for the location and a short, easy walk to the metro.

Service was good. Beds were comfortable. I would not eat there as it smelled and the food was not good. Will give 5 stars to hotel personnel as they found and returned my daughters lost ipod!!

The hotel location is very good. It's very close to the Metro station and very good restaurants. The hotel itself is old and needs renovation. Same goes with the interior room decor especially the TV. The staff was very friendly. They also have a courtesy pick up/drop off from/to the Reagan National airport which is great. The beds are comfortable and […] easy to sleep. The shower and the tub look very old. It's an okay hotel if you want to stay for one or two nights. Mehr
