Wir haben das Hotel im Februar gebucht, auf Basis der Information, dass das Hotel renoviert wird und die Renovierung bis zum Sommer abgeschlossen ist. Tatsache war, dass der gesamte Beach Wing mit dem Pool und den Restaurants am Meer noch eine volle Baustelle war. Wir waren im Ocean Wing untergebracht, hatten sehr schöne, excellent ausgestattete Zimmer […] mit wunderbarem Blick auf den Pazifik. Das Hotel war zwar sehr bemüht, die Unannehmlichkeiten durch die Baustelle durch complementary service aufzufangen (Frühstück inbegriffen, Internetzugang inbegriffen, freie Getränke am Strand), doch konnte das das fehlende Gastronomieangebot nicht wettmachen. Abendessen wurde am Gardenpool angeboten, dort standen etwa 12 Glastische, teilweise waren die Leute noch in Badekleidung im Pool oder lagen auf den Liegen, der Mai Tai wurde in Plastikbechern serviert, alle anderen Getränke auch, die Becher hat der Wind dann fortgeweht. Wir haben daher nie im Resort gegessen, obwohl pro Zimmer ein Guthaben von 150 $ für Essen und Getränke zur Verfügung stand. Uns hat sehr gefehlt, dass man sich am Nachmittag gemütlich in eine Strandbar setzen kann,mit Blick aufs Meer etwas trinken und am Abend in angemessener Atmosphäre essen kann. Die Baustellensituation hätte unserer Meinung nach viel besser aufgefangen werden können. Wir würden nie mehr ein Hotel buchen, bei dem die Renovierung zum Buchungszeitpunkt nicht abgeschlossen ist. Wir zahlen lieber mehr und haben alles, was einen Urlaub erlebenswert macht, umso mehr, wenn man eine Anreise von 20 Flugstunden hat. Nach unserer Beurteilung wird die Renovierung nicht vor September abgeschlossen sein und darauf sollte man bei der Buchung hingewiesen werden. Mehr

If you're looking for the total Island experience, book your stay at this great spot on Kuai. Great ocean, neighborhood, and a great staff. Muhala!

Smaller resort, right on the ocean. Great for couples as it's smaller and not as many kids.

The Sheraton Kauai Resort is a lovely place to stay on Kauai. It is priced similarly to many of the other hotels and is right on the beach. We stayed in a partial ocean view room and were able to see a bit of ocean. The room was clean, comfortable, and typically quiet (a renovation is almost finished and there would sometimes be hammering at 8 am). […] We heard little noise from neighboring rooms. Beach and pool towels are included as well as parking, but very little else. There is a daily resort fee on top of the room charge, which doesn't get you much, but apparently all the hotels do this. We only ate breakfast at the hotel once, and while it was a nice buffet with good selections, we found it to be very overpriced. The Poipu Shopping Village is within walking distance and has several restaurant options as well as some nice shops. There is very little else in Poipu Beach, so if you are looking for more activities within walking distance, this is not the place for you. If you plan to explore by rental car, it's a good choice. It's the leeward side of the island, so the water is calm even in winter, and we saw many whales from poolside. Would stay again. Mehr

3 star, claiming to be 4 star, charging like 5 star! Nice staff, decent room, unaccommodating management, overpriced and mediocre food.

We booked this room for our honeymoon and booked a ocean-view room. Our room had an AMAZING view of the ocean from the 4th floor. The room was great and large. The property itself was a bit on the older side. They are working to add a new restaurant and bar to the property, which were supposed to be done before we arrived but they were still being […] worked on. Parking was not the easiest but was located across the street. No dining options within walking distance, have to drive to places to eat. Good pool and right on a great beach. Mention it is your honeymoon and they will give you a free bottle of champagne! Mehr

The hotel is a little dated and currently undergoing a remodel, but the beach is very nice and the staff was very friendly. Be aware that the hotel is very large and some of the wings are very convenient to beach, some are not. Also, in typical resort fashion, expect to be nickel and dimed with resort fees, expensive buffet breakfast, etc. If you're […] wanting luxury, spend the extra $s and go to the Grand Hyatt- if you want affordable Poipu, this is a good choice. I have been to Kauai half a dozen times. The Poipu side is where you want to stay, since the weather is the most reliable. This was my first stay at the Sheraton, which has recently been renovated. Restaurants are not yet open, but the new pool has been completed. The pool is very nice, though not as large as at the Hyatt. The Hyatt is more of a resort, […] but does not have the lovely swimming beach; it has an artificial beach with pebbly sand. Compare prices; my advice is to stay at the Sheraton if it is two thirds or less of the Hyatt cost. The Sheraton property is divided by a road; make sure to book the beach side of the road, and if possible, the deluxe ocean front room in the Ocean Wing. Negatives: no screens on the lanai door; the wireless internet is so slow as to almost unusable; they cannot seem to enforce the no smoking policy on the lanai. Mehr

They just completed the main pool, but have not completed the resturants and main lobby. I would recommend the ocean view rooms, but you have to cross the street to visit the front desk and get breakfast. The "activities/time share pushers" aren't very good. The ideas they gave us were not very helpful and the "best beach in the state" according to […] the lady was definately not that. Unless you think getting changed in a dirty bathroom with drunks and drug addicts is "the best", or brown muddy water. Breakfast was free while under construction. Didn't eat on the property for breakfast and lunch - not that we were ever offerred that. Room was big and spacious and had a great view. The groundskeepers need a lesson on cutting the lawn. Our room opened on to the "lawn" and the first day it was beautiful. Then someone came in an cut the grass down to the ground, there were huge dead patches. They had "free Mai Tais" from 5-6, but there wasn't any alcohol in the drinks --- so make it "free Pinapple juice at the rinky dink old pool hour" and that would be more descriptive. Mehr

Went for a second honeymoon first time away from kids. Hotel was great even during remodel. The ocean pool was finished and perfect. Room had the best ocean view. Staff was always friendly and helpful. Would have loved to stay a few more days. Mahalo.

For me the Sheraton name is associated with a brand that is of a high class, the Sheraton in Kauai let down that brand. The decor is stuck in the 70s, that is ok as the rooms were still roomy and clean. The problem was around service and facilities. On arrival (mid afternoon) there was one person doing check in, I was 6th in line! Not a great start. Breakfast […] was in a room that made it feel like we were at school camp. Despite booking a table in the one place to eat for dinner they had no booking and told us to sit anywhere....which meant we rearranged tables and colleted chairs from other guests. Not the least bit helpful. Once seated getting served was difficult. The drinks order was not correct (although we took the extra drinks as easier than trying to order again). Waited a long time at concierge desk and in the end left and googled what I wanted to know, another service that just wasn't accessible. All up it wasn't a great ambience, the service was limited, constantly felt like they were under staffed. The hotel despite a beautiful location doesn't make the most of it. You just have to go down the road a little to the Grand Hyatt to find a hotel that makes use of its location and to us as non hotel guests made us feel welcome and looked after from the moment we stepped in the door. I wouldn't recommend this hotel and to be honest won't be considering a Sheraton again any time soon. Mehr

The staff were great, freindly and very accomodating. The room could use an upgrade as the aircondiioning didn't work well and the bed was very unconfortable. However very clean and wonderful facilities. We enjoyed our stay very much . One of the best and safest beaches to swim at!!!!

We spent just one night as part of Hawaii family vacation. There was construction going on so it was less than perfect but it did not take away from the experience. Great swimming pool. Use of hospitality room was much appreciated on day of departure. Service was outstanding. Location convenient.

The garden room was kind of dingy and smelled of mildew. We were moved to a partial ocean view and given a restaurant credit by the hotel. It was an ok hotel for the money, but not nice enough to stay there after the construction discount is lifted. The ocean rooms are probably much nicer, but they were currently surrounded by lots of construction. […] They did give us lots of freebies (weak Mai Tais, boogie boards, free breakfast), but the rooms were pretty tiny and there wasn't much to do at the hotel for adults (no hotel bar, pool full of kids). We visited a nearby hotel to check out their bar and were blown away by how nice it was. Overall decent for the money. Mehr

The hotel is currently under renovation. There is only 1 pool for all the hotel guests which does not accomodate everyone. There is currently no hot tub and the fitness room was a joke. The hotel rooms are VERY small. The food service at dinner was slow. The room rate is low, but it does not include internet service, which is an extra $10 per day. The […] only thing going for the hotel was the comfortable bed. All else was disappointing. Would not recommend this hotel. Mehr

Going in, we knew the remodel was going to have an impact. They upgraded our room without our asking, and were very helpful. Once the remodeling is done, the hotel will be much nicer. The only issue wast the breakfast buffet - low quality.

My wife and I went to this Hotel on our Honeymoon. Initially I (the groom) hesitated on staying here because it said there was construction, but since our budget was small, I went ahead and booked it. What a great choice! Honestly. It was a great stay. I never heard any construction work, the rooms were very nice, free breakfast in the mornings...I […] could go on and on about this hotel. It was well worth the money spent. The only construction was on a part of the hotel that I wouldn't have ever visted anyways. The pool by the ocean was closed, but who cares! We are in Hawaii. Swim in the ocean! =) Honestly, it was perfect. I highly recommend it! Mehr

Even though the hotel was in reinivention, the room size was extremely small, no electic outlet available at desk for computer, when people came in above at 12:30 a.m., sounded like they were coming through the roof. Room decor very cheap. Bed was fairly comfortable.

Since they were doing rennovations, I got the discounted rate for my stay. I thought it was well worth the money, aside from the pool being closed for one of the days, I didn't notice much noise where my room was located, and I thought the staff was very friendly and the room was quite comfortable.

Everyone at the hotel were exceptionally nice--from the housecleaning person, reception desk, and the restaurant where we had breakfast. The people at the reception desk knew we were there for my mothers funeral and extended their condolences which made us feel good. Even upon check out they extended their condolences. Hotel was a nice experience, and location was convenient to explore the southern part of the island. We appreciated the free self parking and dinner deals (happy hour drinks, 2 for 1 dinner nights etc). However, note that you will be charged a resort fee per day, which pays for parking etc. Rooms were nice, pool was the best feature, great location, […] palm trees, bar, and floating seats on the water! Beach was nice, but since there are currently works going on, it is not that cozy Mehr

The hotel has aged wonderfully and is presently under renovation, which is the only reason for my "4" in condition. We honeymooned in Kauai 34 years ago and the Sheraton is looking much better after that time than I do. The staff was great and the accomodations and location is perfect.

Enjoyed my stay at the Sheraton, but was quite surprised, since I had already paid for the stay at Hotels.com, by the non-optional $22/night "Resort Fee" billing by the Sheraton. Apparently, this fee must have been in their fine print since I did not know about it until the moment I was checking out.

It was awful. The general manager lied to me. Promised they wouldn't have construction during my HONEYMOON. Everything was closed- beach access was blocked off, and they still had audacity to charge full price and a $25 a night charge for "parking" - Would NEVER STAY THERE, EVER. Go w/ Marriott

Our stay was great. Not the floor I had requested (got put on 1st floor) or a room resembling anything close to the advertised pictures but clean and quiet. Great beach access, very friendly staff and good amenities. Since they had just started a construction project the day we arrived, they gave everyone a free breakfast buffet worth $24pp. So, that […] was a great benefit and we appreciated the great spread and saving $48/day on food. It was centrally located to everything on the south side of the island. I would stay there again. Mehr

The hotel overall is very nice, however, the rail on our balcony desperately needed a paint job. We noticed several rails were in the same condition, but that would not prevent us from going back.

As a regular visitor to Kauai, we spent New Years Eve at this hotel. When we booked the room we saw that there was an upcoming renovation scheduled to be starting in early January. When I saw that I expected that the property might be in need of some updating but as a Starwood Gold member that has stayed in a ton of different Sheratons I expected to […] find a clean hotels with decent service and dining. We got a room with a great view however the room was pretty dirty. The decor in the room wasn't up to par with what I would typically expect from this hotel brand. Also the tub was stained and full of hair and the carpet was sticky. When we checked out I inquired at the front desk as to which rooms they would be renovating first and was told that the rooms were just done 3 years ago and they were not renovating room, but common areas of the hotel. I have to say I was surprised as the rooms just seemed a bit tired. The pool on the property looks gorgeous, but it is horribly injurious. The sides of the pull including the steps are made from lava type of surface. My daughter and I both badly scraped our knees and feet just walking by the walls, which jut out into the pool. I also really hurt my toe on one of these large protruding grates on the bottom of the pool. The pool is basically a lawsuit waiting to happen. It is horrible. The worst of all experiences was the New Years Evening buffet which was priced just slightly under a hundred dollars. It was unbelievably poor quality. First the dining area is REALLY out of date and dirty. The buffet counters and warmers look like they were rode hard and put away wet. Food splashed all over, walls with big chips out of it and weird fans blowing over all the food areas. The buffet food was disgusting. Overdone meat, vegetables that looked like they were cooked 2 days prior, crab claws that was still partially frozen and not drained, the desert table looked like someone has smeared food everywhere. Our last minute planning led us to this hotel. We knew that Sheraton would be a good choice. The room was excellent and quiet; dining indoor and out was very good. The beach at this location is beautiful. We recommend this spot. One little nit. Depending how you book this hotel, you may or may not get an included breakfast. We weren't sure and both […] my wife and myself asked. She asked if the breakfast was complimentary, and I asked if it was included. Nonetheless we were presented with a check for $50, which the manager declined to remove. Not the end of the world - we'd go back. Mehr

The hotel location and grounds were beautiful. The rooms were a bit small for being a vacation resort, but the bed was comfortable and the room had a nice deck with a view of the ocean even thought it was listed as a partial ocean view room. The continental breakfast was great with ocean view seating. The people that work there were friendly and helpful. […] I would defiantly stay there again. Mehr

I loved everything about the Sheraton except for the dining options. The rooms are very nice, the pools are great, and of course the location on Poipu Beach couldn't be better. Also, free mai tai at sunset? Love it. As for the dining... there's a main restaurant (Shells), the more casual Point, the pool bar, and the sushi restaurant. I'm vegetarian, […] and I had a very hard time finding anything interesting to eat there. My options were a salad, veggie pasta, or a cheese pizza at the bar. (The exception was the sushi restaurant... they made me vegetable tempura that was fantastic.) The brunch buffet is really good, but fairly expensive. The hours of the restaurants aren't great, either. I wish the sushi restaurant was open more regularly, or that the pool bar didn't have such limited hours. We ended up leaving the property to eat quite a bit. Apart from that, though, we loved it! Mehr

The Sheraton Kauai was everything a relaxing Hawaiian vacation should be. The property was finely manicured, the room was spacious and comfortable, and the staff were very friendly and responsive. The beach was fairly secluded and pretty much not crowded, but still offered the most desired cabana/bar service that is required for a comforting day on […] the beach. The south shore was less pretentious and the waves were more condusive to swimming or floating. The two issues we had with this property were a slow check-in (as the room was not ready) and the food was a little expensive for the quality. Still, it is a resort and there were other food options around the hotel if you wanted to drive a few miles. Mehr

We stayed at Sheraton Kauai on Poipu beach in July. The hotel lobby, restaurant, and beach location is great. I was disappointed at the size of the rooms...these were the smallest rooms I have ever stayed at on vacation! We had a partial Ocean view which was okay. I would go with the Full Ocean view in future. My husband thought the entire property […] looked like condos that were converted to a hotel. I loved the variety of vendors who sat everyday selling local artist wares. The variety of hula dancing and lei making classes were charming! The restaurant view was fantastic with open patios and breakfast was very nice. All in all, we were satisfied with our vacation. Mehr

We have stayed at this Sheraton twice before, the last time about 5 years ago. We noticed some changes, such as the mai tai reception and entertainment now only takes place 3 or 4 times a week instead of every night, and the torch lighting ceremony is not nearly as impressive as it used to be. The breakfast provided is very good but not as varied as […] before all that said, we had a most enjoyable week in an oceanfront room and the comfort of the beds was as wonderful as ever. We found the staff to be very pleasant and helpful, and facilities just as expected, there are good activities for children and we enjoyed a very interesting talk on local wildlife. Excellent restaurants within walking distance and small shopping centres. We would certainly stay there again Mehr

We were thrilled with our stay at this hotel. We arrived early, hoping to check-in early but planning to leave our bags. The front desk staff upgraded our room from a "partial" ocean view to a "full" ocean view for a minimal cost to us. Then for no cost they upgraded our room to a luxury room from a standard room. We have two balconies with views of […] the ocean from both and the pool areas from the other. The beach front and pools were clean and well-kept. We spent most of our time at our hotel, enjoying the amenities. We loved the sunset views from the hotel bar, and their local entertainers. They could add an extra hot tub. the one hot tub was always crowded. Mehr
