The last time my husband stayed at the Mark Hopkins, he was a toddler. His mother won the desert portion of a national cooking competition and the prize was a weekend in San Francisco. Great room and Rate for value. Huge rate for parking ($53.00), soo park at lot 1/2 block north on california street for much less $$

My room was as wonderful on the day I turned 50 as it was 17 years prior when my former spouse surprised me on my birthday with my first stay at the Mark. The view was fantastic and when the staff at Top of the Mark found out it was my birthday, they sang happy birthday and brought me tea cakes. We loved the location...walking distance to Union Square, China Town and North Beach. Also, Powell Cable Car at the corner. The staff was wonderful! Top of Mark breakfast was great! Only recommendation; beds were uncomfortable, need replacing & add extra pillows. Lovely hotel!

I love the Mark Hopkins. Have been going there for years for parties, meals, and music and dancing on top of San Francisco. On New Years Eve I decided to actually stay at the hotel for the first time. Honesty I was a bit disappointed. The rooms were quite small and very plain with few modern upgrades. Just your basic small hotel room with tub shower. […] Not much different from many other. Definitely not a 5 star hotel room. Next time I would save my money (or go somewhere where you get something for it) and just go to the hotel for the restaurant at the Top of the Mark, and forgo the high expense of the room. Mehr

This Hotel is as well run as when I first visited 45 years ago. It is not an "over the top" luxury hotel, but rather a throw back to the traditional, elegant hotels of previous generations. We requested and were granted a room with a good view for New Year's fireworks. very nice. Otherwise all staff were very accommodating and responsive.

As always the Mark met and exceeded my expetations. The discreet exceptional service is outstanding. There is something magical about this place.

Bed was so comfortable! Room very clean! Front desk accommodating - gotta love 12pm check out. They offered us a late check in if we sign up for intercontinental membership..so we were there til 2pm. All Free! Parking $58 total w/tax + free in n put priv..very close to chinatown..only thing is not too many places to eat around there.

The Mark Hopkins is a fine hotel and we got an excellent rate over the Christmas holidays. My only complaint was that the computer in the lobby cost about $10 to access the internet. They should have one available free for hotel guests.

Love staying at the Mark Hopkins - especially during the Christmas season. The city is magical and the hotel location is perfect!

I have always wanted to stay at this hotel - and it lived up to my expectations ! The service and the room were perfect - definately a 5 STAR HOTEL in my book !

Great location to tram lines so you don't have to walk up the killer hills! Very close to union square and 5 min tram ride to fisherman's wharf. Great proximity to everything a tourist needs! Would recommend to anyone and stay there again. Bathroom was huge, only downside was room quite small and hotel could do with a revamp.

I just had an amazing stay at the Mark Hopkins. The hotel was great but what topped it off was the incredible view from the bar/dining area in the top floor I could see right across the bay while enjoying my (two servings) breakfast. Wonderful hotel in a great city.

The room was lovely and the view was spectacular. We will return and stay again. The only complaint is the easy access numbers on the phone did not work and the shower curtainsj did not keep the water in and ended up having to roll up towels to keep the water from spreading all over the floor in the bathroom.

The Mark Hopkins is not new and flashy, but it makes up for that with old world SF charm. The rooms are generous in size compared to what you'll find at Union Square hotels, and the beds are very comfortable. Be aware that if you end up on the California St side of the hotel, there is noise from the cable car. To me, though, that just adds to the character […] of the place. The neighborhood is top notch, but, being on the top of Nob Hill, it's not the easiest walk to anything. The views more than make up for it, especially from the Top of the Mark. Mehr

my second stay at the hotel, and as before, it was a pleasure. my room was immaculate, the service superior, and the price just right. everything about this hotel exudes class.

We found the hotel to be perfectly located for our business requirements. The rooms are big and well maintained. BUT: If you are looking for a bar on the lobby level you will be disappointed. Customers will be referred to the top floor of the hotel to a crowded bar with dance floor. Not really what you'd be looking for to peacfully unwind at the end […] of a long business day. Twice we were unable to get in - as guets of the hotel!! We had to go elsewhere. Mehr

everything was fantastic during our stay, the staff were very friendly and accomodating. the gym downstairs was in top condition, we used it every day. parking was expensive, but there is no street parking available.

So loved our short one-night stay at the Mark Hopkins! We were upgraded to a higher floor. What a view! It was very magical as it's Christmastime in the City and the feeling is just wonderful! So recommend the stay. We got a wonderful rate. Gorgeous decor, elegant yet comfortable. Staff VERY friendly. Absolutely a must for SF experience!!

only thing it lacks is a gift shop

Wish I could've slept here longer than one night. It was a real treat to stay in this fine hotel. The bedding and sheets were the finest, and the view was amazing. Excellent hotel!

Rooms were smallish, but very clean and great views. Take a corner room if available! Breakfast at the Top of the Mark has some of the best views of the city. Parking in the hotel is valet only and expensive, but we were able to find street parking on weeknights. the hotel is located a short walk or car drive away from all the major attractions in the city, and has the most awesome views of the city as well. the rooms are clean, not necessarily huge, but well appointed and very well maintained. service is prompt and will attend to your every need, quickly. one note for hotels.com, if one makes a reservation […] for a "View" room, this should be clearly specified to the hotel and in the confirmation email. the hotel was unaware that i had paid extra for a VIEW room, and they need to me made aware well in advance. We greatly enjoyed our stay at the Mark Hopkins. This iconic hotel is an architectural gem and the whole experience of being there was a great way to start our trip of California. The "Top of the Mark" on the top floor is a fabulous spot for drinks, afternoon tea or a meal. We did not mind the walk up the hill each afternoon to the hotel, which was […] conveniently situated near Union Square. We even walked back there from Fisherman's Wharf one afternoon, without feeling too tired. The hotel offers a car service for those who do not want to walk, and the cable car stop is also very handy. I stayed here during a recent convention being held at the Masonic Temple which was only 1 block away. If anything I think personally I overspent staying here. This is a top of the line hotel, with a great location, amazing rooms, and great service. I checked out a couple other hotels that other people from the convention were staying at and there […] was no comparison. This hotel has to be the nicest. The only potential downside is that there isn't a whole lot you can check out without having to walk down some crazy San Fran hills (and then back up). But you can easily catch the trolley on California St. to get back up. That said, I explored a bit around the neighbourhood that wasn't down the hill. There were some really cool restaurants nearby and lots of locals out at all hours walking their dogs and even some kids running to the local stores. So you will feel very secure here. If you don't mind some crazy hills on your walks then you can't do much better than this hotel. If you can afford it, and want your hotel choice to be worry-free. Then this is the place. Mehr

Great Location! We walked to Chinatown and ate at a concierge recommended restaurant - which we loved. The next day we walked 4 blocks to Union Sq. and took the Cable Car to the Wharf/ Ghiradelli Sq. area and back. We had great directions and all the staff was very helpful and courteous.
