Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center - Detroit

Everything was very nice, we enjoyed staying at the hotel. RoomService was a little slow (when we ordered towels , it took them 1,5 hour to get to the room after 3 phone calls to the reception) but overall we had a really god, time. Good that hotel has all the restaurants , cafe, shops and so on inside. Bank of America ATM was perfect for me. Outside […] yard and bar was nice but a little bit pricey. Volt bartender was slow as well. we were checking out and wanted to get couple of beers before we go, while we had out bags taken out, but bartender never came up to us and ask us what we want, we just had to walk away. Location is great, very close to the festival, that we came for. Food was the room service was pretty good. After all, very good experience, Thanks a lot . We will def be back P.S. Beds are comfy, rooms are small and mostly updated. Ok hotel, the location is great if you plan to hang out downtown.

On the waterfront, close to Woodward Ave, one of the main streets of Detroit. Excellent, friendly staff. Good place to stay.

This hotel is right where you want to be in downtown Detroit. Dinner on the 71st floor is a must, and after-dinner drinks in the Volt bar is the way to end a wonderful evening. Comerica Park and Ford Field are blocks away. Also within walking distance is the opera house and several night life locations. Detroit Marriott was chosen since it has access to fine resturaunts, a movie theater and right inside the once largest corporation of the world, GM. Its right on the riverwalk and with inclimate weather, there are shops and seating areas in every corner, not to mention the display of GM's best automobiles. We come here for our anniversary celebration […] and it is perfect. There is even a Godiva/ice cream shop across from Andiamo's Resturaunt. I hope to be back next year! Mehr

My husband and I splurged for our anniversary, and this location was perfect! Fantastic sunny weekend - right outside the Ren Cen and you're on a fantastic riverwalk, complete with small outdoor cafes, a carousel for kids, duck ponds, and very cheerful people!! Getting around on the People Mover was a snap from the hotel ($.50/ride), to hit the Fox […] Theater and Comerica Park with their bars, taverns, and cafes for a night out, while fast food, the Ren Cen 4, and Andiamo's in the Ren Cen was perfect for quick snacks, a movie, and a wonderfully romantic treat within the complex itself. We splurged for the breakfast buffet with our room, and it was well worth it - saved us some money while providing a lovely view of the river to wake up to. We can't wait for a repeat - we're just sorry it took us so long to discover downtown Detroit. Mehr

My stay at the hotel will always be a memorable experience! I picked this place for the views of the river and city and the room did not disappoint! 62 floor. Volt bar in the main lobby is a great place to enjoy cocktails with family & friends. The employees were friendly and helpful. The gym had great equipment that you would find in your typical sports […] club. Room service & breakfast were great, try the hasbrowns. Great location within downtown. My only negative feedback would be that the furniture in the room was outdated. It looked like something you would find at salvation army. Other than that everything else was excellent! Mehr

Loved the hotel. Staff was outstanding! Great location-used the people mover all weekend for easy access to the ball park, casinos, and other amenaties, especially Greek town. Ren. building is beautiful if a bit confusing at first. Bed very comfortable! A bit dissapointed at the bathroom--was not up to the standards we are used to with a Marriott--very […] plain, old tub and tile. Could also tell that room had not been used for a while; though clean, it was VERY dusty! I literally wrote my name on the kleenex box holder in the dust and left it there. The maid never did clean it up in the 3 days we were there. Also, when doing the room, the maid did not replace the coffee & tea service that is part of the room. We had to go looking for coffee in the morning because we had none in the room. Everything was great but the maid service leaves a LOT to be desired. I would stay there again without hesitation but I would be very sure to leave specific instruction to the maid service as to what I want done. All in all, a great stay--i just recommend the Marriott review their maid staff and do some further training. Mehr

The hotel was basically fine but the vision of the Renaissance Center as a shopping destination isn't there. Lots of vacant space gave it a slightly spooky feeling particularily coupled with the overuse of exposed concrete. The whole thing isn't quite right.

The Ren Cen is as large and confusing as I remember. Two of eight restaurants were open in the food court. I had a nice view of the river,.TV was nice and the king size bed was super comfortable.

When we were checking in they only had a King available for myself, my daughter and her friend. I reserved 2 double beds. They did give us a role in bed which took up most of the open space. It was not relaxing in the room because it was so cramped. This was not what I was paying the money for.

With such an expensive stay, you would expect not to be nickeled and dimed everywhere. It would have been nice if the person checking you in would explain how valet works, such as when you are ready for your car, call down and give them the number. I was confused about how that worked, and didn't realize I had to go to the counter downstairs, and then […] wait 10 minutes before the car was ready. Also, they could have mentioned how the elevator works, since you have to stick your room key in the slot to get it to go up to the floor you are on. There are so many floors, we were on # 60 and the elevator was confusing at first. The biggest thing is how expensive it is just to park your car..if you want to pay 10 dollars you can self park, but they said you can't have access to your vehicle to get in and out, so you are forced to pay $25 per day to have it valet parked. The other thing they nickel and dime you on is internet service. You can go to a motel 6 for christ sakes and have free wi-fi internet. You so much as use the internet, and there is 12.95 billed to your room. On top of the cost of the stay, I had about $40 billed to my room for those couple things.. you are already paying a lot for the room, so I think the hotel should be able to include these things, or at least make them cheaper! You can get one months internet for close to 12.95 these days. Mehr

Very nice hotel, accomodated us with an early 1:30pm check in time. Parking is very convienient, plan on paying for close parking. Hotel was very clean, staff helpful. If you plan on eating when you arrive be aware that hotel restraunts and room service dont open till 5pm. We ended up eating at Andiamo which seemed to be the only place open and it is […] very pricey. There is a tim hortons and a food court but we couldint find it. This was my second stay and definitely will return. Be sure to ask for a riverfront view also mini fridge is only by request. Mehr

Nice hotel once you get used to the layout (huge place where its easy to get lost). Convenient to "people mover" (public transportation) to get to major downtown venues. Food court never seems to be open and restaurants in hotel are expensive and VERY average. All things considered a nice place to stay in the heart of downtown.

WONDERFUL HOTEL WITH FRIENDLY STAFF AND LOVELY ROOM. WE HAD THE LAKE VIEW TRULY WONDERFUL. WE HAD THE BEST TIME AT THE HOTEL WOULD STAY NEXT TIME WERE IN DETOIT FOR A LIONS GAME. STAFF WAS HELPFUL AND HAD GREAT INSIGHT AS TO WHAT WE SHOULD DO WITH TIME BEFORE AND AFTER THE GAME.

My stay was good,except for 3000 young people who stayed the same week-end. I was not informed of this before I booked.

It was a great price for a great location downtown. It was close walking distance for the marathon and expo.

This hotel is nicely situated by the Detroit river in a central location downtown. The hotel is close to great restaurants in Greektown. It is just a few minutes from great clubs, casinos, bars in downtown. I would definitely come stay here again.

The hotel was excellent in every way. Clean and spacious room, nice new HDTV, excellent bathroom and cleanliness. An excellent value for the price. Service was consistently pleasant and efficient. I left 2 items behind after departing, which were recovered and mailed to my home free of charge. The Volt bar in the lobby had excellent food and drink. […] Detroit is a city of contrasts, but I thoroughly enjoyed touring the good things the city and nearby suburbs have to offer. The hotel is freeway-close. I recommend Detroit and the Marriott Hotel at the Renaissance Center. Mehr

My husband and I stayed here for the Eminem/Jay-Z concert at Comerica Park. Our stay was nice. Was a little disappointed with the parking situation. Had to park in a public parking garage that cost us $20 for 24hr parking. Was alittle upset when I discovered that I was charged a dollar for every local call made from my room. Other that those 2 complaints […] the hotel was nice and clean. Had a beautiful view from my room on the 47th floor that looked over the water and into Canada. The bar in the lobby was nice a effecient. The poeple mover that was located at the hotel was great beacuse we could leave our car and get around downtown Detroit. Mehr

We had a great time, and the was Hotel just beautiful!! We were in detroit for a Tigers game, the first ever for both my husband and son. We decided to get a room the night before to make the event even more special and memorable. The trip started on the wrong foot when I forgot my wallet and did not have my drivers license or credit card, but the woman […] at the front desk was so helpful and used my husbands information and didnt even charge us more. She totally made the trip turn around and become something of a lifetime. The room was very clean and the bed was sooo comfortable. I paid less to stay there then I have paid at most 4 star Hotels I have stayed in, and this was so much nicer. We were on the 11th floor with a wonderful view and the room service was very delicious and the gentleman was very polite. The only thing I can complain about at all, is the bathtub wasnt very deep. I gave my young son a bath and it was fairly shallow. Would be nice being the luxurary hotel it is to have deeper bath tubs. Everyone was polite and helpful and didnt seem to mind that we had a 4 year old wandering thru the hotel and Ren Center at midnight. I will surely visit again and tell others how nice it was. Anyone going to see a sporting event in Detroit or a concert at the Fox, or one of the many other venues in Detroit should really consider staying here. Mehr

I had stayed at this hotel when it was fairly new in 1985. It has gotten better and I was really pleased with the price. Most of the hotels in the area were higher and I know their quality isn't as good.

The location of this hotel was perfect for our downtown Detroit stay. We ate at the Volt and 46 Degree's restaurants/lounge and found the food and prices to be good. Liked the fact that there were 3 screens for internet access right in the lounge! The concierge were very helpful in giving us some tips on where to go outside of the hotel. This hotel […] is confusing to get in and out of as far as parking ramps etc. because of the architecture but at the same time it is what is interesting about the hotel as well. Our room was on the 54th floor with a nice view...but our walls were thin and we ended up leaving earlier than we planned because of our "noisy" neighbors on both sides. Mehr

Room was fine but not for the cost. By the time they add in taxes, the room cost double a normal hotel. I expect a large room with a jetted tub or something out of the ordinary for the cost. This was a very ordinary room at an extraordinary cost.

Not good responce and service. They charge our breakfast even I comfirmed them it is included in the plan. I can't believe it.

hotel room was nice and clean but. good location downtown on the detroit river, 70 floors. people mover takes you anywhere downtown for only 50 cents. parking is $25 a day for valet. You can park yourself for $6 but everytime you move your car you have to pay.

I expected some sort of dancing club there. No dancing kind of clubs in the area. There was no kind of club with live music to dance to at all. It would have made the weekend alot better.

Hotel just around the corner from Loe Louis Arena to watch 1st Stanely Cup game. The great bar in lobby stayed open really late. Service was helpful and friendly even at 3:00AM. A classic weekend.

The Hotel is in the beautiful GM building. The rooms have a beautiful view with the most comfortable bed;however, the service was terrible. Upon check in, no one ask did we our bags taken to our room. I thought maybe, it's just too busy. The room package I purchased came with the four movie passes. During check in, the vouchers were not handed out. […] After checking with my other guest from the room, I learned that no one had ever mention the tickets to them, so I called. I was told after I asked to pick up the tickets at 12am. When I went to take a shower, I noticed that we only had towels for two people, so I called down to the front desk to ask for additional towels at 10am. The front desk receptionist took a deep breath and ask me to call back around 10am. When I asked the front desk clerk for her name, she responded giving her name, and then wanted to send up the towels. It's not that the hotel isn't beautiful minus the fact there is no pool or hot tub, it is the bad service that made my stay unpleasant. I sent an email of what happened to the Marriott. I have not heard from anyone other than an automated email response. I do not plan to return. There are many beautiful hotels Downtown Detroit with great service; however, I just stayed at a bad one. I stayed there on 8/22 for the Kenny Chesney concert and my bday. I was really expecting this huge fancy hotel and over the top rooms...Maybe that was the problem I had a different picture. The room was very basic king bed, desk, flat screen tv. Nothing that screamed upscale! We first where put on the 9th floor and the view was a little part of the […] water and windows of other building and a hose on top of a ledge..I called the front desk and requested a higher room with a better view..the moved us to the 17th floor which was a better waterview. Overall it was a nice hotel, but don't expect anything lavish. Mehr

The only thing that I did not like about this hotel was that you are not allowed to bring in outside beer/alcohol in a cooler. We came to town for a Country Concert at Ford Field and brought a cooler that we had to take back out to the car. If you pay that much for a room and you should be able to bring a cooler in with whatever you want in it. Other […] than that, our stay was very nice. Mehr

As with all Marriott properties, the beds are dreamy! When we arrived there were about 70 people in line to check in. They had their desk fully staffed and it surprisingly went very quick. The prices of their food/drinks at the bar were ASTRONOMICAL... Extremely overpriced for the area!

Excellent view of the city and river. The area is very cultural and exciting
